The easiest way is to just entrap a couple of troopers with a weak ruse, blast them without leaving blaster marks somehow, take their armor, and hope you're not too short to fit it.
+The Exo Watch the film again. You can distinctly hear two blasts when the troopers are ambushed, and then the sound of bodies collapsing. No sound of a melee at all.
+NYG5 Stun would work. Of course that's not what Han and Luke used, as you can tell by comparing the sound of the blasters to the stun setting used on Leia, but it would work.
+Savant I think the blaster sound effect not changing is just an oversight, otherwise where would they have shot the stormtroopers with lethal shots where it wouldn't leave a glaring hole in their white armor?
I always liked the episode 3 clone armor the best, they had personality, and had a lot of wear and tear that made them look like real battle armor. That's just my opinion but I always thought the clone trooper designs were some of the better things about the prequels
Lol, considering not one single Original Trilogy movie had a unclean armor...ROTJ, the endor scouts/stormys had dirt wear on the armor. ANH, sandtroopers and stormtroopers both had wear and damage... ESB, most stormys had wear on the armor
retrowoody70 I know it was Made from Khaki green HDPE...technically it is wear because the paint started to come off...and the endor scene showed the tanning of the armor (Which is considered wear/weathering) as sandtroopers are also shown to have a thick motor oil dirt/sand combo as a effort to make weathering. Most scout troopers have airburshed black spots on them, which is also considered wear
retrowoody70 Wear is mainly used i terms of when a object starts to degrade..in this case, because the armor's paint chipped off, it had 'wear'..just saying..what type of ANH armors you got though?
Excellent overview and a great introduction for newbies looking to get into our obsession! I myself have CAP and a Scootch bucket -- I also ordered my Anovos kit when they started taking pre-orders back in April or May. Thanks again for posting the overview and keep up the good work!
Verry nice introduction and so true I saw it before my own armor And it stil holds up I have an anovos TK and waited half a year before building just because i did not have the courage to start but then i called out and got help from a 501st member in my area. Been troopin for 2 years now
The ATR armour is made and dispatched from a shop in England just down the road from me. I often go in and see them moulding it and boxing it. The guys thee are so cool.
I'm gonna be about 6'8 when I'm done growing and I think it would be really cool to have an authentic Chewbacca costume. The problem is they look so hard to make and the retail ones look like a joke.
No one can calculate how tall you can be after growing. Some tall people stopped growing around 13...some short people keep growing until 18...it varies...the average age to stop growing is usually 16. But considering what you said, i'll doubt you'll grow..It's a common thing that really tall people stop growing around 14
I love your videos HelloGreedo I have been a subscriber for a while now but not on this account. I am always exited whenever you upload, you make quality videos. You are awesome. :)
+HelloGreedo I'll hit them up again in a few days. Apparently they ahve been down for awhile, even before this video went up so your mass of fans didn't cause the site to crash.
+HelloGreedo I got my armor from originalstormtrooper.com/. It is made by the original creator of the stormtrooper armor in 1977. He hand crafts it, and signs every piece. 100% screen accurate and even uses the original molds.
What you are saying is not entirely accurate. thewhitearmor.net community almost overwhelmingly disapproves of those kits and even has an entire thread dedicated to why you should not purchase one from there. Andrew Ainsworth makes a number of claims about his armor that are flat out wrong. Including about him being the original creator.
hellogreedo I just got a RS Prop Master armor (being bult) It is casted from the moldings from the ESB (empire strikes back) and well they can buld it for you with every thing you need you give them your measurements (arms, legs, est) but I have to say I would love to buld one one day but I hope i will remember to give you a feed back when i get it and witch it will take 6 to 8 weeks .
i would love to modify this armor into a sandtrooper outfit, sand troopers are my favorite troopers they just look so cool with their back packs and shoulderpads, also i love the dirty look of sandtroopers
The more I watch 501st Legion videos, the more I look around for blaster builds or armor assembly, the more I want to try it. What did the Doctor say? "Every time I think it can't get more extraordinary it surprises me. It's impossible. I hate it. It's evil, it's astonishing. I want to kiss it to death." Okay, so that's going a bit extreme, but the more I see the members doing their thing and showing kit builds and all that, the more I want to try it. That, and it's a stormtrooper costume. Would be pretty cool to build and own. As terrifying as it is, I want to try it... when I have the money.
oh, I was hoping this was going to be about the in-movie Stormtrooper kit. Composition, capabilities, helmet functions and design features like which culture it was based on and why it's even used when it is obviously hard to see out of. Oh well.
