  • Dion Waiters was a guard everyone waited on his potential to finally kick in. He was on his way early in the league, but by 25 Dion Waiters was already a journeyman, on his 3rd NBA team. A Miami Heat team he was suspended 3 times in 1 season by for reasons like griping about playing time and role, only to not play the next game and show up eating popcorn on the team bench during the game, calling in to work sick then posting a picture on instagram on a boat celebrating his birthday, then the most infamous, eating a THC infused gummy before getting on the plane with the team to L.A, having a panic attack mid air and having to have emergency medical attention upon the plane’s landing. Dion Waiters was supposed to be a star. After all, before he entered the league all anyone could talk about was his potential. What happens when potential is polished to the best finished product? Drafted Before Hall Of Famers and Out The League At 28! Dion Waiters Stunted Growth

As a Heat fan, I thought if someone could fix him it was Spo. He was still inconsistent when he got to Miami but Spo let him be himself and he had some great games in a Heat uniform, he still was mostly a shot chucker with tunnel vision but shown playmaking capabilities when his shot was falling. It doesn't help that he got lazy and erratic after he got that long term deal and was already throwing tantrums about Herro playing over him before the gummy incident.
If not for his immaturity and overconfidence, he could've been a decent to great combo guard which we saw glimpses of in his first year in Miami.

I said this nigga can play in the league right now!!!! Bang from 31st !!! Keep ya head youngin…. You just needed the right fit but more importantly willing to put the work in which I knew you did… somewhere along the line frustration set in… lastly, that how we rock in South Philly… we don’t play second fiddle to nobody… idgaf if you’re name is Lebron KYRIE or KD…

In a perfect world, Dion could have been an interesting mix of Gilbert Arenas, Chauncey Bullips and Dwade.... almost like Joe DUmars, but more focus on offense and less on defense...situations like his though teach you a lesson.... I could see him being able to help a lot of kids coming up in similar scenarios. He knew how to ball and could even run point. I think if he had a better image of himself he would make a good coach. But, he always made me feel like he felt he was an outcast.

But definitely borderline HOF or HOF credentials. Will be considered 4sure.. played a significant role for a Dynasty team. Bball isn’t just about who can score the best. Green does everything at an elite level besides score. Which he also did at a decent level b4 the addition of KD, making his scoring role lesser, which ultimately affected his shooting confidence. But Dennis Rodman made the HOF for being an elite rebounder/defender on championship teams. So he should be considered as well, at the least

As a lifelong Syracuse fan, it wouldn't surprise me at all if what Dion had to say about being lied to by Boeheim is completely true. As he got closer to the end of his era here, it felt like more and more like there were guys that Boeheim was simply going to rely on, no matter what (Girard, his own sons, etc), and there were guys that, if you got in the dog house for whatever reason whatsoever, you would never really be forgiven, like Dion.
Can't really fault Boeheim for starting Triche over Dion though. Triche scored pretty much as well as Dion did, and also was a really reliable coach on the floor type of guy. He played in more games than anyone in SU's history, and started in every one of them. And those teams were actually good.

I get it though. When you’re way of playing has got you to the league you think it’s the best way all the. But, it’s a skill to sit back and change your game for the team to win

It’s all about where you’re drafted. Sometimes you get lucky and get placed in advantageous positions and take it for granted. Others are placed in tough situations and have to work hard to stay relevant.

@@holdmyweight3597 because you drafted players on what they’ve done and their potential. No one knew he would flame out and Dame would become a superstar. Ofc it’s easier to look back and say Dame should have been picked first, no shxt. But based on the information on hand at the time Waiters was the better pick at the time, hence why he was picked 1st.
