Everytime i read anything about John I get sad as to the songs that could of been written that we will never hear. He was such an amazingly talented and gifted musician.
Every time I read where someone has typed "of" instead of "have", I get sad and angry at what is happening to the English language. I'm not sure if it's down to pure ignorance or just downright laziness, but it's sad to see it.
@@CB-xr1eg I'm as much of a grammar cop as the next sergeant (and maybe more so), but may I share with you something one of my Twitter followers noted to me? Simply this: not everyone had the educational, cultural, financial, or class advantages that you had. And if one didn't grow up with well-educated, articulate parents; if one didn't have a top-notch grade-school educational foundation; if one hasn't been surrounded one's whole life with models of rhetorical rectitude; then proper spelling & grammar are unlikely to be natural, unthinking, automatic habits. So maybe, just maybe, if you cut some of these folks a bit of slack, & paid a bit more attention to what they're saying, & less to the minutiae of how they're saying it, perhaps you'd find yourself a bit less stressed, mayhap even a bit happier -- and so might the people who read your comments? Just a thought. Cheers!
@@smartalek180 Let *me* share something with *you* I didn't get on at school, I hated the teachers and they hated me. I left with no qualifications, Therefore I have no advantages, educational or otherwise, except maybe the ability to write, read and spell the English language. I was reading from the age of 3 and I just have to look at a word to know if it's spelt correctly or incorrectly. I accept that this doesn't apply to everyone, but we are in an age where we are using computers and we have vast amounts of knowledge at our fingertips. We also have programs like spellcheck/autocorrect and Grammarly which will correct us if we spell something incorrectly, and also if we happen to type something that is incorrect grammarwise. Therefore I maintain that comments which contain poor spelling and bad grammar are posted by people who just don't care, or are too lazy too correct it. Occasionally I will type a word and it will be spelt wrongly due to a typo, my typing is not the best and I do make mistakes. I have Grammarly to show me if that occurs and I always correct it. I may be wrong in expecting others to do the same.
Beautiful Boy.............Imagine..........Give Peace A Chance.....All you Need Is Love.............. I also love 'Stand By Me' as it was sung by John, written by Ben E. King. So many many more!! They were not just talented, they became brilliant. But they had to put in the work and the time to become that. They became masters, icons, individually and together. John separated himself from convention. He became a peacemaker. He married Yoko Ono. His music, words and personality had an impact, a legacy we need to carry forward individually, towards a better world. Thank you WatchmojoUK for the research and putting it out there! RO
My fave John Lennon song is Rain. In the finished released mix, in the two places where the boys dwell on the title word, I still can't figure out how they made it sound so beautiful. Maybe it was just a happy accident.
Great song, I could never ever pick a favorite _Lennon_ song! They all are so good. But just to name one.. . *"I Am The Walrus"* the great B-side to Pauls " *Hello Goodbye* " John was a bit pissed that Walrus wasn't the "A" side!
Cilla Black worked at The Cavern Club, occasionally singing on stage and was originally managed by Brian Epstein, she was a long time friend of the Beatles. Paul's younger brother Mike and some of John Lennon's family on his half sister's side and George Harrison's son Dhani were at her funeral, amongst others including Jimmy Tarbuck, Cliff Richard and Paul O'Grady. The Beatles first met Bowie in the late sixties, around the time of the Yellow Submarine cartoon's release.
"I'm The Greatest" sung by Ringo * off his "Ringo" album was indeed written by John with help from George. In fact, the album as a whole was, at the time, considered the closest thing we had, after Abbey Road, as an extra Beatles album because all four members of the Beatles contributed in some way to it. Memories, what memories!
Interesting that 'Rock & Roll People' is not featured. Lennon gave this to Johnny Winter for his 1974 LP, John Dawson Winter III and it suits Johnny's blues/ rock style perfectly.
They were what Lennon called "throw-away" songs which does NOT include his collaborations where he is credited, like Fame. But what's cool about this, is again it brings home another reason why the Beatles were so great.

