- So my mate tom that you would have seen previously is having some issues with his Vauxhall Vectra C.. Today we try and fix those issues! Enjoy.

@savage garage. I can 100% guarantee you it's the front drop links knocking. Always feel solid without a wheel on as they're under load. 👍🏻

I put meyle hd drop links on my astra h, best mod you can make to a vauxhall
Just a little tip, Keep that old tensioner pulley & make a note of the bearing/s part number that should be on the oil seal, Find a bearing factors & price them up, you'll probably find it's cheaper plus you will get a far better quality make of bearing too, (After market parts tend to use really cheap & nasty bearings) then rebuild the old one for next time as they are not to bad to knock out, I started doing this after getting fed up of having early failures on quite a few after market units bearings.
Look at the top mounts on the front legs just had to change mine due to knocking

Yep , just had that on my Saab 93 (same suspension setup), it was the top mount !
Got myself a Vectra c after selling the astra g. I'm quite pleased of it. Its a nice car.
Strut top mate!! My Ford Focus mk2 had this problem replaced that book knocking the lot went away mate
Stick the wheel on full lock, one of get in the wheel arch. And the other person ferociously rocks the car side to side. Usually at that point you can feel or even see which part is clunking. Had the same issue chasing a knock on a zaffy recently. And this method worked well.
Strut top mounts/bearings mate. They tend to go on any car. In most cases you won't hear them unless you are driving over a speed bump.
Or if they are really bad they will lock up and make it hard for the strut to turn and that tend to snap springs. A common problem on Mondeos.

I myself have never owned a Ford or Vauxhall, mainly bought Mitsubishi's.
I had a Carisma for over 10 years with over a 175,000 miles, all on the original clutch, exhaust, battery and all the suspension parts.

I had a whine JUST LIKE your "water pump whine" and I assumed it was the alternator. Mechanic had replaced the tensioner and rollers on another vehicle I had. I assumed my van was the alternator and straight away he said it will be the tensioner and rollers and HE WAS RIGHT. Stopped 95% but there's still a little bit on startup for the first 25 seconds. So that'll be the power steering or alternator or airconditioning. The water pump was done not terribly far ago (under 2 years) when the timing belt was done.

Got one of those Sealey rachets and they work great working in the engine bay. For them stubborn bolts i usually hand loosen them with another rachet then use the Sealey but putting bolts back on are a treat cause it will never over tighten them

Same set up as the Saab 93. I had a heavy knocking on my and it turned out to be the d bushes on the anti roll bar. Hope this helps.
I had knocking on my vectra B, took a long time to find out it was the exhaust knocking on the sub-frame behind the flexible section, worth a look! Annoying but not dangerous.

Totally agree. I can't get both front/back wheels up at the same time without the car looking as though it's going to fall off an axle stand as I'm jacking up the opposite side :) Would be nice to have a tutorial showing what areas are safe to lift with a trolly jack :)

Nice work James 😁 I've been watching your videos for over a year now. I think the knocking noise is the top mount. They are made from plastic and have bearings inside. I also have a vectra c 1.8Sri and I've replaced them many times. At the moment I drive cabs and my vectra has 263k miles so I know those vectras petty well. I hope that helps. Had this noise symptom on my focus 1.6 tdci, changed the drive belt tensioner and it went, also timing belt was changed as it was due and now it is all smooth and quiet apart from the the normal diesel engine sound
My vectra was knoking loud.
I't was the rubber rings on the front springs, a mechanic didden put them back on when replacing a broken spring.
So I checked all parts repeatedly until I noticed they were missing.
I put some new in and it's fine
Learn a ton and enjoy a lot~
Vauxhall likes to make a knock noise left front when going over a sped hump, the shock centre gets bent easily on UK roads or shock mounts make it sound dry grindy noise

Also check your radiator mounts they can cause knocking when going over bumps
Might have to look at the drop link on my astra then, couldn't find anything wrong either but got the same knock. Thought it was the drive axle as it was the only thing that seemed like it was knocking.
Bit of a tip for you. To make life easier removing the water pump pulley, slightly stacked the bolts with the belt still on. Makes it so much easier to remove. Also when reinstalling, after you've put the belt back on, tighten the bolts again. You,'ll be surprised how much tighter they go. To be honest you should have left the wheels on the car once jacked up and then used a pry bar to lift the wheel. Will show any play in top mounts and bottom ball joints. To check droplinks, normally the suspension has to be under load. I.E wheels on the floor.

