I have a catalogue 'Gold of the Pharaohs' from an exhibition(3 months in 1988) in Edinburgh of Treasures from Tanis...they are fantastic as u say unfortunately i didn't get to that exhibition but i was lucky enough to see king Tuts treasure in London in the early seventies 😀
I’m thinking they began scratching their names into these amazing artefacts to give ownership, due to the fact that following pharaohs reclaimed their burial goods & used them for themselves……?
Hello Janet, indeed it was common in ancient Egypt for a pharaoh to appropriate the achievement of his predecessor by engraving his name on top. Your remark is therefore very relevant 🙏
