15000% dude!!! They seriously play Machiavellian level games with these girls. It’s all done to push narratives and make story lines. The whole show now reminds me of the movie The Island. It seems like one thing but it’s really another. The only difference is that when they’re eliminated in this show, they’re actually free.
I liked her pose, but the way it was cropped was terrible. She had her arms giving gargoyle wings and they cut of part of her wing. But based of the photos I would've picked one of the others.
I don't know if Jess has done this before but it would be so cool to see her recreate ANTM model shoot concepts! I loved how she explained how she would have done this shoot instead it would be amazing to see her ideas come to life
It also says more about his gaze than the model. Not once did I think "wow, that is a bit too spicy". Then again, I'm asexual, so maybe I don't have an eye for this kinda stuff... I dunno, I find the idea of women's bodies being inherently sexual kinda odd.
My main question is why were they even on a rooftop??? (Other than to scare models.) The final pictures didn’t reflect any of the drama or intensity of a rooftop shoot. Loved hearing your critiques - it’s so cool to hear what you would do differently! :)
This show was more about Tyra's show competing with snookie, "does wal mart sell walls" and real chance at flavor rock of love in New York, than good shots or making models
The judges telling her to take responsibility for her outfit when she literally told everyone on set her underwear would show and yet they didn’t change her is another level of egregious. I can’t with this show
It's so strange that this was a "gargoyle" shoot. When I think of humans embodying a gargoyle, I imagine a crouched or hunched form, very intimidating, primal or animalistic, almost ugly in a way. So many of the final photos are just a pretty girl standing on a building; they're basically catalog images. They could have done so much more with this shoot.
Yeah, and the styling is this slick, black with bold colors contrast and flowy fabric with it... Maybe it's supposed to be a really modern XXI century gargoyle (more conceptual than a visual reference) because of the mirrored building in the background and it's supposed to go with it..? I feel I'm putting more thought into it than anyone in it
they could have done such a cool gothic theme with the styling but nooooo😩 we had to go with the standard ANTM clashing colors/textures/silhouettes/horrendous makeup/poorly styled hair as usual😩
I love how they tell the model they could easily retouch the underwear on her photo just to validate their attack on her while on other seasons like Cycle 10 when Fatima forgot to shave her underarm, they attack her for how expensive it is to retouch her armpit hair and she should know better 😂
Even though I agree with you, I do think retouching skin naturally is a lot more costly in terms of time and effort than making some white pants black next to a bunch of other black things
That whole comment about the underwear can be made black is so bs. Cuz we all know that if she hadn't placed her arm there, they would have called her out for flashing and not covering up. which again its not the models' fault if the garment isn't covering them correctly. they could have given her black underwear to blend with the dress.
Not only that, but if Simon was making a point that the color of the underwear could be edited in post to make it black & not visible, then even showed the color corrected version to illustrate it... why the h311 didn't retouch _do that before_ judging??? Why so pointedly _leave_ the "easily color corrected" underwear noticeably white at judging, if not to intentionally embarrass her by making it a visible panty shot & public topic of discussion???
and they said the underwear could be made black, but didn't make it black? they edited the photo but left it there. like wtf dudes ya'll left it in there just to point it out and critique her on something she already said she was worried about.
Conspiracy theory: Once they got the bad shots showing the one model's underwear, Jay knew he had his bad story for the edit and cheered up for everyone else's shots cause he didn't need to try and make someone mess up anymore.
According to his book, he had to film two interviews about the girls after photoshoots: one where he talked about what the girl did really well, and one about what he thought she had trouble with, so production could pick which one they wanted to go with for the narrative of the episode. Same with the picking the photo, he'd give like 10 and they'd pick the one they want (or sometimes a different one overall). That doesn't excuse how he's interacting with the models on set, but it gives a little insight into how he can be positive or negative while they shoot then the opposite in the confessionals.
I love how Nigel says it would have just taken 5 seconds for them to make her underwear black BUT why is it still white then. If they could have done it so easily then why was it still white in the final photo??? They full-on left it because they wanted to berate her about it even though they most likely had a whole bunch of other pictures to choose from that didn't show it
Exactly!!!! Then why didn’t you do it?! And also why in other episodes do they tell them retouching is “expensive” when all they do is retouch photos. They just want to treat them badly for entertainment. I love Tyra and I used to love this show when I was younger but now I’m seeing it and realizing how problematic it is.
Saliesha was clearly pegged to be the winner of this Cycle from day 1. Tyra defending her regarding styling is so out of character; why would she have done it otherwise.
Thought the same thing!! I was late to the game learning about the Saleisha winner theory, but there's just so many little pieces of evidence like this.
Maybe it's just me, but when I work as a stylist, if I know an outfit needs a certain color underwear, or there's a chance the underwear might be seen (like in underwater shoots), I bring clean matching underwear for every outfit in my models size. Because even if I tell my models to bring certain things or wear certain things, sometimes people forget, and I don't want them to be uncomfortable. But I think that comes from having been a model myself.
It is not just you, every professional stylist is expected to have the same and any other emergency items, but they like to torment the poor girls for the show.