Thank you so much for making this vid I met some garrison excelsior members at my last comic con and they gave my helmet some compliments and gave me a card to their website but i didn't really know what to do. Now I do! Thanks Greedo (:
I've always wanted to get together a Scout Trooper armor set, and to me it seems like the easiest armor to put together, and the most comfortable armor set to wear. I might look into getting an ATA Scout Trooper armor set, if available, but in terms of time, I have no idea when I'll be financially able and experienced to purchase it all and put it together.
This doesn't really have anything to do with the video, but I was wondering if you liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Star Wars and LotR are similar (being fantasy epics, trilogies, etc), so I was wondering if you liked it. Personally I love it just as much as Star Wars.
Rubies armor is available now for just over $600. with good tools, skills and patience, you can make it look just fine for way cheaper than $1200. The only people who notice the inaccuracies are like armor experts, which outside of the 501st, are very hard to find. The picture shown was on a mannequin. I promise it looks better on a person lol. EDIT: The rubies helmet is jank though. Scrap that and get another.
For making Rubies 501st approved: -replace undersuit with skin tight undersuit -replace helmet with almost any other stormtrooper helmet. -modify shoulder bells with rotary tool, as they are too thick. -if Chest plate and ab plate have a gap, either replace the chest and ab plate (recommended) or saw ab plate in half at the belt line, replace with a wider belt and reattach. -custom heat fit and trim every piece -cover buttons on chest plate to back plate connectors. (Or use a pauldron.) -get proper boots and neck seal -E-11 holster (optional) -ensure paint is matching colors. Am I missing anything?
Or, you could just get a screen accurate kit for around the same price (if you're going off of the $600 you're quoting) and not do all the mods to make a Rubies kit look normal.
Re-watched this 4 years later... This is what pointed me in the direction of the 501st and man, when he thossed out the 7,000 member line... It's just crazy we are almost at 20,000 🤯
+kilroyjenkins1 Yeah. You can't sit. Some people have cut their ab plate in half to make sitting easier...but I wouldn't recommend it. There's really no reason to sit down when you're wearing it.
As a fellow member of the 501st I can say to all who are uneasy about buying whitearmor, white armors where I got my set aswell. (Still being built) sincerly DZ-20200 of the imperial sands garrison
I wish there was finally some place/site where you could write your measurements and they would send you finished kit on your size. I would happily pay extra for that. One day I hope ….
Hey HelloGreedo I'm curious where you go to purchase Armor Kits I completely lack the skill required to build any of that on my own. Also I want to thank you personally, you and Sam Witwer completely re ignited the fire in me and strengthened my resolve to join the 501st. by any means necessary.
Just bought the shirt you're wearing in this video. Super stoked! I have a quick question: I want to get on the ATA waiting list, but I don't have the $500 or so dollars yet, but will have that money in a few months. I saw the waiting list is still about 6 months. Do they charge you the fee when you first get on the list, or at the end?
Someone should start a Buy One - Give One charity option with their Stormtrooper armor. That way all the kids in Ethiopia can get their 'empire on' on days off.
I ordered the completed ensemble from Anovos. After VERY long delays, it was finally delivered just a few days ago. To be brief, the armor itself is very nice, but the completed ensemble was a disaster, suffering from MAJOR quality control issues. There were pieces that were trimmed and assembled badly, scratches on the faceplate of the helmet and badly finished painting, some pieces arrived cracked - and NONE of the problems were obviously the result of shipping. Everything I saw obviously went into the box that way. I took pictures of everything, contacted their customer support, and based on the large number of issues with my order, they agreed to a refund. VERY disappointed. I do not recommend the completed ensemble. As I said, the armor itself is very nice - buy the kit, and if you are too lazy or feel too unskilled to make it yourself, hire someone to do it for you.
