You've gotten very good at voice acting. Reading that journal I could feel the emotion as the mayor began to unravel in his desperation do just do good.
Can I just say you do a great job reading the diary entry, conveying the mayor's state of mind with your tone, esp at 18:26 when he records "the people have been turning up to work there for weeks now so, at least they'll have something to do" - the hesitancy in your delivery does a great job conveying his lacklustre enthusiasm for the news; although he's technically achieving what he wanted, he didn't want to do it like this - by stripping peoples' free will.
I've always really hated the writing of the MTF in this story. To the best of their knowledge, they find themselves cut off, disarmed, and unable to leave the influence of an immensely powerful reality bender. They are unable to harm this reality bender, and he can seemingly effortlessly rewrite the world around them. Additionally, they do not know 100% if the foundation is informed about the situation. The next logical step, in their minds, is to directly challenge the reality bender to a pissing contest, and once that fails to try and lead a revolution in his little bubble kingdom. If the mayor was lying to everyone about needing to work within the legal framework to influence the world around him, best case scenario the MTF would simply stop existing the moment they became too disruptive, a fact that a trained task force who even slightly care about their own lives would heed.
Well the fact that the MTF could "sense" the laws around the town kind of disqualifies the mayor being a reality bender himself, since a reality bender can only affect something he is conscious about, then we can make the argument that the mayor is only a physical representation of a greater entity that can affect the whole town, and that this entity is conscious of the whole town at any time, then it could vaporize any weapon that enter the town without his phisical representation being conscious about it, this could work...
I don’t think any scp entry has a balance of anomalies and the Foundation/task force. Either they are on top of the game or complete anathema to their training. Apparently they are the best, selected and trained to function in specific environments but somehow make the dumbest of mistakes. While it may not be true in every instance, it’s the norm in most entries. I however do like the omega zero folks from 2111. They’re the epitome of duty. 😆
@@warnaud65 Why can't a reality bender bend reality (that felt weird to type out) in such a way that people feel compelled to obey laws they set? These are beings that rewrite reality, just because the story has set a limitation on the mayor doesn't mean the MTF has any reason to assume there is a limitation. They probably wouldn't bet their life on it. They CERTAINLY wouldn't risk a breach.
@@Rbrxrbrx he is saying that the mayor is not a reality bender. The town itself/ it's body of government (no matter who it is) is the anomaly from what I can tell, and the passing of laws is it's (the town) means of reciprocation. The first half of the entry the mayor is completely unaware of the events, and they just... happen; not even immediately.
There's an episode of an old show called the Twilight Zone that I was reminded of while watching this. It features a young boy with godlike/reality-bending powers who has used those powers to isolate and terrorise his family and the inhabitants of the town he lives in. Anyone who disagrees with him in any way gets "sent to the corn fields" never to be seen again.
Ah, I know that. Wasn't there also a sequel in the 2003 iteration featuring the reality warper's daughter (also played by the boy's actor's real life daughter Liliana Mumy... I actually know her more as Panini from Cartoon Network's Chowder and Leni Loud from Nickelodeon's The Loud House)? Oh, and sorry for my cartoon fanboyism.
Ah you beat me to it. I agree that this could be a variation on that story. Though as far as we know there mayor didn't have reality bending powers before coming to office and he is also subject to the laws. This suggests to me that the reality bending is not being done directly by the mayor but maybe another person, or more likely (in my opinion) an anomalous artifact of some sort. The artifact would likely be something that looks totally normal and the mayor may not even know what it is. It's clear that the mayor is as much a victim of the power as everyone else, maybe more so as he wanted to do good but it sent him crazy.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Yes I was thinking either that or the pen he used to draft the laws. There was a really creepy children's drama in England in 1972 called "Escape Into Night". It was about a young teenage girl Marianne who was off school, recovering from an illness. Her mother gave her paper and pencils to pass the time, she drew a picture of an isolated house on a moor with a boy looking out of an upstairs window. When she slept she found herself outside that house and went in to see the boy who it turned out couldn't walk, his name was Mark. There were various creepy events that she went back to every time she was asleep. It turned out that anything she drew with a particular pencil would appear in the dream world. The boy in the dream told her about his dreams which were of the real world.

What happens when lawyers and judges get involved and interpret the law differently? 🤔 I'm kinda surprised that MTFs fall under the the term "military." Because technically they're not. They're more like private security forces.
To anyone outside of Foundation staff the MTF look like regular military personnel because no one but the foundation knows what they do. The mayor doesn't know enough to know that MTF aren't military. Plus, they were probably in disguise. Nobody would question a group of armed individuals who look like they're with the military or government.
While I can see how the contradicting laws can be an issue in anomalous fields, I wonder if the issue would have been ignited to begin with if there was no military personnel in the town to begin with, considering that the SCP Foundation, despite having their MTF's, is not a military branch and neither are their personnel, but more of an organization with paramilitary-esque structure
Why didn't the MTF think of actually talking with the mayor about the situation? Instead of acting like escalating pricks they could have decided to reveal enough info to the mayor so that he would open up on working alongside them instead of going power mad. We'd all be dead, instantly, this is ALBANY we're talking about.
The foundation would definitely notice an orderly democrat-run city pretty quickly
Immediate real failure thanks to all the contradictory laws