You NEED to watch Season 14 episode 1(a longer than usual episode, the part you need to see is toward the end) where the girls all have to pick ONE article of clothing to model in and be nude otherwise. You’re obviously editing all the pictures so why wasn’t that one of the edits you made and kept for the final photo? Oh right because they intentionally wanted her to be embarrassed by it and call out to them her discomfort about her underwear showing so she can be made out to look high maintenance or problematic or she wasn’t trying hard enough or something instead of them knowingly doing this on purpose
The outfits and background matching the theme wouldve also probably helped the models pose better. Like take the vampire bathtub shoot compared to this one. It was still kinda out there cuz of the bathtub but they filled it with blood and gave them the colored lenses iirc. With this, they couldve found an older part of the city, filmed in the early morning and got a fog machine and i feel like it wouldve been 1000X better even if they didnt change the outfits

Exactly. Nothing about the styling, angle, background, atmosphere, etc. said "these models represent gargoyles". (I couldn't quite put my finger on what all of that did say to me until Jessica said "corporate" and then yes, it was totally a corporate shot, posed carefully in front of the company building, just in "high fashion" attire...) Your suggestions for location change and fog machine already would make the shot a million times better. It's like putting the girls in swimsuits in a freezer and then telling them to pose as supermarket vegetables. ... which I'm kind of surprised they haven't done yet, actually.
Even if they could photoshop the underwear color, the fact that they had her wear and/or do these poses in white underwear of all colors shows just how much calculation goes into these photoshoots from beginning to end.
I don't think they were ever given underwear. I remember a girl getting called out for not wearing nude underwear on a go-see or catwalk episode or something.
Your theory is totally right, they just want to cause drama for the show and don't care what it does to the girl's mental state. I feel bad for the girls that were set up as the "mean girl" because I've heard of people recognizing them off the show and treating them like they're a bad person. In reality they're a nice person, but since the show framed them as "the b****", now people think that's who the girl is. Also side note, your hair and makeup look fabulous today 😍
Him criticising Ebony for saying "fine" seems like another lose lose situation for her. If she would've spoke more he would've complained about her being too chatty and unprofessional and if she would have complained about something he woulda used that against her and say she brought down the mood or something.

I like the loose material used for the gargoyle concept. Gargoyles usually are depicted with wings, and the loose light fabric flowing around behind them gave them that villainy, creature-y vibe but not everyone had that. There was some pretty cool potential in this theme but the stylist didn’t reach it
I remember this photoshoot! Heather got flak from the judges for taking so many pics in profile. The next episide, she went out of her way to take a full shoot where she looks straight at the camera.

