      It's hard. It used to be a DIY channel, we'll give them some time to adjust :-) Maybe next week we'll see more winch action and sail trim action. 😁

    This was one of my favorite of your videos. After all the (somewhat extensive) refitting, finally you are out at sea and making a crossing. I've seen a lot of sailing videos, but this one really showed me what it's like. I liked all the details: how you sleep, how you make food, and what happens when. I know it's repetitive, but don't underestimate how interesting a day-in-the-life montage can be for those of us on land. In other words, consider more videos showing how a day goes on board. It's interesting to see that there's both "work" and free time. And fortunately time for humor! Keep it up!

    Your boat refit has been hugely impressive and the finished article is so well thought out and integrated. My big trip is years away but your channel is a goldmine of ideas and experiences. Great to see you had such a calm (overall) Atlantic crossing.

    Pre-cooking meals reminds me of the old-fashioned TV dinners and the TV tray. This is back in the 1950s when the TV dinner would be in a tin container and cooked in the oven. Yeah, back in the day there was no microwave, no computer or copy machine, no color tv, 3 channels on the B&W tv, and no whole house air conditioner. Yeah baby, you've come a long way with a rice cooker and frozen pre-made entrees in big "burpable" (or not) plastic containers! You even have a lovely wood table/tray in the cockpit. Bon Appetite for the next month! :¬) Webhead USA

    "Love you" are the two words people hardly use as apart from loving and caring it's important saying it too. The keep fit has to be a must for "everyone" as it keeps you healthy physically and mentally epically when it only takes so little time in the day. Love you guys and nice one as always. Thank you.

    This is a great video! Seems like you guys are doing pretty well. I would recommend you clip in your harness when you are alone in the cockpit. Or really any time you are above decks. Clip somewhere where you can't even fall overboard. You don't want to be towed along in the water by your harness. I do like those AIS MOB beacons, too. But the key thing is not to go overboard in the first place.

    • @SailLife
      @SailLife  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We usually do try to clip in if we are in the cockpit on our own. We especially always do on our night watch 👍

    We have an AIS mob on one side of our inflatables and the personal epirb on the other. The AIS is automatic, and you can trigger the epirb in case the boat doesn't come back.
    Next up is to install an AIS in the inflatable DAN bouy.

    Have never crossed an Ocean but sailing up and down the East Coast, as a couple, we found an 8 hr watch rotation worked great. One watch alone , one watch shared. Having spent many years working a four to midnight shift, Ok was very comfortable with a sunset watch. My wife loved a sunup watch. We then shared a sort of normal day together. 16 hours awake, 8 hours sleep. A normal rythme for most folks.

    It's so nice when one is shorter than 6.43 foot or 6.03 as me and my partner its so nice seeing how comfy you are with the space given on your boat. When Eva is sitting totally relaxed on this tiny little cockpit cushion and I try to imagine us being unable after a few minutes to find a relaxed seating position on it somehow I guess if we would be on that boat our followers would do so cause it would look like a comedy show which we should name "anchovies afloat"

    Rice cookers are great! I purchased a $9 one from Walgreen's. The guy who rang up the sale told me to keep track of the receipt because the cheap ones won't last. Well, after eight years of weekly use, it is still working just fine.

    • @william6526
      @william6526 ปีที่แล้ว

      We eat a lot of rice,and since purchasing our rice cooker it makes making perfect rice so easy. From a guy who can burn water being able to put a cup of rice in the rice cooker add the water and push a button then 15 minutes later the alarm sounds and I've got perfectly cooked rice is a miracle.

    Try going to soft blue night lighting instead of red. That's what some folks like the US Navy have done for over 20 years after much research.
    Suitably dim white or LED amber light also works, but the strength of the light becomes more important. Blue will not affect your night vision.

    if you want to drill into stainless steel buy drill bits made of cobalt, get a set of all sizes, and a bunch of 1/8"bits for starters. they are more expensive but cut into stainless steel like butter, do not use titanium or black oxide only cobalt cobalt cobalt.

    7 years of sailing around the world and yes, the "gusts" are usually the reality of the wind when you are off shore. My other general rule, is if the forecast is 10 kts or more add 5 kts. If 10 kts or less, subtract 5kts. The higher the wind forecast the more you should add. 30 kts will be closer to 40kts in reality.