Interestingly it reached #9 on the Billboard singles chart 1974. At first I thought it was Yoko doing the female backing vocals but it was May Pang who Lennon was with at the time.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention this, but in David Bowie’s Fame, the entire part near the end, where the voice went from high pitch to low pitch going, “Fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame…” That wasn’t David Bowie’s voice doing that part. That was John Lennon’s.

"I'm in Love" was not originally written for The Fourmost. It was first given to Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Billy had problems trying to sing it and after a few takes gave up. Later John gave the song to The Fourmost. In the 1990s Ron Furmanek, a very talented sound engineer for EMI, was tasked with compiling a number of greatest hits compilations of various British Invasion artists. When he was copying from the original studio masters of Billy J. Kramer... in the EMI archives, he found the partial takes of "I'm in Love". By editing them together, he came up with a great sounding full version of the song which was released on that compilation album along with studio chatter. The chatter has John trying to encourage Billy to try another take of the song, Billy saying that he can't get it and George Martin interrupting the two of them telling them that if they want to argue with each other, he would book some studio time later for them to continue their argument. That track is worth buying the CD for if only for the talking that precedes the recording. It's also a really great recording of that song, much better than The Fourmost's version.
Lennon also wrote Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, a number #1 for Elton John, and I Don't Want to Spoil the Party which was #1 on the country charts for Rosanne Cash.
Lennon wrote both the A and B sides of Elton John 's cover Single . Lucy from Sgt Pepper and One Day at a Time from Lennon 's solo Album , Mind Games . They were both Cover versions , they were NOT written for Elton John . Bryan Ferry did a great Cover of Jealous Guy too . Original is best however .
The Stones rendition of "I Wanna Be Your Man" was around November 1963 and they watched John & Paul construct the song close-by. By January 1964 Mick & Keith had written "That Girl Belongs to Yesterday", a January 1964 single by Gene Pitney "Will You Be My Lover Tonight"/"It Should Be You", a January 1964 a single by George Bean. So it could be said that John & Paul were the primary influencers for Mick & Keith.
Listen to Fame and pay attention to the falsetto voice singing the word “Fame”. That is John. He is also doing some of the guitar work on the piece. Great song. Happy memories!
Not sure why you think That Means Alot was John's, when all signs point to Paul. The Beatles version was officially released on Anthology 2 with lead vocals by Paul. It's For You was Paul, as well.
Ofc it was Paul. John didn't write like that. "Can't you seee--yeah..." etc are so typically Paul it's crazy to think John even had a hand in it. I love the Anthology version, I play it constantly! Seriously!
Collaboration, people. a thing fans often don't get: someone else will bring something to the table that wouldn't happen otherwise...maybe only one chord/note/ word/beat etc
Lennon was apparently known to be kind to Cilla Black, not always his MO. Lennon was probably a better guy than he appeared to be, but also seemingly went out of the way to hide it . . . .
Baby You're A Rich Man, Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever........there are a heap of his that take you somewhere else whenever I hear them, Tomorrow Never Knows, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, You Can't Do That, brilliant music.
@@heatherlane5327 that means a lot was recorded in 1965. So whether you're right or wrong with your delusion about Paul is dead, your statement is still wrong.
"Mucho Mongo" is a very nice piece of music. Harry Nilsson does a gorgeous version of it of course (produced by Lennon). I just wish John could have done a proper recording of it.
