A fond memory. Back in the mid 1970s, a friend and I (we were around 10) made candied apples for a school fundraiser bake sale. Neither one of us knew what we were doing and didn't ask for help. We luckily made the candied apples without getting burns, and the were the prettiest candied apples you have ever seen. We proudly took them to the bake sale and sold them for $4.00 an apple. I can't believe anyone bought them for that price. That would probably be equivalent of asking $12.00 per apple now. Surprisingly, we sold every one of them. My friend and I are still best friends after all these years, and talk about this memory every year at this time.

What a lovely memory to be able to share with your friend in person after all those years! Would you believe $5 in 1975 is actually worth $23 in today's money!! But people always pay a premium (and more) for homemade goodies at fundraisers. We made a lot for my children's annual school fairs over the years.

I am a 72-year-old Australian woman and I have such wonderful memories of my mother and her sister making toffee apples as we call them here. It has been quite a few years since I have even thought of them until we went to a celebration of life for a dear friend. Her request was for toffee apples and her friend made some for her, they were wonderful we always used red apples though and not as big as it is hard for children to eat a full big one. Never tried Caramel Apples though, will try them too. Thank you for bringing back the memories. I have always made caramel from condensed milk, my mum used to save up her condensed milk and do a large batch at once. She always cooked them for 3 hours to get a lovely golden colour. They will last forever in the pantry and are so handy. The best caramel ever. My mother had one that had been in the cupboard of our caravan for quite some time. When she opened the can it was a light caramel as they caramelise as the can ages.

My 16 year old granddaughter works at an apple orchard in the bakery/food area. She dipped lots and lots of apples last weekend! They actually have a 5 person assembly line to keep the task moving along quickly. The apples turn out gorgeous, some are basic dips and others having amazingly creative decorations. She also makes and decorates hundreds of donuts each day. She loves her job!

We always threw in some red hots candies in with our candy apple mixture. My daughter has taken a melon baller and used it to carve out little balls of apple and used cocktail sticks to dip them in the caramel and candy mixture . They made the perfect one bite and were really cute on the party buffet table. That way you weren't forced to eat a whole apple covered in caramel or hard candy. Everyone loved them .

Probably the simplest answer to your question is that everyone has different interests. A lot of people, even women, probably don’t get entertained by watching videos like this… Whereas others love it. I personally love it…not because I feel like she’s a friend talking to me through the screen, but she does the things that I wish I could do, but never have had a chance to. So it’s almost like it’s occurring vicariously through her… If that makes sense at all.

Years ago I belonged to a cooking group called Gourmet. We would cook in pairs, had 4 - 5 dinners a year and they all had different themes. Each dinner included a printed menu with all of the recipes and usually also included a favor that the guests could bring home.
One dinner that I co-hosted was a NY theme. We named it The Big Apple. I can’t remember everything we served but our centerpiece was a tray of fancy caramel apples packaged in cellophane bags just like you made. Watching you brought back some fun memories. ❤

I love Josh's choice of words. I have never eaten a caramel or candied apple because I, too, like to control how I eat treats like that. "Control" being the operative word! I do, however, like to dip apples in a caramel sauce. I make a caramel apple bar for my kids and their friends with sliced apples, caramel dipping sauce, and various toppings (chopped nuts, mini m&ms, mini chocolate chips, etc).

@ start a new trend! Bonfire night (Guy Fawkes day) is an observance celebrated on 5 November each year commemorating the failure of the Gunpowder Plot conspirators in 1605 to blow up the Houses of Parliament (the English equivalent of Congress). A life-size effigy dressed in old clothes is placed on top of a huge bonfire prior to it being set alight. Candy apples, we call them toffee apples, and sweet treats are served around the bonfire while fireworks are let off in celebration.

Becky if you are going to boil Condensed Milk , put the tin on it’s side. That way it won’t explode if the pot should run dry. If you stand the tin upright it can form a vacuum between the tin and saucepan

You can put sweetened condensed milk in the instant pot for 45 minutes to make dolce de Leche also. You just fill the instant pot up with water that comes halfway up the can of sweetened condensed milk. Also make sure you place your can on a trivet so that it’s not at the bottom of the instant pot

So fun! We do chocolate covered apples with dairy free chocolate. My little guy can't have dairy or red dye due to allergies but they look so good and LOVE that the dye free Watkins worked well. We use them for things that we don't cook with such good results!

What great memories this video brought back. For many years, we had so many children and adults come to our home to trick-or-treat. One year, we tried to count but stopped when we reached 500. I always made a huge pot of chile or stew to feed the crowd of people that came to our house. I would start the day before and make popcorn balls and caramel apples. I would make about 100 caramel apples. They were the first to go. If you put your sauce pan on a warming plate while dipping the apples, that will help a lot. Dip the apples quickly and place them on the buttered parchment. The caramel is going to pool at the bottom, so trying to prevent that is like trying to rewrite the law of gravity. Dip the apples and put them down. Thanks Becky. I love your videos.

If your using a wide ribbon again as a bow, instead just tie the ribbon in a knot and trim both ribbon ends with the center noth or at a angle ti one side. Have one ribbon end facing uo and the other downward. Its a simple but classic look. Yiur apples look great honey.🍎

Loved Josh’s comments about walnuts in brownies. My husband only likes peanuts too. However, all my Aunts in AL had pecan trees and sent us 15 lbs of shelled nuts every year. If a baked good called for nuts, it was pecans. I bake 25 varieties of Christmas cookies and I use pecan flour, that I make. My husband loves my cookies, he has no idea how many pecans he’s eaten over the years.

The 'candy' apple is known as a 'toffee' apple here in Australia. Red is the most popular colour but I have seen them coloured green but not often. Woolworths (supermarkets) used to sell the red toffee apples, but now they seem to be seen only at the annual Shows/Fairs.

Good advice about the wax. When I made both of these for my kids, back in the day, there was no wax. Would never have even thought of it! Beautiful apples, Becky! The red color is amazing!! For Christmas, I would sometimes make the candy coating, spread it out on a sprayed pan and made glass candy! Just break it up like peanut butter. You can make some green and put a little mint flavoring in it.

I just ordered my ingredients to make the carameled apples today. I LOVE that you used roasted salted peanuts. There is nothing worse than purchasing a caramel apple with peanuts and realizing the peanuts aren't salted. This recipe looks like the caramel isn't going to rip out a filling. I've been looking for a recipe like this, and I was so happy that you made these! Once I make them, I will comment on how they turned out. Thank you, Becky.😊

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Wonderful treat was the candied apples we always had at the fair. Only place I ever saw them. 60ish years ago. Then the memories of making caramel apples every year with my grandma. Bought bags of caramel candy, opened one by one then melted and swirled. Lots easier to have more than one person doing it. One could hold the apples upside down to harden a little while the other could swirl in pot. This has been so much fun Becky! Thanks!😊

Use a silicone spatula and swirl the bottom of the apple against it instead of turning it upside down or shaking it.
