- This is how you catch GIANT MANGROVE SNAPPER!! In this episode I head out kayak fishing Navarre Florida for Giant red snapper and Mangrove Snapper. We kayaked 2 miles offshore to a nearby reef and instantly hooked up on giant snapper! Check the video out and see how I like to catch giant snapper!

Man, I can feel your excitement that moment when you realize it was a mangrove. There's something special about those guys. Kinda like when a big flounder first comes up. Can't explain it. It's insane realizing how big those mangroves can get though. With my tournament work I get to see a lot over 30". I can imagine catching one like that....

I was out on our alantic reefs used fresh water shrimp lure in the salt water i was smacking them also ended up with a nice trigger fish people thought u was being them till i showed them there mouth dropped that was the biggest reward for me the non belivers

I haven't been snapper fishing since they messed up the season what 8 -10 years ago and I see the reds still are not that much bigger. Nice job with the huge mangrove but a heavier pole would be better for bottom fishing.

Awesome fishing. loved the video. Have you considered moving the fish finder to the right side because you always seem to fight the fish on the left. then you wouldn't have to worry about keeping the line off of the fish finder.
I have it on my left because I net on my right side.

That grey snapper is a stud. The biggest one I have caught was 12 pounds out of Orange Beach, but rarely see them over 4 or 5 pounds. They pop up on literally any wreck in the area, just not in huge schools like the reds.

What a freakin epic day on the water. Those mangrove snappers were slobs.
I might have done them on the half shell.
Another nice recipe is to take your filets and mix the olive oil and add lemon pepper in a gallon ziplock. Let them sit in the frig for about 45 mins. Then squeeze lime juice in there and let them marinate for another 15 min. Then put them on the grill. Make your tongue beat your brains out it’s so good. I also like to prepare shark steaks that way as well.

The easiest way to catch big snapper in Florida right now is to go out 20+ miles and use live bait. If you want to catch 9" snapper with an occasional keeper,. fish inshore from just about any jetty, pier or bridge. Small live fish for bait are the key.

Biggest gray snapper I caught was 26" in the gulf of Mexico out of Louisiana

My pb mang is 28in n almost 9lbs caught on a shrimp at the mouth of a pass here in Naples
Man that’s a giant! I would definitely think a 28” would be over 9 pounds though but then again I’m a horrible judge of weight and I never have a scale lol
By far I'm sure it's the biggest I'll catch and to catch it inshore is what stumps me cuz here off Naples you have to go over 40 miles offshore just to break 100ft of water

Personaly I would have kept that first snapper because they always taste better than the bigger ones. Thats with any fish though.
I would agree with that for some fish but to me it really depends on what you want to do with the fish.

So the mangroves that I've got and I've seen people catch nearshore are just juveniles compared to that.
Yeah I’m not sure what the deal is with the near shore mangroves but 16” is my PB inshore