I still can’t get over them doing these extensive setups and then having a close up shot with none of the background showing. I was so hopeful when I started the video and then was like…figures, when they showed the photos at the judging 🙄
Right? They could have filmed on the ground in a corporate plaza with a building in the background to get the same shot for less effort.... Why get a whole setup on the corner of a roof of a tall building and then crop out all of that background? Ridiculous!

conspiracy theory: the photos were originally going to be edited to look more greyish, like a gargoyle, but when the one model expressed concern about her underwear showing, production decided to keep the photos in full colour for some extra drama.
I love watching these because you're showing it's not just about the models in getting a good picture! You're pointing out differences that the photographer and director could have made and it makes so much sense!
That’s such a contradiction about the underwear. I recall them giving a girl so much crap for having 3 stray hairs in her under arms because they had to photoshop it out.
I love how protective you always are of the girls; one thing that always bugged me about this show was how they were the ones always getting blamed for bad photographs, when most of the time, they get absolutely no feedback for how they can make them look better. A lot of the girls have no modeling experience whatsoever prior to coming onto the show, yet they're expected to turn out expert-level poses without any direction at all, and then they don't, it's their fault.
Jessica, please react to the head scarve photoshoot on cycle 13. That is probably one of the best photoshoots in ANTM history, most of the models delivered and TYRA shoots it. And also in the photoshoot, Tyra faces difficulties shooting one model and puts her in the bottom two for that!
Did you ever saw the episodes where Fatima on season 10 has problems with her passport or the one where she didn't shave her armpits? Would love to see your comments about that!

"Who looked at a gargoyle and thought we need to make it high fashion." Have you ever seen Disney's Gargoyles? It was an animated tv show. It was awesome. Could absolutely see models done up in makeup to look like that.
I think this photoshoot could be better if the styling was consistent with pants and more edgy kinda "rocky" elements. It could give the girls more room to pose and actually look like gargoyles. And they should edit the photos to more dark and less saturated to really give the feel they said they wanted
You’re spot on about this! Feel like the photographer should have featured more of the city. Would have liked to see the models placed more in the setting of the cityscape especially given this shot’s inspiration. As you said, it’s hard to tell they are even on a ledge
The way they gaslit Lisa is despicable. Almost made her cry, trying to start a fuss with the girls, and then called her first. This show is messy on another level.
They absolutely ask for their fears when having them fill out paperwork. This is always done for ratings, nothing more. I also think she choose "scary" things to try to create a negative response from the contestants, like having them pose with snakes, spiders, cockroaches, bees, etc. I can't remember if you've done the video yet, but I'm still angry about making the women in the Brits cycle pose on a skyscraper in wind and rain.

I would like for you to review the photoshoot where Ebony decides to leave the competition, during judging. I want to know your take on how they handled it. Ebony reminds me of my cousin just her temperament & mannerism . She is an introvert/shy and she comes off as uninterested and stuck up o.o but that's not the case.
Or even shooting on a stone building resembling a cathedral. I'm not sure about the appropriateness of shooting on an actual cathedral in hindsight🧐 are there structures that aren't churches that bare gargoyles?? More research is needed....🤔

I'm having a hard time and I was so happy to see you posted because I knew it would cheer me up a bit. Thank you for creating uplifting content! 🙂 I love hearing your perspective as a photographer! I was obsessed with this show as a kid and it was terribly toxic and incredibly damaging for me, but your perspective gives it a whole new and better context! Also, I remember tyra telling those of us with gummy smiles to put rolled up toilet paper under our top lip, that way "no one would be able to tell." Good lord, I did it and it was tragic and ridiculously obvious!! I guess at least she wasn't doing that anymore at this point, but I get why that girl would be so anxious to let Tyra of all people see! Btws, she has a beautiful smile. But Tyra was out here creating complexes and then being upset when girls had complexes!
The fact that they cropped it at their feet with no view of the city just showed that they simply wanted to scare them. They could've done this shoot in a parking lot or a green screen.

