Considering the Torino is several hundred pounds heavier and stock compared to a built Camaro it made a good run ! Would rather have the Torino any day!!

Agree! It was just for fun. The Camaro was a purpose built drag car with quite a laundry list of modifications compared for a 2v 351 bone stock Gran Torino.

Had a guy call me out for a race back in the day. He had a spanking new 78 Z28 , i had my old 71 Charger RT 440 Magnum. This guy had ridden in my car before and i dont know what the hell he was thinking. His camaro beat me off the line and he was ahead for about 75 yards. When i got good traction and hit 2nd gear , the race was over. I had to oull over and wait for him so i could laugh at him.

We loved our 72 Torino! Bought it in California in 1983, it had a functioning ram air kit on it. An old gear head at that time, hooked up a bypass to it. So when you stopped at a red light smoke would come out the hood scoop like a dragon !! lol Flick of a switch and boom you had smoke 💨 Worked better with certain weather conditions. It was gold with a black vinyl top, had a 351 Cleveland, dual exhaust, headers, total sleeper. Kids used to look in awe at this so called family car that looked awesome. One of the best grills and front ends ever, top 10 list for sure. Sure miss those days, right ?

@@sergeantmasson3669 most definitely! I found out after the fun race that the ‘72 sadly was missing on a cylinder and had a major fuel leak. Quite a lot has changed since this video…I’ll need to do an updated run for sure. This most definitely isn’t a drag car though. I’m actually quite gentle on the car to ensure nothing is damaged, so I didn’t get the full run it “should” have gotten.

@ dys tracked - not sure what you mean exactly? The Camaro was heavily modified and the Gran Torino was stock. The Camaro won by barely a half-car length. It's my brother's car and it was just for fun. Plus, the last time checked the weight Gran Torino of this model and style was only 3747 and the Camaro is 3456. Less than 300lbs... Not sure how many Torinos you've rode in but it's really not that big of a car. If anything it's the same size as the Camaro tip to tip.

you are on crack, a gran torino is much bigger and heavier then a camaro. the torino if it has a 351c and a auto trans is probably 3900-4000 lbs. The frame on those cars is a BEAST in and of itself. the 3747 you quote was probably a 6 cylinder or 302 base model car. There is easily a 100-150 lbs of sound deadner on the fastbacks, add a heavier 351c, c6 trans 9" rear, ac, pwr steerin, pwr brakes like the majority of them were equipped and its right around 4000 lbs. That camaro has probably bene stripped of a lot fo stuff like most camaros of that vintage were and he barely bit the torino, sad performance for the bowtie. Thats usually the case against a ford though with a 351c.

@@ChrisBrown-pz2gu nope, just replyin to the bozo above with some common sense. any of them can be fast if you dump enough money in them but if you want to talk factory parts like heads, the cleveland stomps anything from the chevy small block line. I have had every brand and when I build on a budget, i have had better luck with Fords, just my experience and I do all my own work, use used stuff where I can and budget shop. yea i know NEW chevy stuff is cheaper if funds are no unlimited but I can get some darn good deals on used ford stuff.
