Well isn't how he would fight. This whole actual fight Thor's complaining because he is holding back which is totally what kratos would do. The only way he could beat Thor would be by tapping into his anger to get stronger which is something he outright refuses to do. He would straight up a rather die then use his anger as a power source again. But when Thor threatens kratos's son he does get angry punches Thor in the face and that's what Thor wanted. just to see the power that he hid.
I don't know why people forget that kratos's true God killing power is locked behind his anger.

Nah, Kratos was Shadowboxing and Thor just kept getting in the way of his fists. with this level of skill, Kratos would rip Thor in half like a piece of paper.
The devs and the graphic designers need a medal. Because the moment Thor mentions Atreus, you can see the Ghost of Sparta spring to life, like if you look at Kratos's face his eyes just widen and become fiercer, that's the same look he gave to Zeus.
It's small details like these that have a huge impact on the scene.

It’s the same moment that happened in God of War 2018. Baldur mentions “whoever you have stashed away in that house” and Kratos explodes with rage knowing Atreus is in there.

I always liked that Thor acknowledges Kratos is holding back, and is even able to tell. No one else acknowledges this or probably even knows (besides Odin of course). Freya likely doesn't know judging from the dialogue we get with her throughout the game.
Yes the whole game he holds back and I hope that in the next game we get one more chance to see Kratos go all out

2:20 this was awesome, timing your axe throw with the his hammer throw. I wish there was a cool mechanic where if you timed the throw right like that, both the weapons would collide and stay locked like in the cutscene. Great showcase!

One of the coolest things I've seen in this game is watching Mauler play the last fight against Thor and accidently use the time slow ability right as Thor called back his hammer and then raced mjolnir back to Thor side by side.

TBH...I would have preferred if the frozen lightning is but one of the many clashes between Thor and Jormungandr. Besides, the clash between Thor and Laufey kind of defeats the point of her reputed elusiveness that left Thor frustrated to never have a chance to fight the warrior.

I loved Thor as a character and the all empathy thing, but ngl I would have liked to see more, in the first fight he flies away at the best moment... and in the last fight he "surrenders"
personally the fights with him have never satisfied me, Maybe Kratos is too strong for him? Or maybe doing everything in a single chapter didn't allow for that... idk maybe I'm wrong.

The combat is so good. I can only imagine how much more fun I'd have if I could pull off the dodging and combos you do. The game is moving so fast it looks like it's about to glitch out, haha! Amazing stuff! Please do some tutorials on how we can pull off some of this stuff!

With all the talk of "seeing the true monster" and "seeing the god I once was" , I was hoping for a big cinematic scene of Kratos going full-rage. Like his regular rage , but just able to break the wall of Asgard or throw Thor Ike Thor does him.

Agree. I was waiting for it the whole game, it was a let down. I understand the pacifist direction they're taking but they could have had that moment. I prefer Kratos as a character who can destroy you, but chooses not to, which he is but isn't shown enough
Legitimately thought up until the point Surtr actually transformed that he was just going to imbue Kratos’s blades with his powers and it’d be up to Kratos to cleave down the wall with his godly strength and fury. Still alright with how it played out, but I was so ready for the blades of chaos to burn the wall down.

It's cool to know that even when fighting lore accurate Kratos, Thor still manages to merc him only to bring him back to fight him some more. Really shows that Thor was also very strong lorewise.
I think it's safe to say Thor, in terms of pure strength, that is just sheer ability to break things and hurt people, was stronger than Kratos. Kratos might be the better fighter, but absolute power? Thor's got him beat. We only saw a little bit of it, but his mastery of lightning really shouldn't be ignored. It was apparently enough that even Heimdalr realized he couldn't dodge it.

I don't feel like we saw Thor in his best in this game. Don't get me wrong, he's portrayed damn straight perfect. I just wish we had gotten to see him at his best in battle. Hopefully we'll see more of Mjollnir from Thrud in later games. There's just so much creativity to be had with that weapon's lore

5:59 i like the detail in hjs move set the first attack(yellow) had less force cause of thors weaker swing along with his waist and hand arm coordination but the second attack right after(red) Was unblockable or parriable due to his better swing cause of his arm and waist coordination + the fact that hes also relying on mjolnirs weight since its gravity is focused on its end instead of being equally heavy on all sides just like an axe
6:50 also love how kratos grasps thors arm when he mentions atreus as if hes saying "why'd you mention my son?" And once thor reveals odin has plans for atreus he grips tighter and releases himself from thor to swing that devastating punch after comfirming atreus is in danger

Not really that’s wrong and not lore accurate at all
Kratos was weaker than Thor at the start and even when he holds back less only did basic damage nothing impressive to Thor.
The final fight Kratos doesn’t hold back anymore cuz Thor is threatening his son but he isn’t letting the rage take him over cuz he wants to change the outcome, they had a lot of even clashes and Kratos barely overpowers him it wasn’t a stomp at all, he won cuz he damaged Thor’s hammer hand. The fact Thor can even kill Kratos temporarily shows he isn’t so inferior.
And let’s not forget that if Kratos didn’t change himself or how he went about the fight the prophecy said Thor would of killed him so no Thor isn’t massively weaker at all.
People need to stop downplaying the Norse Gods and dick riding the Greek Gods, Old man Kratos isn’t weak.

@@1nonlyAV That’s Cory and it’s referring to the random fodder enemies not the bosses cuz he’s talking about how game mechanics and balance is needed to make the games fun and challenging even when it isn’t always lore accurate just like struggling the chest and doors and etc.
So no you can’t use that to downplay the gods in the Norse games, the lore disagrees and Cory disagrees on them being weak even says current Kratos is stronger than his younger self, there’s more that backs up Norse being stronger as well if people actually pay attention but not many do and even less know how to power scale, so that’s not true at all.

I have one problem with the Thor fight the first encounter is epic its like holy shit exactly like baulder when you first encounter him and then the final fight is like meh will add some elemental effects to these guys and call it a day both Thor and baulder second fights lacked the impact of the first fights other than that this is amazing