Hey, Jessica, they did the same to Bianca during a challenge when they went to China with the fear of heights thing. They had to pose in the air by literally man power, roughly about five men pulling the wires to pull the women in the air. I just ought to tell you. EDIT: because of this fear, Bianca refused to do it and got disqualified for it because she said 'No, I do not want to do it/that challenge'
I remember this episode and when they said gargoyle theme, I was expecting night/dusk time because there was a show called gargoyles when they're stone by day, alive at night. This shoot underwhelmed me.
Haha Jessica I would TOTALLY lie on the application form and put everything I LOVE on it instead of what I hate! 😂 then it would come up and I’d be like ‘WOW I love this!! It's always exciting to see a new video by Jessica! I suggest you take a look at the Wonderbra photoshoot from cycle 1 (it's episode 6 I think), because the pictures are horrendous: awful composition, terrible lighting, few of them actually show the bra (not the girls' fault by the way...), it's just a hot mess.
Oh my word one of the worst photo shoots of the series. Elyse didn’t even have a very good shot. It makes me wonder about if the photographer just didn’t do a good job. I would be interested in her take. Because yeah you can’t even see the product with a lot of them and as novices they definitely needed more direction unless that was what Michel told them to do

@@kodamaspirit9298 I’m a bit rusty on photographic analysis, what about the composition is bad? I mean I mostly see a very dated and simplistic setup. Too much saturation and smoothing: the model’s skin almost looks plastic! Also I think they were trying to get the Eiffel Tower in the background… not where my eye goes at all
@@MalloryNewcomb Oh, I'd have to look at the photos again, and bear in mind, I'm in no way a top photographer! But on top of what you said (too much saturation for instance), if I remember correctly, the eye wasn't drawn at all to either the models or the product, both because of composition and lighting, and yup, exactly as you said, the Eiffel tower seemed almost irrelevant.

I agree, the styling wasn’t great. I personally think doing a menswear inspired styling with a black, white and grey color palette would’ve been amazing. I just keep thinking like slick backed hair and more gender neutral make up/ clothing would’ve given the models more freedom to move and would’ve fit the “gargoyle” aesthetic more than the styling they went with.
The photos look like they were shot in a blank bkgd room and photoshopped on a building stock img… the girls poses would’ve been so much cooler on their own imo

For all the criticizing the judges do, the photographers and stylists on the show don't always do a good job either. I mean we look at actual fashion shoots and editorials and they are STUNNING and here on ANTM half the time either the photos are cropped weird or edited weird or has strange, unphysical lighting. And that takes so much away from the truly amazing job the girls did.

✌️✨Hey, recently I’ve been watching Germany’s Next Top Model and I was actually shocked after watching your videos of ANTM. So in s9 ep4 there was a girl who was missing her baby boy and husband so much so she decided to quit the show. And Heidi Klum said that she understands her, she doesn’t want her to leave and that she’ll have her son and husband fly there so that she wouldn’t leave the show. ✨I also really liked the point of the episode. It was all about being healthy and fit. They were training a lot and they actually showed a simple healthy burger recipe so it was pretty cool. ✨Another thing is that Heidi actually takes part in many photo shoots and videos so she actually shows girls how it’s done. Not like Tyra… Heidi and the photographers are also very nice and helpful to the girls. ✨The new season also is pretty amazing. There’re older women and plus size models. I really suggest checking it out. If they have English subtitles.✌️😊
Also if photoshop is an option, why wouldn't she be told that during the photoshoot? Sounds like this would be miscommunication on their part, not hers

The way it was lit and shot reminds me of early 2000s Spiderman posters where Spiderman is photoshopped onto the side of a building. It looks fake, which is strange since there was an actual building there.
I think, it could've been interesting to totally reverse what they did and have them on a platform in front of a green screen with a fan. The lesson would then be to try and pose like you're in the environment when you're really in a studio- that's how a lot of photoshoots are actually done anyways.

the most messed up episode I remember seeing is when they had Nyle DiMarco, who is deaf, be in a pitch-black environment where he had to wait for an audio cue to know when to pose. During the judging, they got on him for looking lost and confused. It was so messed up.

Solely to create drama for any model afraid of heights. ANTM is a tv show. The photos are secondary. Priorities.

