I turned 18 in the summer of 1978". My Philly friends and I all had jobs at the Jersey Shore and a place to stay. We had the beach, the sun, the girls, and the right location. I remember walking through a field of tall grass/reeds and hearing "Thunder Island" blasting away from somewhere in the far off distance. It was surreal and the memory is seared into my memory. Those carefree days in and of the summer of our youth will never be repeated, but they'll always be remembered. At some point we all leave our youth behind, but the memories stay. Songs like "Thunder Island" are like a time machine that bring us back to those days. We can visit, but will never live them again. If you had the great fortune to grow up in the 70's it was a special time and we knew it back then. We had great cars, great music, and a great time. Wish you could have been there, but if your weren't you can listen to the music of our day and take a magic carpet ride and dream about the life we lived.
This song takes me back to the summer of 1978 when I was going into my senior year. This song described my idea of the perfect romance back then. I'm now 61 and know it's not very realistic but still it's fun to dream of :)

I remember when my parents took me and my sister to Disneyworld in Orlando in late April 1978, and we were just kids. We drove all the way there from our home in southern Ontario, and this song was frequently played on the various radio stations we would pick up on the way there. This song is one of my favourites from that time. I loved it not just for the sound, but the images of a tropical paradise it seemed to evoke in my mind.

I was 13 in 1978......such a magical time, the 70's. And oh yes...I had the 45 records and also held the portable cassette tape up to the stereo speakers and recorded off the radio.....I would always get upset when mom would interrupt by yelling at me to come do something....."Mom! I'm taping a song!!!!! " and then I could hear her in the background when I played it back! LOL!
This was frequently playing on the juke box in middle school gym class. I remember the phrase in the song "in the sunshine with her dress undone" turned me on. But at that time the shape of a passing cloud or a furniture leg could turn me on.

From July in to August, I hiked 200 miles of PCT to get to Thunder Island, an annual event for hikers, Cascade Locks Oregon on the Columbia River.
