There is only one very specific way to find out what The Pale actually is, and you are unlikely to find it because it involves going quite far down a conversation tree that you already explored some of and moved on from. I will put specific instructions in this comment, but put them underneath some empty lines so that you can avoid reading it if you don't want to, or come back here later if you find that your lack of knowledge of The Pale is blocking off some quests or conversations. - - - - - - - - - - 1. Talk to Joyce 2. Ask her to tell you about reality 3. Ask "Where are we?" and continue through the conversation. (You already did this in a previous episode) 4. When you get the option, choose "Okay, that's Martinaise. What's Revachol?" (Continue) and continue through the conversation. (In the previous episode you left the conversation at this point instead of continuing). 5. When you get the option, choose "Where _are_ we?" again. You will get a new thought. 6. Think the thought, then return to Joyce. 7. Ask her about reality again and pass the white skill check "What is... (Reach for something fundamental)" [Conceptualization - Impossible 20] 8. Ask all the follow-up questions that arise.
Ah ha! I wonder if this was the buried White Check that I kept seeing on the menu but couldn't find when I'd try to cycle back through (may be later where I try to find this). I never was able to find this buried check! As a design/UX note, the game should re-activate the lines in a dialogue chain that lead to buried new line, but especially if the new options are White Checks many layers into a dialogue tree. There's no way to really counter the repetition and redundancy of re-triggering conversation threads to get at these checks, but it's especially frustrating when there's no way to even know they exist and wanting to neutralize something else in the meta telling you it does (the check list). In the end it all just looked like terrible design to me, since that Check List came across as useless to the game flow experience. More frustrating than helpful.
1:39:16 You have missed an important thing in this area, very obvious actually !!! 1:55:28 You failed the check because you were not equipping the tool in your hand (-10 Tool not in hand) !! 🙂
I went to the first time stamp... I can't recall what I may have missed or found later near the car just by looking at the scene. Did I already interact with the car by this stage?!? What did I miss in that area! haha