@@marlyd as a designer who uses photoshop removing small hair details is pretty easy
As a designer there is literally zero extra cost to edit.
It's very clear nothing from this show is rooted in principles, or expertise

That whole comment about the underwear can be made black is so bs. Cuz we all know that if she hadn't placed her arm there, they would have called her out for flashing and not covering up. which again its not the models' fault if the garment isn't covering them correctly. they could have given her black underwear to blend with the dress.
This is why i hate fashion, the dressing work i did for fashion was infinitely more stressful and disorganised than theatre
Not only that, but if Simon was making a point that the color of the underwear could be edited in post to make it black & not visible, then even showed the color corrected version to illustrate it... why the h311 didn't retouch _do that before_ judging???
Why so pointedly _leave_ the "easily color corrected" underwear noticeably white at judging, if not to intentionally embarrass her by making it a visible panty shot & public topic of discussion???
Aso, every stylist has in their kit different colored underwear and socks, bobby pins, etc.

Conspiracy theory: Once they got the bad shots showing the one model's underwear, Jay knew he had his bad story for the edit and cheered up for everyone else's shots cause he didn't need to try and make someone mess up anymore.

According to his book, he had to film two interviews about the girls after photoshoots: one where he talked about what the girl did really well, and one about what he thought she had trouble with, so production could pick which one they wanted to go with for the narrative of the episode. Same with the picking the photo, he'd give like 10 and they'd pick the one they want (or sometimes a different one overall). That doesn't excuse how he's interacting with the models on set, but it gives a little insight into how he can be positive or negative while they shoot then the opposite in the confessionals.
Jay manuel might not be the best person in the world but I personally like him a lot

I love how Nigel says it would have just taken 5 seconds for them to make her underwear black BUT why is it still white then. If they could have done it so easily then why was it still white in the final photo??? They full-on left it because they wanted to berate her about it even though they most likely had a whole bunch of other pictures to choose from that didn't show it
Exactly!!!! Then why didn’t you do it?! And also why in other episodes do they tell them retouching is “expensive” when all they do is retouch photos. They just want to treat them badly for entertainment. I love Tyra and I used to love this show when I was younger but now I’m seeing it and realizing how problematic it is.
Saliesha was clearly pegged to be the winner of this Cycle from day 1. Tyra defending her regarding styling is so out of character; why would she have done it otherwise.
She was also chosen from a Tyra youth modelling camp so they handpicked her before auditions

Maybe it's just me, but when I work as a stylist, if I know an outfit needs a certain color underwear, or there's a chance the underwear might be seen (like in underwater shoots), I bring clean matching underwear for every outfit in my models size. Because even if I tell my models to bring certain things or wear certain things, sometimes people forget, and I don't want them to be uncomfortable. But I think that comes from having been a model myself.
It is not just you, every professional stylist is expected to have the same and any other emergency items, but they like to torment the poor girls for the show.

You’re obviously editing all the pictures so why wasn’t that one of the edits you made and kept for the final photo? Oh right because they intentionally wanted her to be embarrassed by it and call out to them her discomfort about her underwear showing so she can be made out to look high maintenance or problematic or she wasn’t trying hard enough or something instead of them knowingly doing this on purpose
The outfits and background matching the theme wouldve also probably helped the models pose better. Like take the vampire bathtub shoot compared to this one. It was still kinda out there cuz of the bathtub but they filled it with blood and gave them the colored lenses iirc. With this, they couldve found an older part of the city, filmed in the early morning and got a fog machine and i feel like it wouldve been 1000X better even if they didnt change the outfits

Exactly. Nothing about the styling, angle, background, atmosphere, etc. said "these models represent gargoyles". (I couldn't quite put my finger on what all of that did say to me until Jessica said "corporate" and then yes, it was totally a corporate shot, posed carefully in front of the company building, just in "high fashion" attire...) Your suggestions for location change and fog machine already would make the shot a million times better.
It's like putting the girls in swimsuits in a freezer and then telling them to pose as supermarket vegetables.

Even if they could photoshop the underwear color, the fact that they had her wear and/or do these poses in white underwear of all colors shows just how much calculation goes into these photoshoots from beginning to end.

