I followed your video, installed new software, calibrated when finished and everything works. Thanks for the help, as I didn't know what to do after my gymbal stopped working after the last upgrade. I did use a jumper I picked up at a computer store instead of the wire ones. Thank you
Thanks Jack. Took off my camera and gimbal before first flight. When I replaced it, all I got was continuous beeping. Nothing would connect with the Phantom unless I unplugged the camera and gimbal. Did the hard reset just as you described it, and everything is fine.

Hi jack, thanks for your videos, they are really informative. Do you have any clue as to why my Phantom 2 vision+ refuses to spin up the motors, and could this procedure fix it? It just blinks red 4 times when i try CSC. It is really weird as everything is apparently fine, wifi, video stream, camera tilt controll.. all is good. I have calibrated the RC many times with both the RC assistant followed by calibration in the phantom assistant, but it does not work. All firmware is the latest version. When i connect the phantom 2 to the assistant software it reports that there is a problem with the mid, or zero position on one of the axis on my controller -- No matter how many times i calibrate it, but the rc and drone software both show all the axis as beeing perfect zero... very frustrating problem, any advice?

Hi can you pls help me i have a phantom 2 with the Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal and dji data link.I bought it used and was told it had been in a crash .It was not a bad crash and looks good outside and inside .I have removed the gimbal and data link as to make it standard .it binds to the remote and picks up gps and the compass is calibrated .However it dose not seem to want to come down When in the air .And is very jittery almost like a car running out of fuel.And dose not want to land easily i have connected it to my pc and done a fiermware update and a IMU calibrations .it is running on the Naza -m mode . any help please

Hi Jack. I have a p2v+ that come up with CMOS error. I guess that a hard reset would cover it, but dont know whether something else would cover it as not confident with taking top off.
Mark Townsend the hard reset just wipe the old firmware off and allowing you to replace with current version, it easy taking the top off just when open the top check for the GPS cable as you need to unplug once that done the top come right off. normal the CMOS error is to do with the camera, so i first re-run the firmware update for the camera which can only be done using the SD Card.

Antonio Eduardo de Campos make sure you have the current firmware install for both phantom and Zenmuse too, hard reset should effect the Zenmuse as only reset the firmware on the phantom it self.

hello, I downloaded dji assistant 1.08 and did the hard reset, but the assistant program says there are no updates. if I unshort the first two pins it shows firmware like it never reset. any ideas? thanks for any assistance you could give
Should be using Phantom 2 Vision+ Assistant Software v3.8 , make sure you short out the correct pins and keep the usb cable plug in, load up the Assistant software and then power on the Phantom making sure the GPS is plug in. The Assistant software will then show it been wipe and give you the option to re-load the current version, follow the on screen to reload the firmware, once done it, it will confirm you to power off the phantom. Now power off the phantom and now remove the two pins you short-out, now keeping the usb cable in and software still on screen power on the phantom and it will run they systems check and show you the firmware has been reloaded and it should show version v3.12 or V3.8 as DJI seem to be block the version to different area of the world as mine showing V3.12 and in the US some are only seem V3,8.
Great video, good to know. I am stuck on a problem. The light on the gimbal goes red as soon as I power up, and I hear a noise (3 small beeps) coming from the gimbal, almost like servo sound. Any ideas?
Jon Garis the firmware you need to copy onto the SD and switch on the phantom and it should start re-loading it for the gimbal, you can not buy spare parts for the gimbal unless it second hand , as the camera and gimbal comes as one unit.
ad with interest. if the camera is connected does this reset camera to factory default as well? I updated firmware and camera has stopped working on gimble.
i dont know why but when i do the hard reset my phantom just do the song but red light never start and when i conect to my pc i do a ubgrade version but the phantom keep the old configurations help please i want to reset it like a new
Hi there, I'm having difficulty with my Phantom2. I've tried a bit of solving problems already including calling tech support. The drone wont recognize the RC. I attempted to use the reset button. It blinks and remains red. (why it lost its pairing in the first place NO CLUE) Tech support said update the firmware. I did so including recalibrating the remote. Still no joy. The RC has a green light, and from what i can tell drone is fine. All that said would you recomend a hard reset ?