I ordered mine from Shepperton studios were the original armour was made and its on amazon it cost me £400 free postage with next day delivery. anovos is just to expensive and to long a wait.
+retrowoody70 Actually, Rubies is producing that armor too...just saying..i wouldn't recommend it though. One thing i hate about ANOVOS is that they don't ship to other countries, but promise they will in the future...yet Have tier 1 pricing exclusive to those regions..like they can't give countries newly added a chance at tier-1 pricing? thats fucked up.
Hey Greedo, where'd you get your doopydoo's kit? I'm in the process of doing an E-11 PVC build, but I'm sort of realizing how difficult some parts (namely the grip, optic, and magazine) are going to be for me to make from scratch, especially with the limited tools at my disposal (cheapo rotary tool that torque stalls in SCH40 PVC, woop woop!). So it'd be really nice if I could pick up resin casts of the parts i'm not confident in my own ability to make. I don't expect it to be screen accurate or anything, but I'd like it to at least approximate the on screen guns, and I haven't been able to track down a kit yet. Thanks, if you take the time to reply. If not, it's whatevs- keep on keeping on man.
It totally is! I've been wanting to join the 501st for years and wasn't in a financially stable situation to do so but joined the forums to get info and found out that when wired al tours he gets the local 501st to come to his concerts and do stuff.
Cool channel. Got a recommendation from TH-cam given my current research (built on long outstanding plans), to do a middle-of-the-road Vader outfit, primarily built around a Black Series helmet. Not 501st level quality, but waaay better than Halloween quality costumes, and better than the cosplay crap on eBay/AliExpress. This seems to be a very underserved area of the market. Not the thousands of dollars at the high end, and not the hundreds of dollars at the bottom end, but something in the middle.
What if I wanted to get a set of mandalorian armor, like Jango or Boba Fett? I heard a long while back that the 501st doesn't allow custom mandalorian armor, that it has to match either Fett armor. Which to me, is weird as far as I know, Mando culture allows for the customization of the armor. If anyone knows of a link to a good forum for the Fett armor, please let me know.
Why is is so convoluted and hard to get an already put together screen accurate armor? I understand the fun in putting stuff together but why can’t anyone have their armor already built before arrival
Hey HelloGreedo, I actually just got my ATA kit in the other day and I have no idea where to start, especially with trimming. Maybe you could point me in the right direction, I've looked on FISD and I couldn't find much about actually trimming an ATA kit, unless it's not to specific to ATA armor.
Hey my kit I ordered is coming soon on oct 16 it’s oct 10, got any advice on how to put it together because there is a comicon event in my area soon so I’d like it together before so I can wear it there. Again if any advice on putting it together please let me know
Interesting, I'd like to make a imperial officer uniform someday, or a rebel fleet tooper uniform. Rebel uniforms are easy to make and the helmet/blaster are the only hard things to make.
Can you do a video on Mandolorian armor? I know my aunt made some from scratch without any websites or whatever, but I wanna see if there's any other way to make it
+HelloGreedo TBHWU, HG, I'd prefer screen accurate TFA Stormtrooper armor. BTW, one thing in the next Rebels episode is going to be confirmed: clones are not Stormtroopers.
I have the uniform, but I lack a Helmet. Wondering what middle of the road helmet is good. The black series one is to small. Any ideas. I am also making a HAN SOLO fan film.
Will the ATA Armor work if I want to do the ESB Version? I know the ANH version will work because that's what you did, but do you know if you this kit will work for the ESB version?
Thanks very much, HelloGreedo! This was very helpful.
+Chris Stuckmann Glad to hear that, man! If you have any questions feel free to shoot them my way. Good luck!
Aaah my favorite TH-cam movie reviewer! Dude you need to make a video of yourself in that armor once it's done!
+HelloGreedo Excuse me, but is the armour comfortable?
+Chris Stuckmann Man, what a small world! Seeing you here is like seeing a celebrity on the street or something.
Wow! Chris stuckmann writing a comment. You will not see that on any of his videos, folks
The easiest way is to just entrap a couple of troopers with a weak ruse, blast them without leaving blaster marks somehow, take their armor, and hope you're not too short to fit it.
