Such an iconic and mesmerising border mountain . Great info there mate. Apparently too there was a surveyor who got up the top in the 70’s but was stranded for a week with bad weather so he cleared a section on the summit for a helicopter rescue and landing !
Ps. Innes is a local legend with many tourist rescues on mt Barney as well
I've never heard about that surveyor story. That would be quite a tale to tell for that guy.
So sad and a great reminder to never get too comfortable whenever enjoying the outdoors, excellent video!
Thanks brother,, 👍
Tragic, yet fascinating, mate. An excellent mini-documentary.
Thanks mate.
Fantastic editing and narrating. And a testament to the climbers.
Well done 👍
Many thanks!
One of your best yet. Sad that our adventurous spirit comes with many dangers.
Sad but true. Thanks.
Wow amazing and sad. But wow great video and tribute.
That was a fascinating video. Some tragic deaths which I didn't know about even though I've seen Mt Lindesay plenty of times as I've driven out that way.
Yes, terrible tragedies
I’ve driven past Mt Lindsey hundreds of times, as I’m from Kyogle and live in Brisbane. Always wondered about people climbing it.
Love the video! Great edit and footage.
Thanks for that... Thought I'd put something together because it intrigued me also. Cheers for watching👍👍
Lucky was a mate of mine & it was surprising to see him in your video. You summed him up very well.
He was a "unique" person with an incredible amount of skill. And I'm sure he won't mind me saying that he was quite crazy.
Great video by the way.
Thanks for the comment. Yep, from what I saw, extremely skilled.
These stories was very interesting. Great job on this video aswell. R.I.P to these legends.
Much appreciated!
Very harrowing to watch John, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Luke.
Interesting. We Have a Peak Here Called Sombrero Peak, It Looks A Little Bit Like This Peak, Minus The Trees. Soon I Will Be Climbing Sombrero Peak When It Cools Down Here.
Look forward to the video. :)
Thanks for sharing ! Very well done video and it had me intrigued from start to finish.
Glad you enjoyed it, Tracy.... this was a bit more work to put together, so thanks for letting me know.
Hey John, Great Vid again Mate, makes me think of those 19th century guys the climbed the European Mountains in A tweed suit and knickerbockers, with just a hemp rope and a Tarzan grip. That mountain is safest viewed in 4k on a 60" screen. You are right, a lot of that rock is agglomerated Volcanic junk, not something I would want my Life hanging onto. And the comments below on the quality of your stuff is spot on, it's getting quite cinematic. -T-Rocks 😎
Thanks Tony.... Yep, those crazy knickerbockers!
When a mate and I tried to climb it in the 80's, we were someway up the wrong way when fortunately a couple of guys that knew, told us the Vidler story and that we were climbing the route he fell off, so we came down. We were shown the proper route, and got up without needing a rope, the vegitation was crucial for haulling on. The top is quite boring, no view, like Greville and Cordeaux. Did you photograph the summit logbook entries ? I cant remember signing in, there were alot of substances going around in them days.
John your videos are just getting better and better!! Great work!! I've noticed a couple of memorial plaques in some of the random places i explore, but i never really looked into them. You've inspired me!
When Miller passed away i was actually in Europe at the time, it got me reflecting, there i was travelling around having fun completely oblivious that a tragedy was happening for a family. I know that sort of stuff happens all the time, but it's not often you can say "I was here doing this at the time".
Thanks Andrew, appreciated. Theres often a story behind these little plaques, isn't there?
Can’t believe how thoroughly you researched, extremely well presented aswell.
Thanks for checking it out 👍👍
Such a great video and a great coverage of its history 👍
European mountaineers think that Australia has no mountains because they are small by world standards . Just because they are small it doesn’t mean that they are not hard to climb . I feel so sorry for those who lost their lives . Lucky touched my heart the most . May they all rest in peace !
Well Made. Thanks.
I found your channel via i think your first video of attempting to summit MT Lindsay! With the idea circumnavigating it to find caves! Great work 👏😎
Love the channel 👍
Cheers for that.... Much appreciated. I'll get up to the summit one day 😁
Loved this video !! Best one yet! Thank you for the information!
Thanks... Glad you enjoyed it👍👍
My understanding is such monoliths we’re referred to as “Glass House(s)” by Ship Captain / Explorer Cooke.
Well researched mate. Thank you!
Cheers for that 👍
Great video
Great episode.
Thanks for putting this together.
My pleasure.... thanks for watching!
Amazing video!! I'm not sure if you have already, but you should definitely check out Stinson's Wreck and Westray's Grave. The story is very interesting given that Bernard O'Reilly spotted a single burnt out tree on a ridge and didn't see the same tree again until he was metres away.
Cheers. I've actually got videos on my Channel where I detail the history and exactly how to get to Stinson's Wreck Site, and another one where I show what a rugged beast Stretcher Track is where they brought out the two survivors - Proud and Binstead. Stretcher Track in LNP is probably one of the most difficult tracks I have ever explored.
Dude you're on fire 🔥🔥🔥
Outstanding work! I appreciate all your videos John. Waiting for the gap in the wall video 😊
Thanks mate.... I will get to that gap in the wall soon! 😊
My dad and my grandfather climbed that decades ago with a few others. My grandfather at the time was working for the DPI and specialises in native Aus plants. He was told a rare plant was growing up the top. So he went up to get samples of the plant.
But then, not finding the plant on the peak. Asked the info source where he saw it on the peak. Source then replies. "No not Mt Lindsay Qld, Mt Lindesay WA"!
That's a funny story 🤣 Thanks for sharing it🙌
Cool video. I’m a long time hiker of Mt Barney, and heard of the deaths there, but never so fully.
Thanks for watching 👍👍
Well researched and filmed mate.
Cheers for that 👍
Very nicely told, shot and edited John - lovely drone shots too 👍 Would like to see a short vid at some point on your filming setup and Go pro settings/editing suite, which drone your using etc.. I'm guessing, its just a chest mount, mini tripod and some kind of selfie stick? I just got a gopro 11 and I've given up trying to film anything in 4K! Takes up too much space and the laptop slows to a crawl trying to edit it 😞
That's probably a good idea for a video... I'll see what I can do 😁 Yeah, editing is a very taxing process for a computer so it def needs a good CPU, large ram, SDD hard drive, and reasonable graphics card.
Really well done video 📹 👏
Glad you enjoyed it
@@jelbuilderfilms I'd love to do the base walk one day
Bloody awful but great video, sometimes it’s best to admire nature instead trying to conquer it
Very interesting. Lyle is a distant relative.
Well there you go.... Hope I did Lyle justice in my recap on this video. Thanks for commenting.
@@jelbuilderfilms
Yes, you certainly did. It was very interesting.
Lucky Chance was too reckless for this world. He was always going to die young. Sad for his family and friends.
Agreed.
Got a few friends who have climbed up and down both with and wothout ropes, even solo! Id love to attempt it oneday but as one friend said, youve gotta be comfortable to die to climb lindesay 😅 love that mountain
It's a tough mountain that for sure 👍
also a couple deaths from a bush doof party that happened in the valley just next to the mountain
That's right, drug party with a predictable ending unfortunately
Any Yowie encounters?
lucky chance wtf
it's not a mountain, it's an Ancient Tree
Explain?

This is a sacred place for my people Githabul mob know this mountain, it's very sacred to us 🙏🏾, we have lore around this place