Hello, great video informative and very detailed, my phantom 2 vision + V3 fails to calibrate the compass correctly from the update 3.14 ( I did for recommendation user manual ) the compass is my biggest concern , also I have lost trasmision video to the app DJI , although the photographs and videos are saved on the SD card successfully . Looking in forums, they recommended to hard reset and install the firmware 3.08. You can install the firmware version 3.08 from the phantom 2 vision assistant 3.6 ?, or have to download it from somewhere ? I did not want to fly the phantom in these conditions , my phantom has not yet made its first flight .

Getting CFG-ERR after powering up Phantom II Vision+ V3 with flashing red LEDs and then ERROR[29] after powering up RC. No amount of calibrating RC (with or without software) in RC and Vision+ assistant fixes this. Can't find any online help on ERROR[29]. I'm thinking a hard reset is in order. Any suggestions?
i would go for a hard reset it will not damage you phantom is just wipe off the firmware leaving it with no version install, then you be able to re-install firmware again. I tested this out four time on both my phantom to make sure it work, both my phantom are working fine before and after testing too.
Hi Jack, I have a problem with my "Phantom 2 Vision +" after upgrading to v3.14. Phantom2 Assistant detects error CFG-ERR, I have tried hard-reset, as in your video, but with the same result ... amedeo gasparini thank you and the error basic means Configuration error, this may be caused by firmware upgrade from the old version, or abnormal Tx calibration. Re-calibrate your transmitter, power cycle your controller, and check all of the parameters. So turn off the phantom use the RC app for the Mac or PC plug in the RC using the USB Cable and re-calibrate you controller. then try again.
Jack DJI Phantom I am sure that sharing is always a good thing. but I hope you understand my English :) I bought the drone of my friend, with the problem of CFG-ERR, occurred after upgrade to 3.14. I have made every attempt even those recommended by you without success. then I wanted to go my way, as I learned in electronical engineering. I describe below Step By Step. -remove the cover of the drone, -disconnect the cables from the Naza to Transmitter (the flight directional PCB wifi ), -turn on the drone and wait for the complete start-up, -shut down the drone - reconnect the cables to the Transmitter and turn on the drone. Now the error is returned and everything works!
my phantom 2 looks like is pairing up to the controller but I can not get it to start the motors. it Has two red lights on. I can not even get the computer /Assistant Software to pick up my drone. Any one able to help me?. Thanks

You can do, but you don't get the updates to the no fly zone areas, and extra feature they now added into the new firmwares. But to be honest i have two P2V+ and i always firmware them as and when they get release and never had any issue.
Hi jack, great video, followed your instructions and all worked as you said. However I am having an issue with my gimbal on phantom 2 vision plus. It has not crashed ever and i have not flown this often, however it has a travel case which isfully padded but the gimbal lock case came off when I went on a road trip, the gimbal now just twitches all the time and will not initialise, i have rest the potentiometer and still no luck, cables do not look damaged and have not been broken, i do get camera feed but i can not control the camera, i have also done the hard rest. Any suggestions, faulty gimbal (replace?) cheaper to buy the new phantom 3 though. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

+shaneweightman very hard to send it anywhere now as parts are very hard to get hold of as DJI no longer sell parts for any of the Phantom 2 range now. this issue you are having could be a new bug in the firmware because DJI stop supporting this they be now bug fixes anymore.
Trip Tamine DJI Phantom 3 Pro now using light bright which is complete different to Phantom 2 Vision Plus, i not sure if you can hard reset but i will find out how if it possible.
it something i made up , but if you at RC Cars they have a jump cable which allow you to re-bind you controller and this cable it the same size for this.
Hopefully this might fix my frustrating Phantom 2. Starts fine but after a couple of minutes goes solid red on all 4 corners. The won't restart. Software says not DJI battery. Which is crap. Cleaned contacts and will try again.
Sadly not. I did the hard reset twice (left the cable in) cannot calibrate the compass, goes to flashing red every time. Tried deguasing the device with a magnet. Turning off gimbals and Video transmitters, going to remote places and everything has failed. Even replaced the Compass with a new shielded one. Time to replace it. too expensive to just write off but I feel that's what i might have to do. Thanks for getting back to me.
Mike Simmonds normal with flashing red light normal mean the firmware failed or there now firmware loaded, does it allow you to connect to the app still and see if it seeing a firmware loaded, other then that sell it off for spares and upgrade :( lol
I'm guessing it might come to that. Trying the same thing with the standard compass rather than shielded one it currently has. If it's dead I was considering the Mi Drone.