They didn't blast them they beat them over the head, knocking them out
+The Exo Watch the film again. You can distinctly hear two blasts when the troopers are ambushed, and then the sound of bodies collapsing. No sound of a melee at all.
+Savant set for stun
+NYG5 Stun would work. Of course that's not what Han and Luke used, as you can tell by comparing the sound of the blasters to the stun setting used on Leia, but it would work.
+Savant I think the blaster sound effect not changing is just an oversight, otherwise where would they have shot the stormtroopers with lethal shots where it wouldn't leave a glaring hole in their white armor?
HelloGreedo, you have a listenable voice. You ought to be a professional voice-actor.
gcHK47 he really should
gcHK47 agreed, maybe like the death stick scene, with him as whoever's talking to the main character.
Audiobooks perhaps
I always liked the episode 3 clone armor the best, they had personality, and had a lot of wear and tear that made them look like real battle armor. That's just my opinion but I always thought the clone trooper designs were some of the better things about the prequels

Excellent overview and a great introduction for newbies looking to get into our obsession! I myself have CAP and a Scootch bucket -- I also ordered my Anovos kit when they started taking pre-orders back in April or May. Thanks again for posting the overview and keep up the good work!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Already half way through the wait for ANH hero stormtrooper armor
I'd be fine with just the helmet.
+FillmFilms You can buy an ATA helmet on it's own I believe. Not sure what it costs. You'd still have to assemble it though.
+Alex Feehan I have a TIE pilot helmet. I've used it in a few videos. If I build another costume, I'm going to do a biker scout.
HelloGreedo Oh cool. Thanks.
+HelloGreedo Could we have a link to ATA Works? cant find them on google :P
+HelloGreedo I love your videos! I was wondering if you know where I can buy a ok looking Stormtrooper helmet that isn't months away of waiting?
This helps a lot. I was thinking of joining the 501st around when I turn 18 and now I know where to look to get started
Verry nice introduction and so true
I saw it before my own armor
And it stil holds up
I have an anovos TK and waited half a year before building just because i did not have the courage to start but then i called out and got help from a 501st member in my area.
Been troopin for 2 years now
About time you made this video! It would be cool if you got a new set and did videos where you walk us through the assembly step by step.
+Darth Armis As long as its not clone trooper armor but knowing Greedo that wont be a problem.
Yeah, like the force awakens set
Best video ever on Stormtroopers armor. Best information as well! Thanks Hello Greedo!
The ATR armour is made and dispatched from a shop in England just down the road from me. I often go in and see them moulding it and boxing it. The guys thee are so cool.
YES! I have been waiting for this video since I subscribed about a year ago! Thank you!
WhiteArmor - "This webpage is not available" hmmmm
One the the most AWESOME VIDEOS EVER!
Dude, that Weird Al autograph is so awesome, must've been a joy to meet him in real life!
I'm gonna be about 6'8 when I'm done growing and I think it would be really cool to have an authentic Chewbacca costume. The problem is they look so hard to make and the retail ones look like a joke.
*****
Ya I'm sure it's really hard to get it screen accurate.
*****
I thought of that too. It's probably a lot easier to get that costume screen accurate.
Also there's less plates for a vader set and the helmets are cheaper. Also it's less noticeable if ur armour isn't perfect
No one can calculate how tall you can be after growing. Some people grow 3 inches a year...then sometimes don't even grow at all. then start up again with 1 inch per year...it varies a lot.
I love your videos HelloGreedo I have been a subscriber for a while now but not on this account. I am always exited whenever you upload, you make quality videos. You are awesome. :)
+L Talor Thanks for the, man! I really appreciate it :)
Great as always! Just the video I needed!
This video was the bomb. Thanks HG.
That's really cool of u to help get others going so they to can have armor just like u
This was so helpful greedo thank you
*sigh* Did you crash White armor?

gcHK47 i think about it too
Where can I get the scout trooper armor?
Aces Low bukerscout.net I just created an account apparently that were to look for scout trooper stuffs or people say were u can buy costumes
Good stuff Greedo!!
If it's made of ABS, just get lots of white LEGOs, a blowtorch, and a mould.
I like the gino hero helmet with the bubble lenses and ap armor
Thanks I always like your videos
Those stormtrooper boots are stunning...
