In the 6:15 mark when the presenter said "Fender Japan Traditional are faithful recreations of the classic 60s era Fender Guitars"...I might disagree. 9.5 fretboard radius is not a faithful recreation of the original 60s Fender design.

Just to share my experience on MIJ Fenders : I had 7 strats in my life, including some very nice US strats and a Clapton model. I chose to keep only one, which is a 94 MIJ 62 reissue : the build quality is amazing and it plays extremely well. It is the lightest strat I have (body is basswood), the one with the best natural sustain (kills any of my guitars in this category) and after replacing the electronics and pickups (with Lollar blonde), it is the best sounding one I have. I must add it was already sounding very nicely with the original ceramic pickups and eletronics but given the potential this guitar had, I went for the upgrade.

I have that same aerodyne strat! It's my go-to playing and practice guitar, and just like yourself I won't be parting ways with it any time soon.

It's nice that Fender Japan doesn't produce regulary.
It makes it special and can hold the quality at a high level because these instruments aren't mass produced.
And for Europeans Made in America means nothing.
A European made instrument is far superior an American made instrument due to the lack of good craftmanship, quality control and overall discipline with American made stuff.
    Look at their cars.
Nice to look at from outside but when you look closer the quality and materials are awful.
I used to drive a 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid.
    Worst car ever.
It spend more time in the workshop than i was driving it.
American made means bad quality for me.
Japanese people are OCD when it comes to quality.
    They check everything hundred times.

I have a 86 MIJ Strat. Floyd Rose bridge. Fine quality made guitar but it doesn't sound like a Fender. Sound has no character. My Amp is a Marshall with twin Celestion speakers. 80 watts. I play 'clean' and hate over-gain and all the rubbish overdrive nonsense. Maybe I should change the pick ups ?

I remember when I bought my first Strat about 30 years ago. My local guitar shop had both Japanese and Mexican made models in stock. They were both roughly the same price--about £250!--and I tried them both side by side. I much preferred the Mexico one and ended up buying it. How times change.

    • @DelScully
      @DelScully 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Mexican fenders are great now as well, they went through a rough patch of bad quality for a bit, but within the last few years they have picked up again and are just as good as American made imo for craftsmanship.. Obviously with USA made you get some better parts or wiring but that is it really. Even Squier nowadays are killer compared to what they were back in the day. I got a squier J Mascis JM the other month and it lives up to every other guitar I own.

i have an 09 fender mij aerodyne strat. with out a doubt, my number 1 guitar. sound, craftsmanship, plays like a dream. very nice guitar. black with cream binding. awesome guitar. i bought in a guitar shop in knoxville tn, during a half price sale. i paid 400 dollars for it. have had it since 09. play it everyday. have an 012 american standard strat, very nice guitar, sound, craftsmanship, and plays great also, but not as nice as my aerodyne .neck profile much better and easier to play on my aerodyne. wish i would have found and bought a aerodyne telecaster too. as you know, they discontinued that run of aerodyne guitars. only made them for a few years. also have a mim 020 telecaster HH, which is nice and a mim 021 strat which is also a nice guitar. but without a doubt my aerodyne is my favorite guitar to play. will never let go of it. still has all the original electronics. everyone who has ever played has stated that if i ever want to sell it, they would buy it off of me. but not going to sell it. when and if i ever stop playing, will still have and try to get one of my grandchildren interested in playing. have seen them for sale on internet, what a rare and sought after guitar i have. it is still in excellent shape and plays very very nice.

Because of the covid, it becomes more harder to get a new Fender made in Japan for people who is not live in Japan.
I'm a Chinese and here we got touch with much more kinds and brand of Japanese guitars. Many of them are not expensive and also very nice.
We used to say that Fender Japan was making the worst guitar in the world: they were using the bad woods. But now everything changes. Fender Japan becomes a new taste of Fender: thankes to the high techonic, Fender Japan has a comfortable feeling when you playing. And it has more sweet taste and brighter than other Fender guitar. Its a good choice if you can get one.

You seem to have left out the era from 2000 to around 2020. I have several CIJ (2001 - 2008) models that are incredible instruments. I know the history concerning those years is sketchy, because when I got my 2002 Aerodyne Strat a year ago, I could not find any reliable information on it.

Ive got a few left-handed 90s crafted in Japan Stratocasters. The necks are amazing! Especially on the O series. The bodies are only bass wood though and at least on the left handed ones the electronics are not great. But honestly they are worth it for a proper vintage neck

    Nice riffs man!
It was my Fender Mexico Reissue "Classic" Strat. The '62 model in Shell Pink. I got it out of the local newspaper $450-ish (no case). I remember the guitar was 5-6 years old and a gift to the seller by an ex-girlfriend and he HATED the color so I got a DEAL on it!
A very nice guitar! It was my first vintage reissue guitar. Unlike practically every old or vintage guitar I ever owned it needed no restoration or replacement of modern aftermarket "upgrade" parts so popular then; Schaller, Badass etc. or the craze for the brass hardware folks couldn't wait to add to their old even historic vintage guitars. Although the first Ernie Ball brass replacement Tele saddles were a true GAME CHANGER for Telecaster tone then!
Anyway one day I thought about a possible upgrade myself to the guts of that guitar. Out of curiosity I pulled off it's pickguard. I wasn't sure what I'd find. I expected something along the line of dime pots and other budget electronics in there. I was very pleasantly surprised to find vintage-type 'push-back' cloth wire and a good-quality (five- way) selector switch and of course full-size pots that most closely looked like the ones in my factory stock '66 Tele.
I have since acquired Fender Japan reissue guitars and IMO they are awesome but a collector buddy of mine once told me it's the Fender Mexico reissue instruments that in his words seem to have a "better vibe" than their MIJ counterparts. IMO that's slicing any perceived differences between them kinda thin. I've been more than happy with the attention to detail in reissue Fender guitars from both Mexico and Japan. I haven't ever played an American reissue guitar however, though I know people pay a premium for one of those.

I recently came in possession of a 1989/90 Stratocaster MIJ.
The sound is amazing! Rosewood fret board beautiful body. Now rivals my Telecaster.

I just picked up a 50th anniversary Fender Made in Japan Telecaster that is Indigo with ghost flames and matching pickguard. According to records it was made at the Fujigen plant in 96 to early 97. Beyond that I cannot find any additional info on it. I have scoured You Tube to find a review of it but I cannot find any. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated!

I owned a '72 Reissue Strat (1996). Bought new at a local music store here in the states before Fender stop importing/prohibit sale all MIJ guitars shortly after. Though it is nothing like my American Vintage 70s Strat but nevertheless it is a very nice sounding guitar after I replaced the pickups with DiMarzios.

I own a fender Aerodyne Jazz bass it’s a 2017 model. It’s my favorite bass to play! I own an American P bass too. Tbh, it doesn’t play as nice as my MIJ jazz I’ve thought about selling my American made one.

Hey could you check if the new MIJ strat pickguards are the same as the MIA strat pickguards? There isn’t much of a resource online and it seems to find out the answer I just have to risk it and try to get one on my aerodyne.

I bought a Fender Japan FSR black paisley strat with american vintage pickups last year. It's the best sounding strat I've ever owned. (And I've had seven, including a '74 and an American deluxe) the craftsmanship is flawless, the action is perfect and the fretboard has rolled edges. Very pleased!

Mim fenders are actually decent too just seem to be the lowest price because of the cheap labour i guess they are all made by machine now anyways right so India could easily make as good if they were making fenders not squire

Maybe it’s time for you to watch a factory tour. Like none of it is made by machine.