parts are hard to get hold of as DJI no longer produces part or sell them, you could fit a h3-3d gimbal but you would loose the app function or there be too much in order to get it running thou. I going to do a video on the Phantom 2 as these allot of question on this.
Hi Jack My Phantom s3 advanced turned off before any firmware was install now I get a loud alarm type sound and no lights at all. Is there a way to fore a firmware install. Thanks for any help.
yes copy the firmware file onto the SD Card put in the camera and power on and wait, with the sound and no light this is just saying there no firmware loaded, so by default the phantom should be booting and looking for a firmware to load.
Marcus Mead PK take you phantom back to it first config , so take out the PMU bring it down to v1 unplug and power off the Zenmuse H3-3D GCU , now test to see if GPS in the phantom is working, try that so we can rule out possible issue with the upgrade parts first.

dj minions de spicable I starting to learn over the years that all sort of things can cause issue and by hard reset can limit this issue very easy, it like a PC if you have an issue with the software you running or windows just seem to hang if you reboot the pc it sort out around 80% of IT issue, so with the phantom it sort of the same hard reset clear the old firmware and setting out and reload it current or no version so in some cases this will fix smaller issue and other time it back to the drawing broad.
I have a problem with my Phantom 2 Vision Plus. My Phantom cannot connect to the computer for the update. Anytime I hook up to update, there is an error message that tells me to Connect to the Controller. Do you have any idea for for how to connect so I can update my firmware? And do you know how to reset the battery because after a full charge, it only runs for about 4-5 minute and lands with a red power signal. I checked the battery life. But the green light says it's still good. I don't know what the problem is with the battery. Please reply soon. Thank you.

Dungtravel if you having issue on a Windows PC with connection, try using another USB ports as when windows install drivers for a USB devices is only install it to the USB port you plug into, so if you plug into a different USB port it will re-install the drivers again.

I have a dji 2 vision plus v2 and after i updated to the latest version thru the assistant my gimbal is dead and is making a buzzing sound th-cam.com/video/pfmfFhUF0ro/w-d-xo.html I did a full reset like in this video and upated to the latest version with no errors but my gimbal is still dead with the buzzing sound, camera still records and takes pic from app, is there anything else i can do? 65svt the issue with the Phantom 2 Vision plus the firmware is so out dated now and DJI no longer support this any more, so it not one i could help with as it could be a bug in the old firmware that could be causing a new issue, the reason behind asking if it crash before would result in the fault you have now.
+Jacks Drones when the gimbal is updating the buzzing goes away but when is done udting it comes back.. Is there another way i can try to update the camera to the latest firmware?
ello, what would happen if after you turned it on to reset it instead of plugging it in the computer you were just to turn it off and then take the reset wires out and turn it back on like norm............would it harm the copter or would the software be permanently gone and back to factory like when you first bought it and took it outa the package......

Aluminum foil also works instead of the wire, but you have to be very careful and make sure that it is only touching the F1 and F2 pins.

I would look at cali IMU just in case settings have been wipe too.

Great video, good to know. I am stuck on a problem. The light on the gimbal goes red as soon as I power up, and I hear a noise (3 small beeps) coming from the gimbal, almost like servo sound. Any ideas?
+Jon Garis red normal mean something wrong have you tried firmware the gimbal to see if this may help?

Jon Garis the firmware you need to copy onto the SD and switch on the phantom and it should start re-loading it for the gimbal, you can not buy spare parts for the gimbal unless it second hand , as the camera and gimbal comes as one unit.

Words from DJI they no hard reset switch for the camera, the hard reset only effect the phantom it self.

i dont know why but when i do the hard reset my phantom just do the song but red light never start and when i conect to my pc i do a ubgrade version but the phantom keep the old configurations help please i want to reset it like a new
Hi there, I'm having difficulty with my Phantom2. I've tried a bit of solving problems already including calling tech support. The drone wont recognize the RC. I attempted to use the reset button. It blinks and remains red. (why it lost its pairing in the first place NO CLUE) Tech support said update the firmware. I did so including recalibrating the remote. Still no joy. The RC has a green light, and from what i can tell drone is fine. All that said would you recomend a hard reset ?

