She kind of forced you to look at her, and isn't that what a model is supposed to do? I'm no expert, but if their aim is to get people to tear the page out of the magazine and hang it on a wall, for me that would actually be the picture I'd pick.
Yep, I remember this one. Why did they have to set the cars on fire?! Forgot to mention: Heather from this cycle? She was a fan fave cuz they made a real point to talk about her autism (Asperger's Syndrome).
I always thought it was weird how they discouraged posing. Don’t pose but ima need you to pose …. don’t pose just show me fabulosity without posing, while posing. 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
Comparing how smiley Ambreal was when she was leaving to how Tiffany left in her season, I understand even less why Tyra went off on Tiffany when she tried to leave with a smile. Was it because Lisa had already supplied the tears for this episode and she wanted Tiffany to leave broken and defeated instead of in her jovial jokey way? Anyway . . . Thanks for another great ANTM roast, Jessica!
I must say, Mr. Jay did really well on this photoshoot. He directed the model to look like she’s lost in the desert, the model was lost. He directed the model to look frustrated in the desert, the model went frustrated.
The girls were all so beautiful in that shoot, but composition-wise I don't think they did them any justice. The setting is quite the uninspired idea but it could have been done a lot more interestingly. They have those gorgeous girls, a good light-setup, a completely clear blue sky and a burning car and yet the photos look boring to me. And those that actually go with the "story" of the shoot get rosted. Also annoying that they, as always, held the instructions they gave to the models against them at the judging panel. "Show us desperation" Model does. "You don't show the cloths, that was the focus." Well then tell the girls?? In all the ANTM reacts it's always plain clear that they fault the girls for things that were not even their job. "I don't like the lighting in that picture and you, as a model should have paid attention." Uhm, no.
For the car, they probably gutted anything that would be dangerous if ignited. But having models in the burning sun in the heat next to a fire, debatable.
@loveutilltheendoftimes absolutely, yes, safety of performers and crew is always paramount. I’m a costume designer in theater, and safety is always first, second, and third. The car is definitely specially intended for pyrotechnics, because only someone rated in pyrotechnics is legally allowed to set things on fire or explode things on any kind of set. If employee (any kind, in any business) safety didn’t matter, OSHA wouldn’t exist. Unions wouldn’t have been founded. Fire Marshall’s wouldn’t be the bane of every theater’s existence.
@loveutill theendoftimes Adhering to safety standards is not "parenting" the adult models. Adults aren't immune to danger. There are power dynamics in play, which makes even very capable adults feel like they can't or shouldn't speak up for themselves, exact because people like you will think they're wanting to be "coddled". Heat stroke, dehydration, sun poisoning are all very dangerous. They're in an already very hot environment, standing next to a fire, with lights flashing or shining at them. Add the stress of a TV set and the pressure of performing well, and a mode can easily push themselves past their limit. And yeah may they have medics on set, but how far away are they from the nearest hospital? We put safety standards in place to prevent it from ever getting to the point where it could be that dangerous, especially if there's no practical need for that danger to be present to get a good photo.
let's forget the fire for a moment and pretend that they ar far away from the flames, what about the smoke? It can't be safe to breathe RIGHT NEXT TO A CAR ON FIRE!
Criticism is something you have to deal with. It’s supposed to be constructive, not mocking something, insulting them and yelling at them. What they did was try to label it as criticism but it’s really just people being unprofessional and reckless with their words and attitudes
I saw the thumbnail and I was like, "Please tell me that's not a real fire. Knowing this show it definitely is." I click and what do I see? Inexperienced models being forced to pose next to a flaming car!
Your commentary is hilarious to me but it’s so sad how they were treated and me just now realizing it is , I watched this when I was younger and I never was consciously aware of all the manipulation emotionally physically and psychologically, it’s sickening and sad smh.
"is it safe?" never on ANTM 😂 however, it's kind of frustrating to see what they put these girls through when 90% of the time most models won't ever be cast for extreme model shoots. They will also never be given 2 different directions during the shoot as J did for the car on fire shoot. They dont need to be roasted at every turn, That does not help them become better. constructive criticism though is always a wonderful thing because that hopefully will help them rethink poses, expressions, feelings, and how to better work with the crew.
