It should, as long as you know the password for the WiFi you want to extend.

No. only at the time of setting up the device before starting.Once you save the id and password for the repeater then you don't need the app.But next to make any changes you need the app again.
I can't seem to find the device by manual or by search nearby. I tried to reset the Mi WiFi Repeater 2 by using PIN but the color doesn't change no matter how many times I tried it.

yes you can.After configuring for the first time you can set different id and password for your WiFi repeater from your main router.

This used to be working for me. When I changed routers and provider, it won't setup anymore and keeps getting stuck at the last part where it says to bring it nearer to the router. I don't know how near is near, but it's in the same room with the router so I don't know what it's on about. I'm close to throwing it out the window.
I also have one, gifted from a friend, and it's like they took this device out of the app so they no longer work. I wonder why.

Hi I’ve followed the instructions and I’m using an iPhone to set it up but after everything it fails to connect and there will just be a steady blue light on the wifi extender. What should I do?
At the time of set up plug the repeater near your router. Where have you stuck? Please mention it. Have you found your repeaters name in Mi home app? If it's not able to find then you can manually search your repeater. In Mi home app there is a plus (+) sign in top right corner, tapping there you can find option to search your device manually. You just need to type the WiFi repeater. And it will appear. Then select it. It will automatically detect.
Be careful , your phone should be connected with the router at the time of set up and your repeaters led should be a blinking yellow light.

Be options about the light behavior wether its a blinking blue light or steady blue light etc. Mine is steady blue light.

SOLUTION: change your location/server in the mi home app to mainland China and it will fix the issue.

sign in means, you need to sign in Mi home app first with your Mi account.This is mandatory to use the repeater. Then you search for your neighbours wifi and put their password. It will work.

Obviously,Its using the internet from your main router .Your main router is sharing the bandwidth with this device, so definetely main router will be slow down.
I have been using this device but it has been disconnecting numerous times now After resetting the device the device is been identified but its not connecting and hence the yellow light blinks

Hlo i bought the device and used the app to connect repeater to wifi and it repeated successfully but while adding device it always fails at step 3. i.e. connecting device to network, it says time out but the device repeats successfully. Because of fail in step 3. Repeater is not added in App thus I cant change the settings of repeated wifi. Am stuck with defultname_plus and default password. Is it the app bug or repeater problem??
try to add the repeater into the app by manually. At the time of adding keep the repeater close to your router. And select manually.There is a plus sign , touch it and you will find all smart devices of Mi. If nothing happened then change the region into china and then search for the repeater.

You haven't shown nor mentioned the main issue with these repeaters: how to configure them to use the SAME WiFi network name (SSID) as the router. All what these thingies do is create a subnetwork next to the real one with a different name; this way all connections to the Xiaomi repeaters are no longer visible on the main WLAN router... A real REPEATER "repeats" the WLAN SSID, this one does not, or am I wrong?
Well for what it is worth: when using the Mi Home app I now see an option toggle switch to use the same SSID name, and it seems to work. When I tried this years ago after buying some of these $6 mini repeaters, I could only use them as extenders with a unique own SSID name.
So all is good, maybe include this hint of using IDENTICAL names for WLAN, via the switch function, thanks!

It should not be, you should at least find the WiFi repeater 2 name in manual search.

yes you can.It will expand the range of the WiFi, but it will not work as WiFi modem. that means you need to have hardware in your computer to access WiFi.

It does, I saw a different video explaining you have to switch the region to Hong Kong because the other regions won't show the actual extender you are using.

How to change new name n pasword?
plug in the repeater and turn on WiFi in your device. Then go to Mi home app.If your device is already setup then select it and you will find out the option to change the name and password.