John Lennon and David Bowie wrote another song together besides "Fame": "Rock 'n' Roll with Me," which was on the "Diamond Dogs" LP and was actually released earlier than "Fame." But not many people realize it was a Lennon/Bowie collaboration because Lennon took his credit under the pseudonym "Peace." Also the Lennon version of "God Save Oz" was recorded first; for contractual reasons Lennon took his own vocal off the song and had Bill Elliott record it over the same backing track.
I think one of the best Lennon-McCartney songs they gave away was " A World Without Love". Paul gave it to "Peter and Gordon because he didn't think the song was good enough for "The Beatles" little did he know! 😏
You left out John Lennon and Elton John's collaborations, Whatever Gets You Through The Night ( a live track ) and a cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, with John Lennon credited as Winston O' Boogie.
I like The Beatles version of "I Want to be your Man" over The Stones version. I'm not saying it because Lennon & McCartney wrote it, The Beatles version sound better. I like Ringo's lead vocal over Mick's. 🌞🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂☮💎
The story i heard was that the Beatles and Stones were on the same tour and Mick needed a song quickly and were given I Wanna Be Your Man, which was written quickly by lennon/McCartney whom didnt really want it for themselves, they did though, as usual, make their own recording of it
Awesome recording of I Wanna Be Your Man on the Live at the BBC 1st album. I think it's the best version I've ever heard, his drumming is more syncopated than the finished single. I love it!
My favorite John Lennon tracks are fame and also it’s for you by Selah black one or the amazing artist silhouettes. I even love move over Mizelle what a great song.
Interesting video, In My Life, now Paul says he wrote most of it. So it will have to be I am the Walrus, noo, Strawberry Fields, or Hey Bull Dog, dam it it's hard to pick a favorite
Well, these are songs that were popular when I first went to dances at the CYO at St. Bart's and at my own church, All Saints' Episcopal in Scotch Plains. Amazing that the Fab Four had a hand in these or at least John & Paul. I'm glad George H. got in on that last one.
Everybody hearing Come Together, Dear Prudence, I Am The Walrus, All You Need Is Love, Revolution, Strawberry Fields, Lucy In The Sky wouldn't believe it was a 60's song. It's beyond Genre.
You've missed a few bigger hits that Lennon passed to other singers: With a little help from my friends (Joe Cocker), Jealous guy (Brian Ferry), Dear Prudence (Siouxsie & the Banshees).
A few years ago I saw a rerun of that Dick Cavett show with John and Yoko. They were telling about their upcoming relocation to NYC. I actually shouted at the TV (a few decades too late), "DON'T DO IT!!!"
Yes, he wrote these great ditties, and he continues to ripe morgue all the tomb. Herk are a feud of his latest winks! Hark, the herald angel comes in me whiskers: 1. The Who Can't Sing! 2. I Wanna Hold yer Hag 3. Ringo and I Got Herpes! 4. First I Collected Stamps. Then, I collected Stomps. Now I Collect Stumps. 5. William Blake Works A Night Shift ( at Seven-Eleven) 6. I Found Atlantis in Alanis Morissette's Panties ( or Sorry, Yoko! ) 7. Bob Dylan Votes Republican! 8. Zappa, You Cheapskate! You Owe me Money, Honey! 9. Martyr for Nothing 10. Edgar Allan Poe Glows in Heaven Love. Peace. Out! J. L. 3725 A.D.D. (After the Domino in Drag) -- Nothing is real.
Spector had nothing to do with 'Mucho Mungo'. I think he's thinking of 'Here We Go Again'. The demo version of 'God Save Oz/Us' with just John and the congas is the best...a good track. Also on Imagine deluxe release.
The seamless fusion of nostalgia and contemporary relevance in your video is profoundly moving, effectively conveying a powerful message of growth, resilience, and the timeless legacy of these iconic stars. *DO YOU AGREE WITH ME
I believe there were many songs written by Paul and John for the Beatles that were not made and none of these songs were written specifically for other people but when the Beatles decided not to produce them, it was only then that they were sold to other artists.

