one of the disadvantages of norns is that it can only play one script at a time, meaning that you cannot connect some norns synths into an audio mangler - something that is possible with ORAC on Organelle for example. behold emplaitress (with nb) - a pseudo-engine based on Mutable Instruments Plaits that can be used in any sequencer or audio mangler for norns - on the device itself (no external source needed!). Combined with gridkeys mod or any MIDI keyboard it becomes a true game changer for norns users.

That would be absolutely fantastic and it motivated me to get back to my Norns shield. Unfortunately after refreshing, updating the system and installing those mods all of the scripts are freezing on 'loading' page. I waste 3 hrs trying different versions, sd cards etc. And finally, I have found an argument to sell this toy ; )

@@tworoundrobinsYes, I have matrix. However, I have figured out that it is emplaitress crashing sc on every boot.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I can't get it to work though. All the mods you listed are installed (do I need gridkeys if I'm usign a generic midi keyboard?) In the MIDI tab I cannot set the first to "nb" like you have. My only options are my midi keyboard and "virtual".
heya, be sure to have matrix downloaded as well as the nb's wont show up if matrix is not activated. matrix is a norns mod :)
hey there, struggling to add nb, specifically on how to add it to norns. how did you do it?
hey there, it's pretty simple:
1. download it through github or just use ;install ____ through maiden
2. restart norns
3. go to mods and select nbin and nbout by moving the encoder (must be a corresponding plus sign next to the mod)
4. restart norns again
5. you should have it in the parameters menu :)

It does yes, you just need a midi controller. I just used a grid cos wanted to go minimal
Very interesting, just wondering about options without a grid, or with a virtual grid. At $800 the Norns grid is a little out of my price range.
you don’t need a monome grid exactly. some people use launchpads or similar with MIDIgrid mod. you can even use your iphone or ipad with touchOSC and toga mod. For emplaitress I believe you can even use just a regulat midi controller :)

Huh, never tried that but they might be. I suggest giving sixolet a visit on lines. I’m pretty sure they should know :D

hey robin, your videos are my fulltime teacher for starting in norns,. thx for that. but i have some issues with this one. i installed all the scripts and i can also use emplaitress with my grid and i hear the synth. But rpls or also barcode doesnt react or record the sounds. Sie reagieren nur auf den Sound des Inputs. do you know what i'm doing wrong?

Struggling to get gridkeys to trigger emplaitstress through nb. The volume of emplaitstress when I manually trigger from the params menu is really low too even after turning the amp up
be sure to turn up the softcut level in PARAMETERS - SOFTCUT menu. this will surely help :)
@@tworoundrobins I ended up figuring it out but it was seemingly another mod that was preventing it from working when it was turned on

one strange thing I can't figure out is why it will work with rpls but not wrms. Everything is up to date. Any thoughts?
Is there a way to use Molly the Poly same as Emplaitress
depends how you want to use it. so if you just want to play it with your grid, that is totally doable with gridkeys. if you want to throw the sound into scripts within the same norns, than I think not, since emplaitress is a mod and not a script, meaning it runs along side scripts.

hey! nbin is linked in the description, you should find it in “get nb” link to a lines thread. what seems to be the problem with gridkeys? be sure to activate it and restart norns, you should have a menu in params :)

Could you, please, instruct me on how to install Emplaitress.
I install through Maiden with an ;install line and that's ok,
but when I restart Norns there's a Supercollider error
even if this mod is off.

Hi, what error does it state exactly? On the norns screen…with emplaitress be sure to restart norns at least two times
Supercollider can't start, after the 2nd restart. Maybe i also need the nb files?

@@-umbrarium yes but what does it state? :) “supercollider fail”? “Duplicate engines”? …also try looking what errors are you getting in REPL in maiden…that should give you a clue
@@tworoundrobins “supercollider fail”. And if I have duplicate engines I have to manually remove the one from the script as well as from the Code folder. Is this correct? I will try this with Awake-Rings. I will let you know how will I fare when I try Emplaitress again later. Thanks agaIn!
