That 4x4 module on the kick panel has a self test mode. If it passes the test, no need to replace. Unplug both connectors on the bottom of the module, key on engine off, press the self test button. If the red LED indicator flashes three times and then stays off, the module is good. If it doesn't flash at all, or the red LED indicator stays lit, the module or wiring to it is bad.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Finally someone with the same truck as me and the same issue I am having. Everyone just keeps telling me to go to manual locking hubs but I knew there had to be something more I could do AWESOME video
My 93 ranger has the same electronic system but with manual hubs. So far I can't tell if the 4x4 system even works because it seems to be an electrical issue as the switches don't do anything (no light, no solenoid clicking, and no dash light comes on), I just can't seem to find any schematics for the fuses or buttons. Which fuse would I need to check to start diagnosing? (If I recall these years of bronco and ranger have the same fuse panels according the chilton manual) And if you got a link to a good schematic that would be more than helpful. I'd rather start looking for the most simple problem and then diving deeper into the more complex stuff later if necessary. Unfortunately a manual swap of the transfer case is out of the question as I'd have to swap the transmission too being mine doesn't have the mounting holes for the linkage assembly. Been a while since I've done any wrenching, so I'm quite rusty these days and need some guidance lol.

I needed this video. Exactly this thing. Thank you for making it.

Manual or auto locking hubs don't matter when your transfer case can't shift into four wheel drive and spin the front drive shaft.
Thanks for posting this video it really helped me out there is not a lot of information on these 🙂👍
Common problem with the 92-96 dashes breaking at that location. They make a metal bracket that bolts up to that point and is formed to fit
$90 still ain't bad. Your interior is pretty damn clean too.
Thanks for the video it helped me out !
Good video. Very helpful. Thank you sir.

Is there a way I can just bypass that stupid thing and just run somehow a wire from the switch to the transfer case
This was the only Information for the same problem I am having. I could really use some buying information, Part Number, repair of this component ?
Do you have part number by any chance
The part number is F1TB-7E453-AA
I think someone posted an lose upper fender bolt can also cause a popping sound, fwiw.
Part number?
I alwas break the clips and then break my elbows at the same time. I usually end up Raging right afterwards lol
You provide no diagnostic testing whatsoever. Just buy a module and throw it in there. Nice advice
