Skinner I've been a fan for more than 10 years now and saw them live for the first time past november. Thechnically they're obviously not as good as they used to be, but man, they are downright podium animals! Definitely go see them when you've got the chance or you will regret it forever. The moment the whole crowd sings along to nothing else matters. Some manly tears right there man
Lately I was on Metallica concert in Cracow. That was incredible! I love intro of every live: "Ecstasy of Gold". And Rob&Kirk Doodle too ;) In one word: Amazing!

It's based on the movie Johnny Got His Gun. The book is even better than the movie.
actually what its about its he steps on a landmine or gets blown up and he loses all his senses and pretty much gets trapped inside his own mind or like a coma he will never wake up from. when the song starts up he goes on about the things he cant do anymore and its about the reality of war

I'm only 20 but I found a metallica CD at a garage sale when I was 5 and have been die hard since
LessThan Zero I have a short list of things that have impacted me in such a powerful way. 1)sitting in the original ghostbusters car 2) seeing Metallica live (as security) 3) serving in the Army 4) getting married. This is not in order of importance or even sequential order.

Glad you're slowly entering our world of great music.
The entire "And Justice for All" album is full of emotion. It's the first studio album released after Cliff Burton's death. You can tell they poured their anguish and grief into this album. I have a bootleg album of theirs that is their first concert in Japan, I believe, after Cliff's death. Very strong, very fast. Very moving.
I put it #1 Album from Metallica Killem all, Master of Puppets, and Ride The Lighting is very very close behind whtv order
I actually watched "Johnny Got his Gun" a few weeks ago. Very depressing, but also a good movie
I felt the movie needed the intensity of the song to better exemplify the intensity of the story.

Based on a 1930s movie Johnny Got His Gun, this song is about a forcably survived soldier of war who lost his limbs, his sight, and speech, and wanted to be put out of his misery but unable to portray his pain
Book is from the 30s. I believe the movie is early 70s. Either way, both book and movie are excellent and helped birth this masterclass of a song

Literally in almost 95% of the rap songs i know, the producer does 70% of the work and the rapper/artist only being 30%. The whole beat along with their melodies playing along? Done by the producer. Autotune to make rappers sound GOOD? Producer also. Some people might be angry at me and say that metal/rock/other legit music done by bands and rap are completely different. But if u actually compare the talent put into each kind of music, obviously legit bands win. Not only that, most old songs played by bands i know are more meaningful than most rap music i’ve listened to in terms of songwriting and lyrics. Nowadays i just kept hearing music about drugs, smoking, girls, and money (im not saying ALL of them are about those things). I was actually a hip hop head before, well that was until i listened to Metallica. 🤘

Nashid Mamoon megadeth may be better technicians but that's really where it stops. I've listened to Megadeth so yeah. Their musicality is non existant aside from the complexity.

the solo,riff and ending to this song make it an absolute masterpiece and in my opinion one of if not thee best heavy metal song every written.
it's so raw, full of emotion, and incredibly well-made.

I read about in Guitar world magazine back in the 90s, googling around for it I could not find the specific name. Watch Kirk in the documentary "A Year and a half in the life of Metallica" when he is being pushed into figuring out the solo by Bob Rock. Pretty amazing moment caught on camera.

I don't really care if it has "won an award". What does it mean for my music experience if a song has won an award.. I listen to music because it makes me feel a certain way or the lyrics mean something to me.

He probably is still listening to more hip hop than metal. If I spent that much time listening to new metal (or at least new to me), I would already consider myself a metalhead (I used to listen to a lot of reggaeton. My mom introduced me to Pink Floyd, my dad to Eric Clapton and a school friend to Metallica. Never looked back)

I have loved that song, since hearing it for the first time. Everything from the slow build up, to the energetic end. Its just beautiful.
The way Lars builds this piece is beyond words ... listening to this a few years later did I notice, that he builds up the bass drum line to a fever pitch just before it hits high gear ... beyond brilliant.

You've almost definitely heard Enter Sandman at some point on the radio or something, but you should probably react to that if you haven't, and also you need to get ...And Justice For All going, because it's up there with Master of Puppets, it will blow your fucking mind.
Sandman was so popular where I lived in the 90's, it was listed right next to "Stairway to Heaven" at the guitar stores, on the "do not play" sign by the demo models.
If you want to hear more of Metallica in their prime, you gotta check out some footage from their Seattle 1989 concert.
Back in the day (early 90's) I remember hearing my brother learning this on guitar...by ear, he couldn't read tablature at that point in time. Once he learned the complete song, he'd hop to another. He's an amazing guitarist and taught my son who is now 21, both of em are shredders. Miss those days. ❤

I was in high school when this came out...and it was THE biggest music event in a very long time. It was the first metal song to get that huge and that mainstream. You could hear it back to back on every music station for weeks. That's what makes this song so epic...its creatively untouchable. Its considered by many to be the number one metal song of all time...I'd have to agree.