The conversation about needing to compartmentalize was so out of place especially because the model they were speaking to, Heather, was open about being on the autism spectrum. It’s well documented that people with different forms of autism struggle reacting to criticism and moving past it. I think given the context, having that critique for Heather was unfair. It’s hard for everybody to take constructive criticism and move forward but to expect her to act like it has no effect of her is unrealistic.
I am AMAZED watching this as a woman now I realize how SUPER inconsistent the judges were it's like no no win situation! I'd be PISSED if I had to go through all this on national TV.

“We’re allowed to be abusive and expect you to be so devoid of self esteem that you gladly accept us trash talking you. It should be inspirational to you.”
The focus is always assumed to be on the clothing unless it’s a specific accessory to be modeled. ANTM modeling is always supposed to for commercial work. It doesn’t make it ok- but it’s always part of it.
If people think models dealing with rude people, having to get screamed at, suck it up, and then go do a job is cruel... wait till you hear about customer service....
I love your channel and reactions. I went to college with one of the girls on the show, and I heard stories. This particular shoot is actually making me think 🤔... first, I'd never ever be FRUSTRATED next to a burning car, let alone one in the desert. I'd be running as far and fast as possible. Jay saying the models need to look lost and frustrated next to a burning vehicle in a desert is ridiculous. I'd never look at their outfits, I'd wonder what their survival training was lol! Wtf....
Watching this show back I;m like wow this show is wild! When I watched this show I was very young and didn't see all the manipulation in the show that I do now. Like how are they supposed to sell a article of clothing while trying to not catch on fire, and not pass out from heat stroke. These concepts for these photo shoots were so far out and crazy!
I notice that they always kick off the girl who's more confident or will stand their ground. Which is honestly really sad. They made a career of making fun of insecure people or those with low self esteem and marketed it as fashion. 🤮
you know how in school teachers would grade papers based on a rubrik like... they had a chart and the top has all the stuff required and as it goes down you only hit some of the points you needed to or whatever they need that desperately on this show and only judge what the model can control (so not lighting or the style of clothes or makeup or whatever else, or their bodies besides posing)
I loved Heather SO MUCH from that season! One, she’s GORGEOUS! and two, she’s got Asperger’s. So this was a very difficult situation for her socially, im sure. And to put up with how horrible the judges and team are, she was so incredible and strong and such an inspiration for anyone who is maybe a little awkward or mentally different like myself and plenty of others! She was the fan favorite almost every week too! Truly a beautiful inspiration! I wonder what she’s doing now in 2022.
Next time on: is this safe? The models shoot underwater with blood and baits surrounded by starving sharks while holding a toaster connected to the boat’s engine
Compartmentalizing is literally a common coping mechanism for trauma victims. So. Tyra says, “I use a survival tactic for my trauma; so when I put you through new trauma, use my unhealthy coping mechanism and get over the trauma I’m causing you. She’s an abuser. This is abuse.
Are we not going to talk about how the pose at 14:57 was exactly what Jay wanted when he demonstrated to that girl “I want you desperate like this…” and did the EXACT same pose.
I had a classmate who was in the Dutch version of the next top model. She told me that before the filming started she already knew she was going to leave the show as the 4th girl of the show.
I used to watch ANTM, and I eventually became convinced that they wanted someone who was versatile enough to adapt to all kinds of Photoshopping. Granted, I realize that most professional photographs have some form of airbrushing or filtering to make the subject more flattering. But I mean ANTM seemed to consistently Photoshop the top contestants as, after a while, I couldn’t tell the differences between the models because their features amalgamated in the resulting altered photos.
There's such a trend with the directors harassing the models and then some models getting roasted for poses they're asked to be in lol. These poor women!