+Liam Hubbard TK Boots. Not sure if they're still around or not.
Ahh yes. I thought not. But still cool! Wonderful set! Im starting one of my own and you have certainly given some great insight!

Rubies armor is available now for just over $600. with good tools, skills and patience, you can make it look just fine for way cheaper than $1200. five days ago I bought rubies armor for 80$. with sum simple tweks at the cost of less then fifty bucks its gunna look realistic asf
For making Rubies 501st approved:
-replace undersuit with skin tight undersuit
-replace helmet with almost any other stormtrooper helmet.
-modify shoulder bells with rotary tool, as they are too thick.
-if Chest plate and ab plate have a gap, either replace the chest and ab plate (recommended) or saw ab plate in half at the belt line, replace with a wider belt and reattach.

-E-11 holster (optional)
-ensure paint is matching colors.

I wonder if a molle rig could work. Like attaching pals thread to the armor and threading it through a jpc.

+Amy thank you, I'll look for the mercs, I always believed the armor should be custom for the wearer, as all the mandos' armor was.
nice one greedo!
Why is is so convoluted and hard to get an already put together screen accurate armor?
I understand the fun in putting stuff together but why can’t anyone have their armor already built before arrival
Because hard armor is not "1-size fits all". You need to build it to fit your body type.
Holy shit... weird al signed your helmet, that’s awesome.
Hey HelloGreedo, what is the name of the padding you put inside your helmet, i'd die to find out what to put in mine to get it to fit!
Watching this as a student is really disappointing
What about RS Props?
Greedo i love you n your videos
Im guessing there wont be an armor kit for that new metallic storm trooper in episode 7 for quite awhile
I've always wanted the AT AT driver armour or snowtrooper. What other armour/costume are you guys wanting/thinking of having?
and i thought my captain rex Halloween costume was the coolest thing ever
Hey HelloGreedo, I actually just got my ATA kit in the other day and I have no idea where to start, especially with trimming. Maybe you could point me in the right direction, I've looked on FISD and I couldn't find much about actually trimming an ATA kit, unless it's not to specific to ATA armor.
too bad you cant were it to a movie premire anymore
Arkham Verse Batman, Yeah, bloody terrorists and trigger happy cops.
ya more like crazy collage kids
Arkham Verse Batman, And them, their are quite rare in Britain.
you live in britian
Arkham Verse Batman, Yes I do I'm a limey.
I don't think I'll be buying armor or anything, but dude, nice kitchen!
How's the mobility in that stuff? Do the shoulder cops block you from raising your arms?
How about the Anovos armor kit? I'm looking for the first order stormtrooper kit
So what website do you go to to get the armor kit? Where do you buy it?
So are you in the 501st Legion? And if so, are you an active member? Great videos, by the way. :)
What website did you buy the e-11 blaster from?
Can you do a video on Mandolorian armor? I know my aunt made some from scratch without any websites or whatever, but I wanna see if there's any other way to make it
Hey Greedo, Can you make more videos like this? I've been personally been trying to find a high quality Wookiee costumes.
Would you ever build a Clonetrooper and or Shadowtrooper set
+HelloGreedo TBHWU, HG, I'd prefer screen accurate TFA Stormtrooper armor. BTW, one thing in the next Rebels episode is going to be confirmed: clones are not Stormtroopers.
What do you think about new stormtrooper design in tFA?
Any thoughts on Anovos storm trooper armor? Thanks
I have the uniform, but I lack a Helmet. Wondering what middle of the road helmet is good. The black series one is to small. Any ideas. I am also making a HAN SOLO fan film.
Say I wanted to make a scout trooper helmet by the premiere of TFA, got any tips to do this that quickly?
This IS the armor your looking for
Will the ATA Armor work if I want to do the ESB Version? I know the ANH version will work because that's what you did, but do you know if you this kit will work for the ESB version?
There's one thing I'm still confused with, Is your Helmet from the Kit? Or is it the same one you reviewed in the past?
hellogreedo, i have a question, I was just looking for a storm trooper helmet and came across anovos, would you recommend?
I don't have a local garrison, and if I do it Probaby is out of state. Is there any fully completed armor sets that I don't need to assemble?