@@ChrisM-fz6xx Exactly, well said.
Hundreds of L Lennon Macartney songs were covered and became hits for countless artists. Elton was just one of many to cover a Beatle song!!
For me "Bad to me" is one of the best songs Lennon wrote
The Stones rendition of "I Wanna Be Your Man" was around November 1963 and they watched John & Paul construct the song close-by. By January 1964 Mick & Keith had written "That Girl Belongs to Yesterday", a January 1964 single by Gene Pitney
"Will You Be My Lover Tonight"/"It Should Be You", a January 1964 a single by George Bean. So it could be said that John & Paul were the primary influencers for Mick & Keith.
The Stones didn't watch John & Paul compose it, they went into another room to do it.
Wow I had completely forgotten this song by Cilla .. and didn’t know john had written Fame … how did I not know this 😳😳😳
oh I miss the 60s /70s
Listen to Fame and pay attention to the falsetto voice singing the word “Fame”. That is John. He is also doing some of the guitar work on the piece. Great song. Happy memories!
Paul primarily wrote the Cilla song
Not sure why you think That Means Alot was John's, when all signs point to Paul. The Beatles version was officially released on Anthology 2 with lead vocals by Paul. It's For You was Paul, as well.
Ofc it was Paul. John didn't write like that. "Can't you seee--yeah..." etc are so typically Paul it's crazy to think John even had a hand in it. I love the Anthology version, I play it constantly! Seriously!
The credits for a song didn't always line up with the real circumstances. Queen docos explained why!
Fame with Bowie, brilliant.
Imagine how much better it could've been if Paul wrote it.....

Lennon was apparently known to be kind to Cilla Black, not always his MO. Lennon was probably a better guy than he appeared to be, but also seemingly went out of the way to hide it . . . .
I always thought he was a bit of an Ass Hat~!
He's very complicated man
It seemed he was an iconoclast. He was comfortable being disliked, leaving him misunderstood.
Excellent point and I hadn't thought of that but now I believe you have hit on why he was an Ass Hat~!! @@devinjerry2780

Baby You're A Rich Man, Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever........there are a heap of his that take you somewhere else whenever I hear them, Tomorrow Never Knows, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, You Can't Do That, brilliant music.
Well I always prefered the Stones version of I wanna be your man, it has such a cool groove to it.
Best Lennon song: I am the walrus
That Means a Lot was mostly Paul.
True. It was Pauls attempt at writing Johns ‘Ticket to Ride’. Has a lot of similarities melody and style wise
You mean Billy Shears? Paul has been dead since 1966 😢
@@heatherlane5327 that means a lot was recorded in 1965. So whether you're right or wrong with your delusion about Paul is dead, your statement is still wrong.
Wrote so many hits he started forgetting some of them
"Mucho Mongo" is a very nice piece of music. Harry Nilsson does a gorgeous version of it of course (produced by Lennon). I just wish John could have done a proper recording of it.
What about the song "World Without Love" performed by Peter and Gordon?
That was McCartney.
unfortunately (or not) all these songs can be forgotten. Really insignificant melodies
"Jealous Guy" is the hands-down winner for me.
But do you know what the song was called before it became Jealous Guy?
@@CB-xr1egchild of nature?
@@Steven-d6b7x Correct. It was written to be on The White Album but John decided against it.
“Rock ‘n’ Roll with Me” was co-written by Warren Peace (Geoff MacCormack) and was released before Bowie even met Lennon.
' Bad To Me ' is my favorite out of the 10.
I think one of the best Lennon-McCartney songs they gave away was " A World Without Love". Paul gave it to "Peter and Gordon because
he didn't think the song was good enough for "The Beatles" little did he know! 😏
John had literally nothing to do with it. Paul wrote it completely by himself and John even made fun of it
You left out John Lennon and Elton John's collaborations, Whatever Gets You Through The Night ( a live track ) and a cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, with John Lennon credited as Winston O' Boogie.
Everybody knows Lennon wrote that.