I’m gonna say from experience the shock absorber it self, it’s most probably a gas shock which mean it doesn’t leak oil but loses pressure, had this loads of times in my garage.
Try The top mounts mine had the same problem
top mounts can knock like mad even on very slight bumps in the road

Don't know if you watch retrorestore but he did the front suspension on a Vectra and the shock top mount/bearing was knackered, so I'd look there if nothing obvious appears faulty...
I have a new plan when working on my cars, I'm not buying anything until I remove the old bits as I've bought too many bits unnecessarily over the years.
as said before strut top mount or maybe even the subframe bolts maybe need nipping up.

Good job as always James :D . But one thing pleease do not scrape any leftover gasket with metal scraper you can very easily dent the surface and then you will have leaks.. Also please question about the vectra C. When you have done the intake hose conversion from vectra c to your astra I wanna do the same thing.. But I dont know from what engine should that hose be.. Do all vectras C have the same bigger air intake? Thanks
Its the vectra C diesel intake pipe and connector to airbox

I've got the same one,even colour the same.When engine gets hot,oil is leaking from somewhere and going straight on exhaust.Smell so bad inside that you need to opet all windows to get rid of smell.When engine is cold,there is nothing.When I leave car overnight and check underneath in the morning,there is no one drop of oil!
Is that valve cover gasket or can be something else?

What's the liquid next to the strut and the air box? I don't recall having one of those on my Z18XER Vectra.
Is the suspension noise still there ?

Did check anti-roll bar bushes ?
Best off using a plastic scraper to get the gunk off for the water pump, less chance of putting a scratch in the metal where water can leak through

Nice. Where is the front central jacking point on the Vectra C? Didnt think there was one. Is it the subframe thought that was bit further back.

Other comments say otherwise. But check the front subframe bolts. These can cause horrible knocking noise👍🏻
Maybe gear linkage mount?
What size is the pulley torx bolts ?

Check the droplinks when the car is on the floor and they will tell you a diffrent story i had to do mine a few times

@@MrDEEJAYLEE it goes to the expansion bottle.Its a pressurised system. Thats why you check when cold to topup. even vauxhall recommend it.

Anyone help? I have a mk4 Astra, there are a couple problems I’m having and wanted some suggestions, also I don’t have a great understanding of cars, so first of all when braking medium to hard the front wheels feel like it’s jolting when stoping and I feel it in the steering wheel too, and second for the first time today when driving the engine just cut out and then wouldn’t start, so pulled over and tried starting it and it would start and revs would go up then go back down and cut out, I then opened the bonnet and noticed a small puddle of oil in the engine bay, left it for 5 minutes and then started again and it was fine? Thanks for any help :)

Try changing the wheels, front to the back and vice versa and see if the noise follows.

get yourself a stethoscope,, you will be able to pinpoint noises much better than buying un necessary bits. put wheel on and get your mate to get crowbar under it to move up and down guarantee you will see some slight movement in the droplink or D bush at subframe sometimes checking by hand just dont generate enough force to move it. good video :)
The noise could be the sway bar
Great video as usual, I strongly suggest you and Tom invest in some decent footwear not just for the safety aspect but why ruin an expensive pair of white trainers with oil and coolant

Sounds just as bad my 1.8 Sri sounded like a diesel on cold start up was told it was something to do with the vvt the other common fault was the strut top mounts give it a good oil not dw40 other fault drop links springs as well I also had a faulty egr Valve witch gave the the same code as your Minni gose in to limp mode replaced airmass flow meter & the 2 o2 sensers good job the parts are cheep apart from all that I enjoyed driving my Sri

Where did you jack the vec up on the front ?
It does look to be the subframe if not then cowboy lifting on the sump
You never checked the top mounts for any play...

I’m about to take in a 2015 reg Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi EcoFlex Design spec, I’ve never really been a Vauxhall fan always a German car fan Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes mostly but just wondering any common faults I need to know about or any like that its only done 33k from new not long had a MOT 10 months left think it now need rear brake pads which is a minor thanks advance

eh mate 1.8 gasoline is the most less sound producer in the market of opel or vauxhall,.... Vectra spec C 2000-2006 and the most economical option is 1.8 16v on vectra late production day car is the best comfort ever driving long distances in my opinion but..... 1.790and 24 valves is top of vauxhall opel under 200 hp so you have to pull out engine lag and power spoil to achieve smooth run ..... after all opel is good and economical, also o cheep maintenance and cheep parts :)

never stops
never shims of fuel or lack of power
never stops on long runs just if they are needed
so in my ideea is ok
Price will Vectra be ?
