Hey, trying to get my 16v running and I had a weird problem where it seemed like it was blowing out of the intake. Mechanical timing is exactly you show and how the EM shows, everything is OEM. Intake 12’ and exhaust at 5 with the crank at TDC. I’m running bike carbs and the engine was blowing out my injector plugs.
I flipped the cams inboard, so advanced 180* and it stopped blowing out the intake. It just felt like we advanced the cams 180* because the crank rotates twice for every one time the cams rotate .
Really bothered by it and I still have to work out my ignition timing. If you have any tips or advice I would really appreciate it

What exactly is blowing out the intake? Also bike carbs? Also blowing out the inj’s ? Kinda strange if the car isn’t modified. Need a little more info regarding.

@@katanagarage168oddly enough i’m having a very similar issue with my 4age, a group im in said it’s a 180 out of time and just to flip the distributor rotor. did that but im still having the same issue, its like it’s sucking air in through the exhaust and the intake is pushing out the air. like the exhaust and intake are doing their opposite jobs

Having issues.. Cannot find timing mark on main crank.. set it where I think it is, put plastic cover on and it shows that it is to the left of TDC by 20 degrees.. Is this correct?

Both cam gears should be lined up with the marks in the timing case upper ( gears should be at 12 o’clock) and line up the mark on the crank sprocket to the mark in the oil pump. I hope that this helps. Reach out if you have any troubles

Not all 4ag use the timing marks on the plastic cover. Some are via a pin protruding out from the bolt that tightens the timing belt idler/tensioner. As long as the notch in the timing belt pulley line up with the little bump on the oil pump casing and crank pulley woodruf key/slot is at 12 o'clock the crank is at TDC.
The pin on the cams that help lock the cam pulley's into position on the camshaft the inlet should be at 12 o'clock and the exhaust 5 o'clock.

bro. that torque wrench action in the beginning had me cringing hard. when it clicks, YOU'RE DONE!!!! STOP TURNING IT!!!! THOSE CAP BOLTS ARE VERY DELICATE!!

Facts that’s why I can torque with confidence using the proper tools. That wrench is calibrated in (Lb in)
