    The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC.
    Mitch might be the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 and Mitch was born in July 1992. He can also grow the Freddie mustache. It is so close to matching it is kinda creepy.

      However, if you've ever seen Mitch's dad, Mike Grassi, you know Mitch's occasional stache isn't necessarily inspired by Freddie.

      I have heard it took them that long as to pay respect and tribute to Queen. It had to be right. It had to be perfect! (Which it is!) They included the “starry night” shot to pay tribute to Brian May who is also a astrophysicist. The scene laying on the couch pays tribute to album cover. They put so much thought, time and effort into this cover! Brian May ever linked it on one of his socials. Mitch does the electric guitar with only his voice. The mega phone was just a prop for visual! You can find them preforming this live and see he is not using one! This is AMAZING! Freddie Mercury would e proud! ❤️

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, it took them five years to decide they were ready to attempt this, after which they began the actual work on it. They love Queen and they love _Bohemian Rhapsody,_ so it was important to them that they get this extremely difficult song *right.* My personal guess (and I emphasize that it's *only* a guess) is that the final piece fell in place when Mitch figured out how to turn into an electric guitar. The piano part doesn't have to sound like an actual piano; it just needs to include the music the piano was playing, but the guitar solos are iconic. They couldn't be omitted, and they had to sound like an actual guitar.
      Be aware that this was as much a tribute to Queen as it was a cover of _Bohemian Rhapsody._ It's a work of love, which is the best kind of work.

    You mentioned several instruments that they imitated during this song - bass, drums, guitar. They also did bell tones towards the beginning of the song (starting about 1:37) while Mitch was singing the solo to imitate the piano that Freddy played in the original.

    Loved your reaction, great song choice! It was fun to see the expressions on your face as the song progressed and we watched you watching/hearing them! One early video they did that often gets overlooked was a collaboration with Todrick Hall called "The Wizard of Ahhhs." I mention this not because I think it's their best but because I think it's so fun and entertaining. It reminds me a little of a broadway show where they incorporated more modern music into an old classic movie and took us along for the ride.

    If you're interested in acapella, there's a guy here on TH-cam called Smooth McGroove. His stuff is specifically game music. He's doing it all on his own, so you'll see a bunch of different versions of him doing each part individually so he can later add it all together and create an awesome whole. Honestly, if it doesn't sound like something you'd want to react to, I'd still just suggest checking out a few of his videos for your own enjoyment. If you are any kind of a gamer, especially retro, you'll be blown away.
    As for pentatonix, they're great and you really can't go wrong with anything they do.

    There's a Behind the Scenes video about the filming of this; you can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/Q8ugJnIG_Lk/w-d-xo.html They did it all in one night, on a road (you can see the white lines down the middle of the road as the sofa moves). Throughout the video there's a countdown-to-sunrise timer on the screen, and they nearly didn't make it - it was morning twilight by the time they shot the final scenes. You can see trees starting to become visible in the background. It didn't help that adding a motor and wheels to the sofa made it less stable, so that it kept trying to tip over when they were climbing on and off and jumping around on it.
    The best live version of this that I know of can be found here: th-cam.com/video/C1PelJIxHTQ/w-d-xo.html

  • @Gwennedd
    @Gwennedd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes, PTX is very intelligent with their choices of which vocalist does what part. They've been that way since the start, even in the Sing Offs which formed the group ( and they won). Some suggestions for your selection:
    New covers: When The Party's Over ( Billie Eilish cover), Perfect ( Ed Sheeran cover), Dreams ( The Cranberries cover), Prayin' ( Keesha cover).
    New Originals: Be My Eyes , Happy Now, Love Me When I Don't, The Lucky Ones, Anchor , Petals, It's Different Now, Never Gonna Cry Again ( not all of these have music videos...some have either lyric videos or visualizer videos),
    Older songs: Attention, Favourite Things, Mad World, Come Along, Havana, Royals, La La Latch, Say Something.

  • @terriepurkey708
    @terriepurkey708 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I do enjoy your reactions. I think many of the other comments are correct - this isn't the same as Queen - they're QUEEN after all and it's more hard rock-y sounding. BUT, damn this version is SO good and they are so talented to be as faithful as possible, honoring the original, and yet still have it be PTX. They're genius at that. One thing I didn't see mentioned is the couch. The couch in this video harkens back to their early days when most of their videos were done on a couch, sitting in that same arrangement - the trio on the back and Kevin & Avi in front. Low budget all the way, and yet great music. In some of their recent concerts I've seen them bring a couch on stage and do a series of old songs, recognizing the importance of the couch in their history. Keep an eye out for that as you watch older videos. There's also a "making of" or maybe it's "behind the scenes" of Bohemian Rhapsody - you should watch that just for the fun of it and to see the process.....how they fell off the couch, etc. Really fun.

    Great and thoughtful reaction Sean. Thanks! I think this is one of the best a cappella arrangements ever made. I always thought they should have won a Grammy for this one. As a rapper I'd like to hear your views on some of the songs they rap in. They can all rap, but Mitch and Scott are particularly good. Try Problem, the Ariana Grande/Iggy Azalea cover. Mitch and Scott (the counter tenor and the blonde baritone!) have their own separate channel called Superfruit. I think you would love their version of 'Feeling myself' - Nicki Minaj and Beyonce - and their 'Hip-hop goes Broadway 1 and 2' which are hilarious! They turn big Hip hop tracks into musical theatre songs. Watch out for the bloopers at the end after the subscribe screen!

    An incredible rendition. To me the most sublime example of their talent is the final resolve at the end of the song. They land on the penultimate chord cleanly, then in very quick succession the chord resolves. Kirsten and Scott first, Avi second. Just immediately after you hear Mitch tune the new chord by raising his note by a very precise 1/64th of a tone

    I sure you know by now that the megaphone was. Prop sitting on the set somewhere and get picked it up and was playing with it. He does the guitar without the megaphone.
    Think you’ll find that they always put their PTX spin on everything they cover. Queens version was sooo intense with pain in the story he told. Mitch has been there survived that. Freddie was in an era supposedly of love all but it’s taken til now for his dream to just BE you can really have a chance of happening. I heard the astronaut into the stars is a nod to a Queen member who back to school to study astrology. Thus think of all those little things. Then makes us (no one forcing us, but can it they want, dishes will wait) to watch over and over to catch all the nods that think seem to see and arrange before they even get their first coffee.
    I love them crazy bad. Was thinking about trying to get a tix for the Nov in Lexington Ky but funds are about to disown me. They’ve already been told they have to leave. Can’t keep all the freeloaders out on their own cause this momma can’t afford no bug man to come evict them.
    My dream one day to see them in concert. music and economics were my two fav classes. Well along with writing. Times gone long far behind now but nice to at least reminisce. I can’t listen to anything PTX and not get stopped at some point for a comment, tear, share, be in awe and try to refocus before daylight rises. Love you ALL with PTX and the people who keep them sane with a slash of crazy so they can do their best which is out of this world.
    Ya know, next spaceship we send to lock on, hit, land or roll the windows down asking for grey pupon mustards, we need to be sure that PTX is what is blasting out into deep space. Don’t think any planet can top them but hey. Music and love are supposed to be the languages of love. Blind date from the Milky Way may be a bit much but tones can get us all up dancing. IMO

    Honestly I love Queen. Freddy Mercury was a musical genius and all of Queen's songs are great. But Pentatonix somehow managed to pay homage to Queen, and Freddy, while also surpassing the original song using zero instruments.

    Members of Queen actually congratulated PTX on this performance. I never tire of hearing this song. NO PTX performance is a loser.