+baldurkuhn1 2 mm Hex Screwdriver and Philips #0 Screwdriver, you have to be careful when taking it off as it can be very tight to get off.
+Jacks Drones Yeah, I got the #0 yesterday but still I can't open it. I think it's so tight that I deformed the screw, and now I'm screwed :(
baldurkuhn1 you may have to carefully drill it out just enough to cut the screw head off
Hello, great video informative and very detailed, my phantom 2 vision + V3 fails to calibrate the compass correctly from the update 3.14 ( I did for recommendation user manual ) the compass is my biggest concern , also I have lost trasmision video to the app DJI , although the photographs and videos are saved on the SD card successfully . Looking in forums, they recommended to hard reset and install the firmware 3.08.
You can install the firmware version 3.08 from the phantom 2 vision assistant 3.6 ?, or have to download it from somewhere ?
I did not want to fly the phantom in these conditions , my phantom has not yet made its first flight .
By the way , I have Another phantom 2 vision+ with no updates , it is possible extract and use the firmware of that phantom ?

Getting CFG-ERR after powering up Phantom II Vision+ V3 with flashing red LEDs and then ERROR[29] after powering up RC. No amount of calibrating RC (with or without software) in RC and Vision+ assistant fixes this. Can't find any online help on ERROR[29]. I'm thinking a hard reset is in order. Any suggestions?
i would go for a hard reset it will not damage you phantom is just wipe off the firmware leaving it with no version install, then you be able to re-install firmware again. I tested this out four time on both my phantom to make sure it work, both my phantom are working fine before and after testing too.

amedeo gasparini thank you and the error basic means Configuration error, this may be caused by firmware upgrade from the old version, or abnormal Tx calibration. Re-calibrate your transmitter, power cycle your controller, and check all of the parameters. So turn off the phantom use the RC app for the Mac or PC plug in the RC using the USB Cable and re-calibrate you controller. then try again.

I bought the drone of my friend, with the problem of CFG-ERR, occurred after upgrade to 3.14.
I have made every attempt even those recommended by you without success. then I wanted to go my way, as I learned in electronical engineering. I describe below Step By Step.
-remove the cover of the drone,
-disconnect the cables from the Naza to Transmitter (the flight directional PCB wifi ),
-turn on the drone and wait for the complete start-up,
-shut down the drone
- reconnect the cables to the Transmitter and turn on the drone.
Now the error is returned and everything works!
my phantom 2 looks like is pairing up to the controller but I can not get it to start the motors. it Has two red lights on. I can not even get the computer /Assistant Software to pick up my drone. Any one able to help me?. Thanks

You can do, but you don't get the updates to the no fly zone areas, and extra feature they now added into the new firmwares. But to be honest i have two P2V+ and i always firmware them as and when they get release and never had any issue.

Hi jack, great video, followed your instructions and all worked as you said. However I am having an issue with my gimbal on phantom 2 vision plus. It has not crashed ever and i have not flown this often, however it has a travel case which isfully padded but the gimbal lock case came off when I went on a road trip, the gimbal now just twitches all the time and will not initialise, i have rest the potentiometer and still no luck, cables do not look damaged and have not been broken, i do get camera feed but i can not control the camera, i have also done the hard rest. Any suggestions, faulty gimbal (replace?) cheaper to buy the new phantom 3 though. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

+shaneweightman very hard to send it anywhere now as parts are very hard to get hold of as DJI no longer sell parts for any of the Phantom 2 range now. this issue you are having could be a new bug in the firmware because DJI stop supporting this they be now bug fixes anymore.

it something i made up , but if you at RC Cars they have a jump cable which allow you to re-bind you controller and this cable it the same size for this.

Hopefully this might fix my frustrating Phantom 2. Starts fine but after a couple of minutes goes solid red on all 4 corners. The won't restart. Software says not DJI battery. Which is crap. Cleaned contacts and will try again.