I don't think they were ever given underwear. I remember a girl getting called out for not wearing nude underwear on a go-see or catwalk episode or something.
Your theory is totally right, they just want to cause drama for the show and don't care what it does to the girl's mental state. I feel bad for the girls that were set up as the "mean girl" because I've heard of people recognizing them off the show and treating them like they're a bad person. In reality they're a nice person, but since the show framed them as "the b****", now people think that's who the girl is. Also side note, your hair and makeup look fabulous today 😍
Him criticising Ebony for saying "fine" seems like another lose lose situation for her. If she would've spoke more he would've complained about her being too chatty and unprofessional and if she would have complained about something he woulda used that against her and say she brought down the mood or something.

I struggle so much with insecurities & my husband is really trying to encourage to branch out from hoodies and sweats. I like the loose material used for the gargoyle concept. Gargoyles usually are depicted with wings, and the loose light fabric flowing around behind them gave them that villainy, creature-y vibe but not everyone had that. There was some pretty cool potential in this theme but the stylist didn’t reach it
I remember this photoshoot! Heather got flak from the judges for taking so many pics in profile. The next episide, she went out of her way to take a full shoot where she looks straight at the camera.

That’s such a contradiction about the underwear. I recall them giving a girl so much crap for having 3 stray hairs in her under arms because they had to photoshop it out.

I love how protective you always are of the girls; one thing that always bugged me about this show was how they were the ones always getting blamed for bad photographs, when most of the time, they get absolutely no feedback for how they can make them look better. A lot of the girls have no modeling experience whatsoever prior to coming onto the show, yet they're expected to turn out expert-level poses without any direction at all, and then they don't, it's their fault.
Jessica, please react to the head scarve photoshoot on cycle 13. That is probably one of the best photoshoots in ANTM history, most of the models delivered and TYRA shoots it. And also in the photoshoot, Tyra faces difficulties shooting one model and puts her in the bottom two for that!

Have you ever seen Disney's Gargoyles? It was an animated tv show. It was awesome. Could absolutely see models done up in makeup to look like that.
I think this photoshoot could be better if the styling was consistent with pants and more edgy kinda "rocky" elements. It could give the girls more room to pose and actually look like gargoyles. And they should edit the photos to more dark and less saturated to really give the feel they said they wanted
You’re spot on about this! Feel like the photographer should have featured more of the city. Would have liked to see the models placed more in the setting of the cityscape especially given this shot’s inspiration. As you said, it’s hard to tell they are even on a ledge
The way they gaslit Lisa is despicable. Almost made her cry, trying to start a fuss with the girls, and then called her first. This show is messy on another level.
They absolutely ask for their fears when having them fill out paperwork. This is always done for ratings, nothing more. I also think she choose "scary" things to try to create a negative response from the contestants, like having them pose with snakes, spiders, cockroaches, bees, etc. I can't remember if you've done the video yet, but I'm still angry about making the women in the Brits cycle pose on a skyscraper in wind and rain.

I would like for you to review the photoshoot where Ebony decides to leave the competition, during judging. I want to know your take on how they handled it. Ebony reminds me of my cousin just her temperament & mannerism . She is an introvert/shy and she comes off as uninterested and stuck up o.o but that's not the case.
They should have shot on an actual cathedral that had actual gargoyles
Or even shooting on a stone building resembling a cathedral. I'm not sure about the appropriateness of shooting on an actual cathedral in hindsight🧐 are there structures that aren't churches that bare gargoyles?? More research is needed....🤔

I love hearing your perspective as a photographer! I was obsessed with this show as a kid and it was terribly toxic and incredibly damaging for me, but your perspective gives it a whole new and better context!
Also, I remember tyra telling those of us with gummy smiles to put rolled up toilet paper under our top lip, that way "no one would be able to tell." Good lord, I did it and it was tragic and ridiculously obvious!! I guess at least she wasn't doing that anymore at this point, but I get why that girl would be so anxious to let Tyra of all people see! Btws, she has a beautiful smile. But Tyra was out here creating complexes and then being upset when girls had complexes!

