If you were building from scratch, would you prefer your crawl space to be accessed as in this video, or from the exterior of the house via a small door in the foundation? Does it matter in the grand scheme of energy efficiency?
Excellent question. I would still have the access from the interior. Yes, it matters a lot from an energy point of view. My crawlspace is part of my heating and cooling space. the thermal boundary (insulation) is at the dirt level, not the joists. If you were building different, with insulation in the joists, then having a door through the foundation wall would be more efficient. I hope that helps, let me know if I'm unclear.
I'm interested in seeing the trap door come together, how it functions, etc. I think I may need to create a door in my house to access the crawlspace. Thanks!

From indoors close to the external door, for energy efficiency but moreover for security.
