    Sorry about the stupid ending. I think I spent more time playing around with the video editing than I should have!

    Greetings from Australia. Just about to build a trapdoor from a room in my house to the underground cellar. Currently the entrance is a door from outside the house that is quite low and then down stairs to a wine cellar with 2.7 M ceiling. Thanks for posting. I don't understand why 120 people have down-voted your excellent video. An up-vote from me.

      Ha, I know. For whatever reason some people don’t appreciate my humor, I guess. Thanks for the kind words!

      Extremely similar project here in SW US. good size cellar, with a weird outside door that looks terrible on the side of the house also. Planning to do a door VERY much like this one in the room over it. Same room doesn't have a closet or bathroom yet either, so I have some freedom for layout and placement I suppose, but I will also be relying on the width of the joists. Not much I can do about that.

    So what do you do, just hop down into the basement? Did you affix a ladder? Stairs? I stumbled upon your video because I am interested in closing up one hole in the floor crawl space access and creating another elsewhere in the house.

    Sgt, this is Captain Alistair Kirk, veteran of the Royal Marines, 43 Commando Fleet.
    I was looking for a way of creating a trapdoor in my shed, to allow easy access to a sewer drain, situated right beneath my shed, in case it ever got blocked. Watched your video gave me some great ideas. But, yeah that ending was unnecessary, I nearly shit my pants mate...😂😂😂

    I am planning to have a small ‘safe’ room under my small house (224 sqft). I was wondering how to hide the trapdoor, and your cupboard idea is excellent! 👍 🇵🇰❤️🇵🇰

    I used 1980s Cadillac hinges ,one that lifts up and then pulls away. 1950s and sixties hinges should work. I was able to flush mount them to the bottom to keep them hidden

    Cool door. I know an old neighborhood that has a lot of houses that could use something like this. Why did you make the lift ring off center?

    Wonderful!!!! You created the trap door between the joists? -- what were the final dimensions?

  • @zacharyohare2118
    @zacharyohare2118 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A thought for the part of the ladder that is most difficult (the topover) is to have a pull out extension to operate as a handrail on one side. Could be something as simple as a pipe in a pipe. Doesn't need to be overly complicated to still make a huge difference in ease of access. Heck, could even use a heavy duty drawer slide with a wood support, and a wood rail. The ideas are pretty endless. I even thought of a mini elevator with some linear actuators hahaha. Then I technically wouldn't even need hinges or anything. Just drop it straight down. Really pulleys and some synthetic rope would work better... still. so many things one could do. That'd be way to slow obviously for only 7 feet of travel, and then needs manual redundancy or disconnect for power and mechanical failures.