What Tyra says about perspective and legs looking shorter when going straight towards the camera makes sense, but if you look at the back cover of Alice Cooper’s Love It To Death album, Neal Smith’s legs are going straight towards the camera and they look longer than me. (And I’m not sure it was even done on purpose)
Loved the video! Might worth knowing that at the judging panel when they announced the girls were going to China, those were not “dragons” it’s a Lion dance - a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries usually performed during the Chinese New Year + other cultural and religious festivals :)
Other shoots of potential interest for this cycle - - - the side of smoking (their 1st shoot), which led Tyra to inform them of a smoking ban for that season. -the recycle materials photoshoot (who one model, Eboni, quits after a girl, is eliminated) Also, the first they did an international reveal at judging, with a “wild” photoshoot.
they did that 3rd girl dirty on purpose she wasnt bent over with her hands on her knees as a pose she was just frustrated between shots and he decided to take that pic i knew for a fact when i heard the camera go off when she did that during the shoot that it was going to be her "best picture"
I totally agree with you about how they judge the pics without telling the models what the focus or expectations are! They are setting them up to fail and they aren't judging fairly

@@mjwellsccl I have ADHD too. English is my second language, so I'm not always up to date in the terminology.
@@IzzysTravelDiaries that's why I wanted to make sure you knew it was just an informative reply because you never know someone's situation. I do like your comment. We are too often expected to act neurotypical for the benefit of neurotypicals.
That is called masking, btw
I really enjoy that you’re just descended into fully roasting ANTM right back
I live for this and Luxeria's america's next top SCANDAL GIRLS!!!
Me being 5’1” I always think about elongating my legs in photos because of my secondhand trauma from growing up watching this show lol
Yeah I'm not even 5 foot and they had a short girl cycle where the shortest girl was like 5"4.
Lol!!!
Lmao omg same!
Every time a model gets the “you’re posing too much, it’s too ‘pose-y’” comment I get whiplash like.. you mean the literal physical verb/action of the job?? You’re mad they’re doing their job??
Often when they say that, they mean it doesn’t look natural or isn’t really conveying the story they may be hoping to be portrayed in the photograph. Natural, fluid movements with subtle changes come across more believable like the camera just stumbled upon this scene.
@@rdotjpg5864 thank you. I’m not a model or a photographer and I always understood that when they say that they mean it looks FORCED.
@@rdotjpg5864 Exactly. And, it's the same with Acting. When someone says that an actor is acting too much, it means they aren't natural. It makes perfect sense, but people are too blinded by the bandwagon hate.
“I want you to do literally what you would do if you were lost in this desert with a burning car.”
Who tf us staying by the burning car? I have seen too many movies. If my car bursts into flame, I’m getting far away from it
if mr jay asked me to just do what I'd literally do in this situation, I'd lie down on the ground and simply accept my fate, waiting for the sand to take me
Best comment.
Lying in the shade of the car, not wasting energy might actually be a good idea - well, if the car isn't burning xD
I would run from that car cuz i would think it can explode any second now cuz its on fire O.o
@@beansprout6266 don't worry. normal cars rarely ever explode, they only do that in movies because BUMM-is-good.
@@Nico6th ooo i see movies lied to me O.O
Jay yelled at Heather for doing the same pose that he showed Saleisha she should be doing. Ridiculous
why is tyra always talking about herself? she is very pleased with herself.
the assessment of the models is not objective at all.
Because she's a narcisist?
Sounds like it...
Tbh, the picture of Ambreal was actually the only one that made me really look at her as a model, and think: wow, I want to be her. She kind of forced you to look at her, and isn't that what a model is supposed to do?
I'm no expert, but if their aim is to get people to tear the page out of the magazine and hang it on a wall, for me that would actually be the picture I'd pick.
So true. That was my favorite of the photos
Tyra’s speech was how to be toxic 101. “Just don’t have feelings lmao” rude.
“It’s not about you Tyra”
😂😂😂
She’d always try and find a way to make every situation about herself.
"You know what I find inspirational? My cat. And the fact that she still meows at me even though I fed her." I'm dead. Lol
Yep, I remember this one.
