  • After getting tired of the super large fretwires that I put on this guitar, I decided to do a yjm mod on it and put some jumbo 6000 fretwires and scallop the fretboard.

Beautiful Stratocaster and your scalloping work is masterful.

Thats a very handsome looking guitar, THB. I also salute your jumbo balls for having the temerity to freehand scallop that board.

I've done this many times since I was a teen when I started having an obsession with yjm's guitar but could not afford it. Thanks for watching.

@@rockcastlemusic did you put the dimarzios pickups in the Grassroots strat?

Yes. Hs3 in the bridge and neck and an area 67 in the middle.

i wouldn't think the intonation would be affected but that's something to take into consideration. Very nice axe!

Might happen only from big change of fretwire size from smallest to super jumbo size plus improper fret crowning.

Thanks for posting this! I just scalloped my own neck here a month back or so. It was a japanese neck from a 71 reissue strat. I didn't bother with the brass nut, but fortunately, I didn't file through the black inlay markers.
    nice job btw!

Hello, super nice job as scalloping a fretboard is quite tedious ! But the result is indeed excellent ! I love scalloped necks : they are much more confortable, allow to play faster as the pressure under the fingers is softer and they deliver more expressive tunes. Thank you for the video !

If they are so great, why so few brands make them in factories? Sorry if a stupid question.

Well, it would cost a lot of money for a company to make scalloped guitars because it has to be done by hand. Also scalloped guitars are a pretty niche market.@@ivanbalashov468

@ivanbalashov468 it's not a stupid question, I wonder the same thing. I have a scalloped fretboard and it's true, it makes playing easier. It is wonderful, but not everyone likes it at first. Now of course, all of my guitars will have to have scalloped necks✨️

HB, very well done like a pro. 👍
Will you scallop my strat neck for a price.?

Of course the YJM pickups on a scalloped fretboard 👌
I wonder though, why not order a separate neck and do the scalloping there so you can preserve the original neck?

That's gonna cost a lot after shipping and taxes here where I live.

I'll be interested to see if it weakens the neck for forward bowing

Can you link me the file you used? I have a cheap old Squier strat I want to try this on. I have absolutely zero experience with any kind of luthier work (besides general setup) so this should be interesting.

@@rockcastlemusic I've tried clear Acrylic spray paint but with mixed results. Sometimes it can chip easily on necks. Maybe I just got unlucky with a bad batch. Thanks for sharing your video and knowledge. ☺👍