"It's for you" was written primarly by McCartney, not Lennon.
Definitely sounds more like a Paul song…
I like The Beatles version of "I Want to be your Man" over The Stones version. I'm not saying it because Lennon & McCartney wrote it,
The Beatles version sound better. I like Ringo's lead vocal over Mick's. 🌞🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂☮💎
Funny thing is John once said about giving the song to The Rolling Stones is if he thought it would’ve been a hit they wouldn’t let Ringo sing it
Working Class Hero, Imagine, In My Life: my Lennon favs. Happy Christmas!
I love it!
John Lennon was a co-writer of Bowies Fame so he didn’t write the complete song
My favorite John Lennon tracks are fame and also it’s for you by Selah black one or the amazing artist silhouettes. I even love move over Mizelle what a great song.
It's For You (Cilla Black) was entirely written by Paul McCartney. Hope you still love it now 😏
@@strathman7501 yes I do it is one of the greatest songs ever. Anything by the Beatles that they wrote I love still.
Interesting video, In My Life, now Paul says he wrote most of it. So it will have to be I am the Walrus, noo, Strawberry Fields, or Hey Bull Dog, dam it it's hard to pick a favorite
An amazing song, but then I pretgy mych feel that way about all of the Beatles' songs.😊
I knew about all of these passed on by the beatles.. God save us I have on a single and the B side Do the oz was sung by John
Love Imagine. Love the line in another song. 'Life is what happens when you re busy making other plans. Most of my life been like that!
Well, these are songs that were popular when I first went to dances at the CYO at St. Bart's and at my own church, All Saints' Episcopal in Scotch Plains. Amazing that the Fab Four had a hand in these or at least John & Paul. I'm glad George H. got in on that last one.
the greatest john lennon songs for me is OLD DIRT ROAD, WORKING CLASS HERO, and GOD. these tracks were greater than the beatles.
I agree and bit more :I always preferred Lennon's post Beatle out put over Beatles
God very very bad song and McCartney songs much better

All of The Plastic Ono Band album is GREAT. My favorite all time album ever since the week it was released.
Everybody hearing Come Together, Dear Prudence, I Am The Walrus, All You Need Is Love, Revolution, Strawberry Fields, Lucy In The Sky wouldn't believe it was a 60's song. It's beyond Genre.
John could write lovely tunes. "If I Fell" remains a favourite.
You've missed a few bigger hits that Lennon passed to other singers: With a little help from my friends (Joe Cocker), Jealous guy (Brian Ferry), Dear Prudence (Siouxsie & the Banshees).
No, they were all cover versions of previously released tracks. Not the same thing at all.
A few years ago I saw a rerun of that Dick Cavett show with John and Yoko. They were telling about their upcoming relocation to NYC.
I actually shouted at the TV (a few decades too late), "DON'T DO IT!!!"
Goodnight Vienna sung by Ringo 🔥

That means a lot is mainly a Paul song, and if I remember correctly, so is It's for you
"If I Fell" is his very best work (with Paul).
Every day, a school day. Up until now I could have sworn that I Wanna Be Your Man was a Jagger/Richards composition!
In the Beatles' recording of "That Means A Lot" it's Paul singing.

Spector had nothing to do with 'Mucho Mungo'. I think he's thinking of 'Here We Go Again'.
The demo version of 'God Save Oz/Us' with just John and the congas is the best...a good track. Also on Imagine deluxe release.
That's what I was going to comment Mucho Mungo is a miniature gem by J Lennon mated with H Nillson pearl Mt Elga A very dreamy song ❤

There's also "Goodnight Vienna", still written for Ringo.

There is a Beatles Version of Bad To Me floating around here on TH-cam.
Greatest songs by JL, imagine, woman, and everything else 👍👍👍👍
I believe there were many songs written by Paul and John for the Beatles that were not made and none of these songs were written specifically for other people but when the Beatles decided not to produce them, it was only then that they were sold to other artists.
Wouldn’t be great if they colourised the whole AHDN film like this ? 😊
What about his collab w/Sir Elton John?( “Whatever Gets You Through The Night”)
