Yeeeeees 😁 I mean, the Wraith stuff is just killer, precisely because it's otherworldly, spectral, ectoplasmic, but at the same time he's a fantastic fit for Tzimisce art as well, given the ton of modifications you can make with Vicissitude. The more elongated figures with oversized heads and fangs, even the more naive looking shapes of some Fiends/fleshcraft creations just feel like... doodles of someone who has been deeply traumatized by an encounter with such entities. And lastly, - I see this one isn't attributed to him on the wiki, which is quite sad - his works for Demon: the Fallen's Days of Fire is just amazing. His drawing of "The Great King of Blood" or "The Five who turn in their graves" are just... 😳 So you can tell they're good because they're still burnt into my memory 🥰
You probably mention this later in the series but I'm pretty sure there's an actual eastern European festival in honor of the pseudo-deity kupalo/kupala that involves the search for a special fern that supposedly grows only that one night or something and produces a special flower that I've seen some sources refer to as a fire flower.
Hmmm, I might have forgotten to return to this question 🤔 Yup, I think I forgot 😅 It's actually better in a way, since the answer wasn't really detailed by the WoD books themselves, but I found it by doing some online research. Still, can't believe I forgot to mention this 😆
@theoldcountry I think it comes up as sort of a passing mention in the next video in the series where you briefly mention there's a real world Kupala's night but you're only interested in the game's lore. You also briefly mention the Solomonari in your Koldunism video but I don't think you linger too long on the idea that they're taught by the devil at Scholomance.
The lack of mention in Werewolf is interesting, but if Kupala was earthbound, it's possibly one of the "oldest" ones, summoned by mortals before the deluge. If the local Garou bound Kupala back then, then the modern shadow lords may have actually no idea. I, in particular, tend to imagine the "Deluge" as the Interregnum, where the Lupines (and other Fera) ended the ante-diluvian world, more or less destroying any remaining knowledge of what the Fallen had taught mortals beforehand. The modern Garou would have almost no recollection of anything that far back. Then again, neither would the Tzimisce, I think, unless the Eldest said something to Yorak, or something, or said something off hand to one of his childer, and the rest of the clan has just repeated it since? In any case, if they did seal it, it does very much remind me of how the W20 corebook describes the Uktena as having bound several old, (allegedly) otherwise unkillable enemies somewhere in their territory, and the others accuse them of keeping them around, only so they might use them somehow.
@@theoldcountry Well, thank you for the fantastic videos. I'm working on a project for Vampire, so I've been watching several of the videos, and they are glorious. They've been genuinely wonderful, and I plan to finish all of them when I can.
That is very true, but you never really know who/what that entity is within the context of the game world/lore. Is Kupala a powerful Tzimisce elder? Is it a spirit? Is it a mage? Is it a god? Turns out it's a demon/spirit. So that's why I was confused at the fact that the first mention is only the name and no description of what it actually is
i learned something today. leave it to white wolf to just take any myth, tradition, religious figure that feels exotic to an american audience and straight up declaring it a demon :D i really do enjoy all the tie ins to real life though-
Love the shout out for John Cobb. His stuff is often my favorite in whatever setting he appears in.

yo, a kupala lore series? nice!
Oh, you know, doing my best to spread the corrupti... I mean, point out little pieces of lore I find interesting and not talked about too often 😅

Seems like they simply combined the Kupala mythology with the idea of the devil teaching solomonari/strigoi at the Scholomance.

Oh wow! Thank you for that 🥰 Fantastic answer!

Fun fact Kupala is an actual pagan (slavic) fertility God, so that might exlaine why yhe book assumes you know what a kupala is
