    Go Navy! I attended RD A School at Great Lakes in 1963. The entrance to the auditorium had a plaque in honor to John Philip Souza in tribute to the composer.

    Joining the Navy was one of the smartest things I ever did. The Navy was good to me. I highly recommend joining. I was always treated more than fairly and offered all the advancement I deserved. 3MAY67 - 4MAY71 plus 2 Reserves.

    I graduated from San Diego RTC early 1964 and was off the coast of Vietnam by October 1964. I looks like things in the navy have changed a great deal.

    Graduated 8/64 then off to Norfolk for 6 mos. In time for a Caribean cruise then back to Great Lakes for A school. After a short leave off to San Diego just in time for a WestPac cruise. After returning to Alameda for leave and a short refurbishing back on WestPac. In 4 yrs. and a forced extension of 3 mos. went on 3 deployments.

      From Staff Sgt Roberts USMC (1996-2006) to future Seaman, good luck and stay strong and don't worry about what Jason Taylor says, I shipped for Boot Camp Christmas Eve of 96 and it bothered me NONE because I had a job to do to become a Marine

    Finished my boot in 1955 in San Diego. Served one hitch. I would say that boot camp has changed since then.
    While in, all us enlisted guys seemed to do the standard bitching about something. The old Navy saying , "if you ain't bitching, you ain't happy" applied. What was amusing was the CPO's putting the fresh Ensigns in their place as the fresh Ensigns thought they were gods over us enlisted heathens. Ever see a Chief without a coffee cup in hand? The Chiefs made the Navy run.
    Proud to have served and as I look back on it those many years ago, no regrets.

    what are they doing at 18:34?

    • @ryan4558
      @ryan4558 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh thought so. So is it tear gas?

    • @marshalll1783
      @marshalll1783 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is CS gas (also called o-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile). Immediate effects include
      Crying
      Sneezing
      Coughing
      Breathing difficulty
      Temporary blindness
      Excessive salivation (drooling)
      Runny nose
      Itching/pain in the eyes
      Skin irritation
      All of which you are briefed on. Depending on the branch, some branches make recruits do exercises for 20-30 minutes inside the chamber. The chamber is used to stimulate chemical gases used on the battlefield or in wartime situations.

    This is pretty good! I graduated in July 1990 - back then, we did the Anchors Aweigh March at the end. A little disappointed that they don't do the march anymore, but this is still good.

    I passed through 27DEC96 at GLRTC. We PIR'ed to the Navy Band playing Anchors Aweigh in front of the reviewing officer. It looks like they don't do this anymore. What a shame if you ask me, but then again it seems the brass tacks just abolished ratings after 241 years of naval tradition. Hell crossing the equator involves squirting water in a sailors face and calling them a shellback. *sighs* No matter, I loved my Navy and despite its boneheads I still love her today.

    Played baritone bugle in San Diego NTC Drum and Bugle Corps 1968. Played a parade at Hollywood and Vine, we were good sound wise and definitely "squared away". As we used to tell ourselves, we could get more girls than Frank Sinatra. But then it was off to Vietnam on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. Then, in 1975 it was back to The University of Iowa to play euphonium in the Hawkeye Marching and University of Iowa Concert Band. I majored in Sociology, however. Now I play in The Hawkeye Alumni Marching and still think I could get more girls than Frank Sinatra.