Why did they have to set the cars on fire?!
Forgot to mention: Heather from this cycle? She was a fan fave cuz they made a real point to talk about her autism (Asperger's Syndrome).
I think the concept of shoot is nice and something that could be interpreted in different ways depending on how the model poses and how its shot.
don't forget how she was mistreatred
Heather was one of my top three to win, she's stunning
I always thought it was weird how they discouraged posing. Don’t pose but ima need you to pose …. don’t pose just show me fabulosity without posing, while posing. 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
They mean it looks obviously fake when they say 'posing' in these situations. They want natural movement.
@Piппed by Jessica kobeissi girl or boy: stop. You are not the real Jessica. Stop spamming. @Jessica Kobeissi please help 🙂
I would actually love to watch a whole video or series of ‘ANTM - Is This Safe?’
The segway to that promo was chef's kiss 😂 the editing on this one, calling out Mr Jay was brilliant!
"They're literally roasting the girls"
I'm dead
For the car, they probably gutted anything that would be dangerous if ignited. But having models in the burning sun in the heat next to a fire, debatable.
In reflective dresses
@loveutill theendoftimes How is basic safety "cuddling" or "parenting"?
@loveutill theendoftimes No real professional clients gonna risk their models' safety for something that can be easily photoshopped
Pleeeeeeeeeeease react to the Rodeo Drive photoshoot in cycle 15 with patrick demarchelier
OH DEAR GOD, THEY GOT PATRICK?!
yessss please!
@@skyefirenails yep!
@@skyefirenails Yes, like Miranda Priestly.
Criticism is something you have to deal with. It’s supposed to be constructive, not mocking something, insulting them and yelling at them. What they did was try to label it as criticism but it’s really just people being unprofessional and reckless with their words and attitudes
I wish Ambreal had grabbed the keys and driven off whilst flipping the bird at Mr Jay
LMFAO thank you for this imagery
Please react to the “crumping” photo shoot. It’s so hilariously cringey
Omg that shit was awful!
oh god my mind had erased that
Oh my word. It hurts to even think about. So awful.
I love how you roast the judges in behalf on the girls. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tyra: "go cry in a locker room. Not on our time biish"
I saw the thumbnail and I was like, "Please tell me that's not a real fire. Knowing this show it definitely is." I click and what do I see? Inexperienced models being forced to pose next to a flaming car!
"I go to pari- have you ever heard of paris?"
i love ur subtle dry humor so much
Thank you so much for doing one of my requests, really appreciated it.
Can't wait to watch this reaction video from ANTM. ❤️❤️❤️
Your commentary is hilarious to me but it’s so sad how they were treated and me just now realizing it is , I watched this when I was younger and I never was consciously aware of all the manipulation emotionally physically and psychologically, it’s sickening and sad smh.
It honestly feels a bit like workplace bullying sometimes, what these girls go through. And then they're expected to just deal with it.
we said "it's not about you tyra" at the same time 🤣
"is it safe?"
never on ANTM 😂
however, it's kind of frustrating to see what they put these girls through when 90% of the time most models won't ever be cast for extreme model shoots.
Wow. I can relate. I'm on the autism spectrum and I don't often take criticism very well (depending on the situation).
I am AMAZED watching this as a woman now I realize how SUPER inconsistent the judges were it's like no no win situation! I'd be PISSED if I had to go through all this on national TV.
yaaaaay a new jessica vid! already made my day that much better 💗 hope you’re doing well, thank you for your uploads and creating content that makes me smile
ANTM either taught aspiring artistic directors what not to do...or some of them got their feelings hurt when they actually had to WORK for a living.
it would be so fun to see you edit some of the photos from these photo shoots to show how you would’ve done it
I’ve been rewatching the series and loving your videos. Here are some requests:
Cycle 9 Episode 4 The models represent plants. 🪴
Cycle 10 Episode 6 The models represent music genres. 🎶
Cycle 12 Episode 5 The models represent colors. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Dude thank you for reacting to these episodes. You're the best!
