    I had a friend that owned a Suzuki dealership in Albany, Ca...when the first X-6 came out he asked me to take one home and ride it around to show it off and drum up interest...well, I was 16 years old so it took me about zero seconds to jump all over that. I rode it for 2 weeks, beat some Triumph Bonnies and BSA Lightnings in the 'stop light to stop light' grand prix's...and ending up buying 2 new X-6's (1965 and 1967)...ended my 250 days with a 1970 Suzuki T250 and then moved on to a couple of Kawasaki Mach lll's.
    Thanks for the memory.

    The X6 was my 2nd bike, replacing a CB160. Bored it and installed new pistons, opened up transfer ports, JR expansion chamber and 2 tooth smaller front sprocket. It was a blast to blow away 650 Triumphs and BSA's!!

    Have a black 67 Hustler. The previous owner bought high pipes and had a homemade bath plate. Raced my original X6 almost daily back then! Arguably one of the first superbikes😊

    Rode one from Columbus Ohio to Washington and down to La and back in 1970. They were wonderful little bikes, sporty and quick. This video is a treat for my memory. I wish I had it back. Thanks for the tour. PM

      How fast (top speed) would it go? My 305 Yamaha would only go 80mph. I thought it should have been able to do about 100. 29.5 hp. I tried taking out the exhaust baffels, air filters, ignition timing and carb needle adj. Nothing worked. It would go 80mph in fourth at 8000 rpm or 80mph in fifth at 6000 rpm. I now think if I would have used a tooth or two smaller gear on the engine I could have got a little better top end.

    I had a 1967 T20 Suzuki Super Six reg WNU 242F from new, exactly the same colour as this beauty. This was my second bike, after a Suzuki T200 Invader - fabulous. I had a Kawasaki 500 triple FCH911J after but the T20 was the best all rounder and never let me down once.

    I bought a 1966 new back in the day (black and silver color scheme) and it was my second motorcycle with the first being a little Suzuki 80. It's hard to describe how fierce the acceleration was even though this was only a 250. It had a 6 speed gearbox and the first ratios were quite low. It was almost like you went from 0 to 20 or 30 mph about as fast as you could twist the hand grip. Acceleration wasn't as fierce after that, though. It really did to the claimed 0-60 in six seconds. But acceleration above that dropped off greatly because it was just 29 horsepower. Not bad for a 250, though. It was the 6 speed gearbox that made it quite lively. Also, I put Goodyear "blue Streak" racing tires on it at the suggestion of a friend. Remarkably improved road gripping versus the stock tires.

    Baddest 250 of its time, maybe anytime. A true "Giant Killer" to embarrass the guys with the big displacement bikes.

      Back in the day, I was employed to deliver heavy steel printing forms to advertising companies on a twelve month old 1966 250cc Suzuki Hustler, with the forms stuffed into two saddle bags. Such was the vibration, that it was disconcerting to simply sit on the seat, along with the vibration transmitted to the footrests and handle bars, The speedometer needle looked like one of those needles that trace ink on a graph when an 8.0 level earthquake hits. One thing to be said about it's 6 speed gearbox, you couldn't kill it with the proverbial sledgehammer. I know, I tried, by slamming it back down through the gears at 50 km/h, while bracing for the dramatic deceleration, and hoping something catastrophic would result, so the firm could buy a new bike. Apart from a humongous lot more vibration, that'd have anyone's false teeth rattling in unison, the Suzy took it in it's stride. Believe me I tried this for a solid week with nothing breaking. That said though, It was not a common fault, as I visited my local Suzuki Dealer and took one for a test ride out of curiosity and didn't feel any undue vibration at all. I remember looking forward to quitting time, when I'd ride home on my 250cc Yamaha YDS3, with that signature megaphone exhaust note and familiar blue smoke trail. Like you say about the Suzy, the Yammie too was a bike that'd embarrass the big bikes. I was out with my GF one night, when a guy on a Honda 750 four challenged me at a set of lights. I said okay, but truly imagined I'd be left behind, but to my shock, The Yammie took off so damn quick, I kid you not, I rode across that intersection on the back wheel. The 750 was quick, and sat abreast of my rear wheel, but beat him by 2/3rds of a bike length. We stopped in a clear space and talked awhile. He was intrigued to check out my bike, thinking I'd customized it for more power. Funny how life goes, we became firm friends after that, hanging out together, Apologies for such a long comment Patrick, Cheers, ride safe...