There is a reason why I say it. "Do not give me this power. I will abuse it." This is the reason.
You've gotten very good at voice acting. Reading that journal I could feel the emotion as the mayor began to unravel in his desperation do just do good.
This SCP's concept is literally the "It's forbidden by law to be a criminal" meme cranked up to 11.
I like this lower quality mic, it fits with the scp
Honestly, silly as it is, I was expecting the MTF to be down to one member who go after the mayor with a bat or a sword or something.
@@peterjf7723 Maybe the anomaly is the lawbook he's holding...
It's a Good Life
Out of all the SCP related TH-camrs out there, I like this channel the best. Less verbatim reading, having a unique take on each SCP, and a great voice and pacing for this sort of video. Huge thank you.
Thank you for erasing 20 minutes and bringing closer to the end of my shift
Must be awful not being able to leave despite having nothing to do.
@@aliveandwellinisrael2507 its probably not as bad as you think honestly, its just slow so i spend my nights watching stuff like this or /x greentexts just to try and spook myself for entertainment lol, i basically get paid to watch TH-cam from 10pm to 6am so its definitely worth the time, i might have had 15 customers through my whole shift last night
always love the vids I like to listen to them when I try to fall a sleep you have a very calming voice
I like that the mayors reasoning becomes more and more unhinged over time
Hey, TES! How was the move? Everything is fine and dandy?
Aside from the move breaking something that led to the lower audio quality of this video, yeah.
@@TheExploringSeries Damn, sad to hear, but the audio didn't seem different to any other of your late videos. Then again, my speakers hardly are the best quality, so might not have picked that out.
Glad everything is working out, you are doing a great job and listening to your videos is my weekly ritual when I cut veggies for dinner :D
@@TheHalogen131 yeah its just not quite as booming and authoritative as some others

This one was so good!!
Sometimes the Foundation needs to send in a psychologist rather then an MTF.
Definitely could have reasoned with that guy better.
Law #219 : "The town shall be as perfect as possible, according to all sane and untempered citizen point of view. Whatever this entice, this shall not prevent anyone from leaving the area nor affect anomalously their being or behavior, and will not have any ill effect on the outside world nor the inside of the town."
Bam, done.
“To the best of his intentions”
This is going to become hell on earth isn’t it?
Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals someone's true character. Even if someone has good intentions, it usually comes from selfish roots.
Find someone who's true desire is to be left alone but was raised to be sociable and put them in charge. They would likely do the least damage as the 'corrupting influence' would lead them to just get away.
@@jonsimpson6240 imo, you want a gun enthusiast.
One weird thing in this story is the mills. Where did the supply's come from? Where did the shipped goods go? Not even the mayor knows how or where. I wonder if some third party had a hand in this for the finished product the mills made
The Factory
Yet another time you made a video before I go to bed, I thank you for this. I've been waiting so long lmao

"so i broke reality and the town is gone now and so am i"
The first time I read this one I instantly loved it. SCP's that end so ambiguously and really make you think afterwards are cool. The emotion in the really is really great. Seriously.
Just wanted to say that voice acting in this video was on point. A+ job!
Wow.... Sound is really quality on this one. Listen to this playlist every night for bed.
Ironic 😂 on Twitter he said it’s a temporary mic downgrade
There's a podcast version on Spotify, too
@@Sir_Oren he had that message written at the beginning of this video as well. A lot of people are preferring this mic.
This was the most unsettling scp you've covered in a minute. Something everyone being trapped then just popped out of existence by a contradiction is frightening.
Like wandavision.
16:35 I reckoning that place, worth a video of it's own but it's basically an old artists home from deep somewhere in Kansas and it inspired many of the townsfolk there to do their own weird and wacky sculptures all over town over the years.
You definitely deserve to have 1M subscribers by now man. Your channel is top tier.
"Meanwhile, in another reality, a massive reality restructuring event drops an entire town sans its town hall on top of Cullen, Nebraska, leaving only this town's town hall surrounded by mountains of rubble."

This feels like a good origin story for "The factory"
What happens when lawyers and judges get involved and interpret the law differently? 🤔 I'm kinda surprised that MTFs fall under the the term "military." Because technically they're not. They're more like private security forces.
Yeah the writer really dropped the ball by handwaving away a lot of the legal loopholes in those laws.
To anyone outside of Foundation staff the MTF look like regular military personnel because no one but the foundation knows what they do. The mayor doesn't know enough to know that MTF aren't military. Plus, they were probably in disguise. Nobody would question a group of armed individuals who look like they're with the military or government.
@@GreatNegus Exactly, it's so obvious.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
This was one of the very first SCP articles I read, thanks for covering this one! I'd forgotten what it was called.

I like the mic better tbh. It sounds more natural, almost like what you'd think a tape recorder would sound like playing back.
I'm often driving while listening. Thank You for this series it is a life saver👍😁
Great work getting into character with the Mayor! I’m always surprised by your voice acting :)
I read this article a couple of years ago and I'm glad my memory is poor because I got to experience it another time
Why didn't the MTF think of actually talking with the mayor about the situation? Instead of acting like escalating pricks they could have decided to reveal enough info to the mayor so that he would open up on working alongside them instead of going power mad. It's not like they couldn't just amnesthisize him later on...
