    Entertaining video and I agree with most of what you say with one exception: There is no way Bar Crusher boats are welded better than Surtees. Bar crushers grind their welds and go for aesthetics, surtees are welded by experienced professionals whose welds are leaps and bounds ahead of most other boat brands in my experience. I own a glass boat but I’d go a surtees over a bar crusher without a doubt

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know all the BCs I've seen have much nicer and neater welds than Surtees, they are almost perfect. See my other videos..... Surtees looked rough in comparison. But strength wise, I'm sure they are both strong. But agree, I'd take the Surtees money aside any day

    Thanks for the video, cuts right to the bone! Only thing here in the UK we only seem to get the Extreme range - very pricey as you say, especially the bigger boats, but I’m thinking just keep saving up and then pray they hold their value better than the alternatives which takes the edge off the price eventually (mortgage…? 😂). I’m looking for one last epic boat that will see me through the next 25 years so it’s worth getting the best I can possibly find

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I am in the same position at the moment..... Last boat for many many years. Sick of changing. Nothing working with extremes apart from the price! 646 with 22 degree deadrise is looking the goods

  • @impartialinterest
    @impartialinterest 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    enjoy your vids. I've always been a fibreglass deep vee man. Currently in NZ running a Buccaneer Billfisher 635 (21 degree dead rise)
    Alloy boats are super practical, but i could never own one for a reason you never mentioned, that is - CORROSION! Alloy boats do rust!!! look at some old ones, they don't age well. Glass is more difficult to customise, but at at least a polish makes them look new again, and then the ride! Interesting about your comment regarding new manufactures in NZ, Its true, there are so many now and fibreglass is losing popularity here sadly - dunno why. btw, the better NZ alloy boats are Makaira, White Pointer, Innovision & Purekraft in my opinion. Oh yes, and Surtees have a good ride, but my god they are wet boats. i think Makaira is the only alloy manufucturer that worked out how to make a carolina flair on the leading end of the bow to dry them up a bit. Not an issue for glass boats ;)

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep absolutely, good points. Yep some of these plates are bloody wet, so the hard top with wipers is quite literally the only option to not get smacked in the face all day with water. If alloy boats aren't looked after well they can definitely go bad very quickly

    Love watching your videos it’s helping me narrow down what I want for myself and the family.
    Complete different question, any tips for finding people to go out fishing with or other boating buddies we aren’t from Australia ( Israel ) don’t have a lot of adult friends other than work colleagues that are all much older gentlemen. How do I find some buddies to show me the ropes so to speak. We are a big diving family and ocean lovers

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all relative, depends what you know, have owned etc. They are not a smooth fast offshore boat. But rather a capable, but slow offshore boat. I don't mind 6-7m plate boats, but my current old dog absolutely monsters past all of them with ease. I'd definitely take a BC 670c over that boat though, but that's just me.

    Your opinion seems to have changed quite considerably from your earlier uploads. I went to the Sydney boat show just recently and after looking at all the different plate boats I walked away thinking that the Bar Crusher looked pretty ordinary & cheap compared to the Surtees & Yellowfin. The YF looks to have way more fishing room & I also prefer the cabin with the lockable roller door. Overall I would choose the YF 7000 HT Southerner any day over the Bar Crusher, it looks better, has more room & in my opinion offers better value for $$. I also believe it will have the same resale as the Bar Crusher if not better. In my opinion Bar Crushers are now out of fashion.

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nah man Yellowfin definitely a cheaper built boat all round. Their resale isn't the same as BC. But having said that, Surtees definitely had more welding, rides better and quieter. Beyond doubt. Nothing wrong with a 7000 southerner though. now that I've gone glass again, it's very hard to think seriously about plate or recommend them.

    Thanks for the great no nonsense content. Very informative. Looking at a new Haines Hunter 5.65 offshore for river, bay with family and good weather offshore with mates. Do you rate these Haines Hunter boats and are they truly 5.65metres?! If you store a boat at a pontoon do you think self draining decks are useful in that scenario or you just rely on the bilge pump and regular battery charging?

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From what I understand the 565, 585, 595 are great boats that punch above their weight. regarding storage I have never done anything like that but I imagine you would always want an auto bilge pump regardless

      The market for buyers is looking a little bit better than it did 18 months ago.. the recent price hike of fuel is putting the brakes on a lot of owners taking their boats out and a number of those have other priorities in life and are deciding to sell.

    One of nzs best brands you probably never heard of is AMF...top shelf ..if you can get yourself a used one of those...beats all the brands you mentioned..plus been around for years.
    Well engineered. I'm not biased either. I did work for them building them though.
    I have also seen many others and are a boat connoisseur of sorts..stabi do ride quite well. AMF are the most solid..and will hold together long after all the other brands ..plus 6mm hull or thicker.
    Your average glass boat may be a tad heavier ..just beware they require a bit more TLC ..like garage or covers to look after them.
    Haines hunter are overall best ..plus another buccaneer. All kiwi boats.
    The Haines came in first prize at many boat shows. ...namely the SF 600 AND SF 535. There's also SF700. All great.
    For your back ..a cat would give softest ride...but with twin o/b fuel cost may rise.

      Think their only claim to fame is to ripp-off the name formula.
      We all know that by utilising the name formula it means an excuse to change potential customers big bucks💰
      Cant help but think, must certainly be giving owners and potential buyers the wrong impression about their performance by adopting the legendary formula name 🤔
      I like HH boats, they produce some great hulls, I owned a 680 patriot for years and loved it, it was a pretty good performer, but HH definitely went down the wrong path by adopting that name.

      For comfort in plate you need to go big. 7m plus, but they aren't all equal. 2300 is the pinnacle of game boats in that size range. The ultra deep vee boats make crap game fishing rigs and never stop rocking and rolling. 2300 with twin 150s is the go, or single 300.

    Horses for courses .
    Deep v with a ballast tank suck for beach launching and will try to become a submarine in real heavy weather they also require more horsepower for the same speed .
    When comparing brands Measure the actual affective size not how long it is overall .
    Some brands include from the very tip of the fairlead to the tip of the handrail at the rear in length some use the actual hull length not the overhangs .
    I had a 6m McLay it was shit in chop but when it really got bad I could comfortable plane at 16 knots in anything I encountered . Deep v boats would be extremely compromised in such conditions ever forced into taking the waves at a very obtuse angle making the journey time much longer or taking green water over the bow. Not a fan of hard tops some brands are selling hardtops that are way to small to support the comprises that comes with the windage of a large wheel house on too small too narrow or too deep v hulls . Hard tops lean into the wind resulting in bashing the incoming seas. Trim taps can compensate for this bit rob performance. Hard tops on small hulls are too compromised .

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is why I’ve enjoyed your content cause it’s 100 per cent honest and more often than not hits the nail on the head. Bar crushers are noisy but it’s all sound and not in the ride. Surtees are behind the times when it comes to ergonomics, it’s taken them years for them just to change their dash layout. Their folding roof is due for a change to! Blindfold someone on those 2 boats and you wouldn’t tell the difference in ride.

    you forgot to mention that barcrushers are wet boats (bulk spray in the boat )and stabicrafts pound like fu*k. Don't get me wrong, in good conditions there all awesome but as my mates and I say it's the "spine-a-bifater" factor that matters. On a really shit run home even my mates Kevlar cat rattles you sometimes. I went for a run on the weekend in a "wave rider hydrofoil " in disgusting conditions on the sunshine coast. Mind blowing 🤯 ride. I'm buying one. Check'm out on TH-cam.