Sadly not. I did the hard reset twice (left the cable in) cannot calibrate the compass, goes to flashing red every time. Tried deguasing the device with a magnet. Turning off gimbals and Video transmitters, going to remote places and everything has failed. Even replaced the Compass with a new shielded one. Time to replace it. too expensive to just write off but I feel that's what i might have to do. Thanks for getting back to me.
Mike Simmonds normal with flashing red light normal mean the firmware failed or there now firmware loaded, does it allow you to connect to the app still and see if it seeing a firmware loaded, other then that sell it off for spares and upgrade :( lol
I'm guessing it might come to that. Trying the same thing with the standard compass rather than shielded one it currently has. If it's dead I was considering the Mi Drone.

parts are hard to get hold of as DJI no longer produces part or sell them, you could fit a h3-3d gimbal but you would loose the app function or there be too much in order to get it running thou. I going to do a video on the Phantom 2 as these allot of question on this.

yes copy the firmware file onto the SD Card put in the camera and power on and wait, with the sound and no light this is just saying there no firmware loaded, so by default the phantom should be booting and looking for a firmware to load.
Have had it on ovwr an hour and a half and no joy.

Yeah i have a DJI phantom 1 and i upgraded it with a GCU and a PMU to use a gimbal on it but it seems to have knocked out the gps :/
Marcus Mead PK take you phantom back to it first config , so take out the PMU bring it down to v1 unplug and power off the Zenmuse H3-3D GCU , now test to see if GPS in the phantom is working, try that so we can rule out possible issue with the upgrade parts first.

why the dji phantom 2 vision have a problem like that?
dj minions de spicable I starting to learn over the years that all sort of things can cause issue and by hard reset can limit this issue very easy, it like a PC if you have an issue with the software you running or windows just seem to hang if you reboot the pc it sort out around 80% of IT issue, so with the phantom it sort of the same hard reset clear the old firmware and setting out and reload it current or no version so in some cases this will fix smaller issue and other time it back to the drawing broad.
I have a problem with my Phantom 2 Vision Plus. My Phantom cannot connect to the computer for the update. Anytime I hook up to update, there is an error message that tells me to Connect to the Controller. Do you have any idea for for how to connect so I can update my firmware? And do you know how to reset the battery because after a full charge, it only runs for about 4-5 minute and lands with a red power signal. I checked the battery life. But the green light says it's still good. I don't know what the problem is with the battery. Please reply soon. Thank you.

Dungtravel if you having issue on a Windows PC with connection, try using another USB ports as when windows install drivers for a USB devices is only install it to the USB port you plug into, so if you plug into a different USB port it will re-install the drivers again.

Try this down load the DJI software 3.6 and do a hard reset with this one it show downgrade you , let me know if this works as I have other idea.

When I go to upgrade the phantom, it goes about half way then stops and said it failed.

the small silver box is the one I am talking about 2.4g, I have followed a vid by Peter Homer on here, it involves fitting ext ariels to the phantom to replace the internal therefore sorting out a better gps signal, since then I have no vid from my phantom so maybe it has blown my wifi unit? mega annoyed is an understatement?

I did a full reset like in this video and upated to the latest version with no errors but my gimbal is still dead with the buzzing sound, camera still records and takes pic from app, is there anything else i can do? Thanx in advance

+Jacks Drones well it was given to me.. So i dont know if it was crashed before.. before the update it was working. I just noticed that the camera is not on the latest update but it wont update thru the sd card with the latest file..
65svt the issue with the Phantom 2 Vision plus the firmware is so out dated now and DJI no longer support this any more, so it not one i could help with as it could be a bug in the old firmware that could be causing a new issue, the reason behind asking if it crash before would result in the fault you have now.
+Jacks Drones when the gimbal is updating the buzzing goes away but when is done udting it comes back.. Is there another way i can try to update the camera to the latest firmware?

ello, what would happen if after you turned it on to reset it instead of plugging it in the computer you were just to turn it off and then take the reset wires out and turn it back on like norm............would it harm the copter or would the software be permanently gone and back to factory like when you first bought it and took it outa the package......

I need to install it and therefore request please help installing these components in my phantom 2 Vision plus.