Hey, Jessica, they did the same to Bianca during a challenge when they went to China with the fear of heights thing. They had to pose in the air by literally man power, roughly about five men pulling the wires to pull the women in the air. I just ought to tell you.
EDIT: because of this fear, Bianca refused to do it and got disqualified for it because she said 'No, I do not want to do it/that challenge'

I remember this episode and when they said gargoyle theme, I was expecting night/dusk time because there was a show called gargoyles when they're stone by day, alive at night. This shoot underwhelmed me.
Haha Jessica I would TOTALLY lie on the application form and put everything I LOVE on it instead of what I hate! 😂 then it would come up and I’d be like ‘WOW I love this!! And the producers would be like : what this is messing up the storyline and I’d be like yeah since I filled out that form I’ve overcome all my fears and now I love them!’ 🤣🤣

It's always exciting to see a new video by Jessica! I suggest you take a look at the Wonderbra photoshoot from cycle 1 (it's episode 6 I think), because the pictures are horrendous: awful composition, terrible lighting, few of them actually show the bra (not the girls' fault by the way...), it's just a hot mess.
Oh my word one of the worst photo shoots of the series. Elyse didn’t even have a very good shot. It makes me wonder about if the photographer just didn’t do a good job. I would be interested in her take. Because yeah you can’t even see the product with a lot of them and as novices they definitely needed more direction unless that was what Michel told them to do

@@kodamaspirit9298 I’m a bit rusty on photographic analysis, what about the composition is bad? I mean I mostly see a very dated and simplistic setup. Too much saturation and smoothing: the model’s skin almost looks plastic!
Also I think they were trying to get the Eiffel Tower in the background… not where my eye goes at all
@@MalloryNewcomb Oh, I'd have to look at the photos again, and bear in mind, I'm in no way a top photographer! But on top of what you said (too much saturation for instance), if I remember correctly, the eye wasn't drawn at all to either the models or the product, both because of composition and lighting, and yup, exactly as you said, the Eiffel tower seemed almost irrelevant.
I've always been impressed with your makeup skills but today the eye makeup is just *chef's kiss*

I agree, the styling wasn’t great. I personally think doing a menswear inspired styling with a black, white and grey color palette would’ve been amazing. I just keep thinking like slick backed hair and more gender neutral make up/ clothing would’ve given the models more freedom to move and would’ve fit the “gargoyle” aesthetic more than the styling they went with.

For all the criticizing the judges do, the photographers and stylists on the show don't always do a good job either. I mean we look at actual fashion shoots and editorials and they are STUNNING and here on ANTM half the time either the photos are cropped weird or edited weird or has strange, unphysical lighting. And that takes so much away from the truly amazing job the girls did.

✌️✨Hey, recently I’ve been watching Germany’s Next Top Model and I was actually shocked after watching your videos of ANTM. So in s9 ep4 there was a girl who was missing her baby boy and husband so much so she decided to quit the show. And Heidi Klum said that she understands her, she doesn’t want her to leave and that she’ll have her son and husband fly there so that she wouldn’t leave the show.
✨I also really liked the point of the episode. It was all about being healthy and fit. They were training a lot and they actually showed a simple healthy burger recipe so it was pretty cool.
✨Another thing is that Heidi actually takes part in many photo shoots and videos so she actually shows girls how it’s done. Not like Tyra… Heidi and the photographers are also very nice and helpful to the girls.
✨The new season also is pretty amazing. There’re older women and plus size models. I really suggest checking it out. If they have English subtitles.✌️😊

I think, it could've been interesting to totally reverse what they did and have them on a platform in front of a green screen with a fan. The lesson would then be to try and pose like you're in the environment when you're really in a studio- that's how a lot of photoshoots are actually done anyways.

the most messed up episode I remember seeing is when they had Nyle DiMarco, who is deaf, be in a pitch-black environment where he had to wait for an audio cue to know when to pose. During the judging, they got on him for looking lost and confused. It was so messed up.
They only selected him for the show because of his disability, knowing they could use that for a storyline.
