    Well done, Aya! I could't figure out why you were covering the wood clapboards with cardboard, but the end result is fabulous. And it shows that one does not need to buy very expensive wood ones to get a great result.

      Thank you Rob! I am sure that does seem strange to start out with but I liked the freedom of being able to move it around and mess it up as I pleased. The kit clapboard was just too perfect for me :D

    Great video! Just an FYI; most wax style coatings on commercial cardboard such as what you used for the siding are polyurethane coatings. Acetone strips the coating off without sanding; you need only to brush it on like paint and it will eat the glosscoat off, and the surface underneath is now inert and ready for paint. On the other hand, polyurethane is fire retardant, so it could be argued that leaving as much of it on and just scuffing the surface will leave the final project slightly more flame resistant than it was without the cardboard.

  • @ratsika3
    @ratsika3 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The color siding could probably fit in with the original sets. If you looks at color pictures of the TV show set everything is in bright colors to give more shade variety when it was filmed in black and white.

  • @melrmontez
    @melrmontez ปีที่แล้ว

    Fyi...you don't have to buy/ use crackle to get the effect. A layer of slightly tacky Elmer's white glue in between your paint shades works the same. Thw thicker the glue, the bigger the cracks. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to speed up the crackling pricess.

    This was great! I've got The Painted Lady from Real Good Toys, I built it a couple of years ago. I'm now in the process of completely remodeling it. Stripping paint, removing doors, windows, stairs, shingles and also sanding off the siding. I want to give it a brick exterior so the pre-fabricated stuff has to go buh-bye.

      @@BentleyHouseMinis I hope so! I'm hoping to do it without spending a small fortune on pre made brick siding. I'm currently experimenting with sandpaper that I've painted a with a wine red. The brown of the paper makes it a lovely brick color and the rough texture adds a bit more realisim. It's the mortar lines that are giving me fits.

      Thank you! No its just the wood pieces. You can look it up on Real Good Toys website. The center house is called the Alison Jr. And the two side pieces are add-ons you can buy.

    It's stunning! May I ask what grade sandpaper you used? And what brands of paint would you recommend?

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the sand paper was a 220 grit... I think ;) I recommend starting with some of the cheap acrylic craft paints. But then if you don't like the consistency (usually its a little watery) you can start upgrading your most used colors to a better brand. I hope that helps!

    Are you going to put some scalloped shingles on the roof parts? I think that would give that part of the exterior some nice vintage-look detail. You could just cut some from the same material you used to redo the siding, or maybe you have some wooden ones from the kit.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kit did come with wood shingles but I will be trying to make my own with cardboard. I see so many sad dollhouses with cracked wood shingles that I think the cardboard will be more durable and I can make my own shape. I will make a video on it when I get to that part. Thanks for the question!

    Why did you paint it first if you coveted it with siding?

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I painted it so that if there were any gaps showing in the final process that you wouldn't see the bare wood color ;) It's also advisable to paint bare wood to seal it a bit ;)

    What did you use for siding?

  • @allexx123
    @allexx123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did not understand the reason of painting the house black first if you added the siding on it afterwards and then brown paint. I have a house similar to this one that has no siding so just going to do your siding method on it. Thanks for showing this.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do that sometimes in case I accidentally leave a gap in the siding somewhere... the black underneath is better than the color of the house showing through. It's probably a step you can skip if you like ;) Glad you enjoyed the video!
