Toyota Avensis 2012 | Makes second-hand SENSE??

Toyota's Avensis has always provided customers in the medium range Mondeo segment with a safe, conservative set of wheels. The third generation version continued that tradition when it was first launched in 2008, but it lacked a little in terms of style and technology. Toyota aimed to put that right when the time came for this design's first facelift in 2011 and the changes made were enough to sustain this car until further more far-reaching changes could be made in 2015. So, does an Avensis from this era make secondhand sense? Let's find out.

I’m bored of the Avensis being called boring. I’ve had enough “exciting” cars let me down and cost time and money. The Avensis is a brilliant car.

I found one Station Wagon 1.8 2014 with only 57.000km...now my Passat b8 is for sale and I am going for Avensis. We have Auris 1.4vvti in our garage for 12 years no issue at all only new clutch that's it.😂

Brilliant review!! , I own a 2010 d4d 2.2 Tourer T4.. As a second hand car these are great buys. In typical Toyota fashion, the looks are innovensive, easy to drive and is built for longevity, something which a lot of car journalists seem to miss the point on.

I have a 2012 2L D car is great running perfectly BUT for 1 thing the electric hand break has suddenly given an no functioning error on the dash. The break engages when the car is turned off but won’t work any other time which is not a problem because I only use it when parked. Supposedly this is an issue Toyota knows about. So the break actuator module is €1800 plus labor and the car won’t pass the NCT with getting this done so a perfectly good car may need to be scrapped because of the cost and possible non availability of the part.

Have one in with same fault - very common. Work on commercials & jeeps usually but am being asked to look at more & more cars for lads we repair work stuff for. Anyway, I'm different in that I'm used to doing board level repairs - this is a board fault on these caused by water ingress to the actuator module. Water runs down the manual release cable & gets inside.
If/when I find a repair solution I'll post it in the comments - might help others, you've probably already sorted yours. NCT-Land here too. :-) I have a used replacement module for this one that the customer supplied, but these are coded to the cars, so that's not much use unless the eeproms are swapped. A repair is a better solution IMO.

Of course, it's a Toyota. Also, service it on time and you'll need tyres, and wiper blades. That's about it.

    • @-BuddyGuy
      @-BuddyGuy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Parts will always be available for anything unless it's super rare. Even if you can't get an OEM part you can still go to the breaker's yard. Or a motor factor with a non-OEM alternative. Or eBay if you're really stuck. And with a Toyota you'll probably never need these options.

My 2.0 D4D Estate gets 58mpg for local journeys butI live on A roads. 60mph for 10 minutes to my nearest shop. Over a 1000 mile month, I averaged at 52mpg.
I never speed, stay in the highest gear. Travel around 65 on motorways. I use cruise control every where, even in a 30.

I have just brought one on the long motorway drive home it recorded 59mpg, 3 weeks on driving to and from work mostly on A roads with a small amount of town driving it's giving 54mpg.
I am driving gently to get this and rarely exceed 1600rpm but keep up easily with the traffic and on the speed limits.

Know you'll more than likely have to do the 4 injectors around 100k miles. They're not cheap. The electric handbrake is an expensive repair if it goes wrong. Stay away from the 2.2.

Electric handbrake has failed on my 12 2L diesel €1800 for the part alone I’m told if they can even get it (Toyota main dealership) nothing else mechanically wrong with the car but may have to scrap because car won’t pass NCT if the fault lights are showing on the dashboard.