Honestly what I learned from all these videos is that a lot of times it seems it's not the models fault.. It's the creative director/photographer's fault photos come out bad
Mr. Jay out here moving the goalpost lol
But isnt being to commercial on this show a bad thing? They are supposed to be cotour models
@@kelsey2333 they are whatever they want to be in them moment, whatever suits the narrative they are trying to pull!
It's ALWAYS about the clothes in ANTM, ALWAYS
😆
Thanks for always making me smile while watching your videos. They are super entertaining :)
That imaginary monologue at 16:22 definitely sounds like something Tyra would say, given the chance
I mean, Tyra is a sociopath Im sure of its, just with crappier acting skills, and Jay 1000%
If people think models dealing with rude people, having to get screamed at, suck it up, and then go do a job is cruel... wait till you hear about customer service....
Both are cruel, I believe.
Edit: I never worked as a model, but have in customer service
you know how in school teachers would grade papers based on a rubrik
like... they had a chart and the top has all the stuff required and as it goes down you only hit some of the points you needed to or whatever
they need that desperately on this show and only judge what the model can control (so not lighting or the style of clothes or makeup or whatever else, or their bodies besides posing)
i LOVE how much sarcasm jessica uses in these videos, it’s so funny!
I think it's totally safe🤔😂
@@gerison320 as long as they stay fierce from H2T ☝️
Compartmentalizing is literally a common coping mechanism for trauma victims. So. Tyra says, “I use a survival tactic for my trauma; so when I put you through new trauma, use my unhealthy coping mechanism and get over the trauma I’m causing you.
She’s an abuser. This is abuse.
I would love to hang out with Jessica and binge watch ANTM, eating some snacks while being shocked by the ridiculousity! #girlsdayin
I'll bring cupcakes
Are we not going to talk about how the pose at 14:57 was exactly what Jay wanted when he demonstrated to that girl “I want you desperate like this…” and did the EXACT same pose.
The moment she said Mr Jay didn’t like her, I knew she was going home
‘Okay that’s good that’s good now everyone start running after the bus’
‘Oh my god you are just doing fabulous’
yup she’s gonna get roasted by the judges
I had a classmate who was in the Dutch version of the next top model. She told me that before the filming started she already knew she was going to leave the show as the 4th girl of the show.
I lost it when you clocked the guy eating the sandwich xD
BTW, Lisa Jackson is still working as a model.
I would love if you’d react to ANTM cycle 11 episode 5, both the runway challenge and the photoshoot cuz that guest judge was ridiculous 🤦♂️
What Tyra says about perspective and legs looking shorter when going straight towards the camera makes sense, but if you look at the back cover of Alice Cooper’s Love It To Death album, Neal Smith’s legs are going straight towards the camera and they look longer than me. (And I’m not sure it was even done on purpose)
it only shows that it's not just the model's fault. It's how they communicate the instruction. It should be CLEAR & CONCISE.
Yeah
Loved the video! Might worth knowing that at the judging panel when they announced the girls were going to China, those were not “dragons” it’s a Lion dance - a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries usually performed during the Chinese New Year + other cultural and religious festivals :)
Other shoots of potential interest for this cycle - -
- the side of smoking (their 1st shoot), which led Tyra to inform them of a smoking ban for that season.
-the recycle materials photoshoot (who one model, Eboni, quits after a girl, is eliminated)
Also, the first they did an international reveal at judging, with a “wild” photoshoot.
Oh my god! Thank you Jessica!
they did that 3rd girl dirty on purpose she wasnt bent over with her hands on her knees as a pose she was just frustrated between shots and he decided to take that pic i knew for a fact when i heard the camera go off when she did that during the shoot that it was going to be her "best picture"
When it’s dangerous and the concept isn’t even that good.
Should be antm's tagline.
I totally agree with you about how they judge the pics without telling the models what the focus or expectations are! They are setting them up to fail and they aren't judging fairly
And on this segment of things that should've just been added in post...
Can you do an episode of how much they berated Sheena for being a “hooch” and Elina for supposedly being a bad model?
