Shot film for 35 years and every lens had a ring on it for aperture. Never accidentally changed it. Used the rings on Canon RF mounts since they came out and never inadvertently changed it. I like the lens for travel. It’s small, lightweight, and unassuming.
This is the first video I watch from this channel. You have a great production quality as well as presentation. I can’t believe the small amount of subscribers with this quality. Good luck and I will start watching your videos from now on.
I got one. I like it. My R6 kit right now is a 14mm for starscapes, the 70-200 F4 for whatever a 70-200 is for, and this 35mm macro. It looks good on the camera and I'm happy with the image quality. Sometimes I find myself not being able to stand far enough back to frame things even at 70mm, so I needed something between 14 and 70. Try taking a picture of a waterfall with the 70-200 while standing on a narrow path with a rock wall behind you. The 35 will call out from your bag, "pick me! pick me!" Just don't drop it in the water.
My understanding is that video focus changes are intentionally slower, and the transition speed can be changed by adjusting the "Movie Servo AF speed" setting (on R6 Mark II, at least)
Actually this is quite interesting, because I have a new video about the autofocus on cameras and lenses from Canon, and it's not only about the settings in the camera. I think you should see this: th-cam.com/video/vuyRvfz5Moo/w-d-xo.html
Kudos on the content. I’ll support my compatriots:). I just bought the r6 with the kit lens (loooong looong way from my Fuji xt4 kit lens which was actually great). My next addition to the kit would be the 35 1.8 I think. The L series lenses are incredibly expensive for our current wages:))…Bravo
Thanks a lot, Andrei, for coming on this channel and for supporting me! The R6 is my dream camera, but... I wouldn't refuse a Sony A7s III to be honest. The RF 35mm is a very sharp lens, you'll see.
I experience on Manual focusing with this lens, there comes orange highlights on the subject. Almost like a fine neon orange light flickering on the sides of the subject. But this does not appear after taking the photo. Is this normal? But switching to autofocus, this does not happen at all.
It’s normal and it’s called Focus Peaking. It shows you when the subject is in focus when using manual focusing. You can deactivate it in the camera, but I wouldn’t recommend this because it’s useful.
Hey I have just purchased myself my first ever camera. Canon eos r and I am trying to decide between 50mm rf or 35mm rf ? I will mainly be shooting my little girl indoors and outdoors. Like flower field shots and fashion type shots. She is quick and moves a lot. 🤣♥️
@@VideoMakerTwist I generally keep it at F2.8 at the lowest.. unless I REALLY need that extra stop & a half. Like I said, I love the lens.. it's not perfect, but it's damn good. I'm nitpicking a bit with the focus thing. I'm very satisfied. The Quality of the lens especially for the price. I find with photos, it's spectacular. With video, it's very good.
I actually went on to a camera store to buy this lens but when started focusing whole store turned their attention at me...that's how loud focus motor was.I immediately gave up on 35mm but kind lady from the store suggested something else...16mm f/2.8!I come by another day and gave her big box of chocolate pralines for giving me that advice. 🤠
Fully agree with what you said. Pros outweigh the cons very heavily. I got the R6 and this was my first lens for the camera. Man I've been so impressed!! 👍👍
So awesome that you bought the R6, that's my dream camera at the moment! Now that I own the 35mm lens for a while, I could say a few more things about it, so maybe I'll make an updated video on this.

I agree with you, Paul. It's a matter of getting used to it. Do you use it for shooting video too?

Wow, thank you so much! It's good to have feedback like this which keeps me motivated!

You made me laugh! Yeah, the 35mm is a middle ground choice and it's creating that cool blur at 1.8.

Sigma 30mm f1.4 or this one for low light videography?
(I have Canon r50)
I actually turn the Function ring off because I don't want my settings changed by accident. Great content!
Got a bunch of EF L and EF-S lenses but not this one, the RF L version is quite expensive but will look into it for portraits and events photography.

Hey! First of all you need to decide which 50mm rf version do you want to buy: the f1.2 or the f1.8, because the price difference is huge.
Canon Speedlight
Nice video!! Is this lens excellent for a Videography?
Right now, for me it's the main lens for video production. But it depends what you need to record.
is this the only fast lens they have?
Please can I get your preset for ios
I absolutely Love this lens... it's sooo damn good!
I use it more than I'd like to admit.. and yes.. balancing an r5 on a gimbal with this is a breeze
Agree, Brian! It's small and light. However, let me ask you this: what's the biggest CON in your opinion for this lens?
@@VideoMakerTwist it sometimes hunts when shooting video.
And will lose focus.. so I'll have my shot rolling.. and then.. nope..
@@njrivetelite I feel you :) When this happens, I assume you're recording with it at f1.8? If yes, try to set it at f2.8 and you'll have less hunting.
@@VideoMakerTwist I generally keep it at F2.8 at the lowest.. unless I REALLY need that extra stop & a half.

With video, it's very good.
Awesome! Thanks for explaining these details :) Have a great weekend!

Are you sure you tried the RF 35mm and not the EF 35 mm?
@@VideoMakerTwistI'm sure!
Slower focusing in video mode was a solution to decrease the motor noise on the video.
Yeah, but it's annoying sometimes. Too slow, hahah!

Is it good for food photography?
Yes! I personally love it when taking photos.
On the R my ring was set to aperture but on my R5 it’s set to EV
I know I’m 11 months later, but if possible could you do a test with the R7 and this lens for video?
I would do it with pleasure, but I don't have an R7.
it's the cheapest lens I have for my RF system, but it's the one I use most often...
Love that, Jeff! I feel the same about it.
43mm filter bro
Hey bro! Thanks for the comment. What do you mean by 43mm exactly? If you refer to the filter size for this lens, it's 52 mm.
@@VideoMakerTwist my bad... "I mistake rf 50 mm is 43mm filter thread and Rf 35mm is 52mm Filter thread "
That's correct, thanks for the feedback and I hope you stick around :)