      @@davidhamilton506 good stuff, David. In 1969 I bought a new CB 350 Honda and my older brother bought a Yamaha 350 Scrambler. The the first couple months my Honda would outrun the Yamaha. Then all of a sudden after that break in period, the all I could do was hold my breath to avoid a lung full of two stroke smoke. Not even close after that but I still preferred the 4 stroke Honda twin. Good memories for sure.

    • @davidhamilton506
      @davidhamilton506 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@treetoppa8388 Yeah, I totally agree. Looking back, I wish I'd have kept that bike. Would love to own another YDS3 to restore to mint condition, but somehow with today's exhaust emissions standards, the cops would defect it, even though the amount of blue smoke it emitted under full acceleration was normal, as the oil was injected into the carbies via a separate oil tank. Thanks for the feedback, cheers, and ride safe...

    X-6's ROCK! I have many vintage Suzuki 2-strokes (32 total) and this is my favorite one! It has a bit narrower high-rev powerband than the T-250 that followed it, and to me this makes the bike more exciting to ride, and encourages the hooligan in you to come out in the form of wheelies (as you saw in the video). I also have a T-350 and a T-500... those bikes are marginally quicker (not that much!)... but in my opinion they are less fun to ride. Many folks don't realize that when the X-6 first came out, it was the fastest, biggest, baddest Suzuki available at the time... it literally was the "Hayabusa" of its day. A few years later, Suzuki's fastest, biggest, baddest was the T-500, then later still it was the GT-750 Le Mans... (I have one of each of these). Then along came the 4-stroke Suzuki's and the f-b-b Suzuki was the GS-750 at first but immediately followed by the GS-1000... I have a GS-1000S - the top of that generation. Fast forward and I am a Suzuki collector (as you might have gathered) and I have a Gen1 Hayabusa... it's fast enough for me! But for sheer joy, the X-6 is hard to beat!!!

    I had one just like it in 68, I love it, it would out run any Honda of the day and after I put expansion chamber pipes and single ring pistons it was a rocket. Being a two stroke it drank gas bad, maybe 25 miles to the gallon, But I loved it. They were not very dependable.

      I had a 305 Yamaha too. I loved that bike. My only disappointment was it would only go 80 mph in fourth or fifth. I tried everything I could think of to get a higher speed. Nothing worked. How fast was your 305 Yamaha and how fast was that X6? A friend's brother had an X6. He said it would go 120mph.

    A junior high school find of mine's older brother had one of these. He said it would go 120mph. I had a 305 Yamaha that would top out at 80mph in fourth gear or fifth gear. I have always wondered if that X6 would really go that fast or was the speedometer incorrect. I have ridden with some others who's speedometer read a bit higher than mine while we were riding side by side.

    Girls, why buy any ol' run o' the mill vibrator, when you can have the Rolls Royce of all vibrators when you ride a 1967 250 Suzuki. You'll barely stand 10 seconds of sitting, when you'll be up standing on those magical footrests that'll have the blood fairly coursing through those veins. And not to forget your hands, as they'll be free of arthritis, due to the vibratory massage they'll receive, as you grip the handle bars. Yes Ma'am, you can look forward to a well toned body with Suzuki's 6 speed mobile vibratorcycle...

    Oh, yeah !!!!! I rode one at a dealer and it blew my socks off. Wheelies in first 2 or 3 gears, depending. I didn't appreciate those old small displacement Japanese bikes the way I should have. Now at 75, I read a lot of Classic Motorcycles and Classic Motorcycle Machanics magazines and get my thrills that way. Had a new 1970 BMW R75/5 for 10 years........
