    We sure need a new video about shoe drops. This subject is so controversial and complicated and I will be happy to hear your updated opinion!(already saw your old vid)

    • @QronoZ713
      @QronoZ713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something everyone forgets regarding drop: It's useless to compare a hard midsole 10 mm drop to a soft midsole 10 mm drop. It's LOADED DROP that matters!
      A soft shoe, when you stand on it might be closer to a 5 mm actual drop.
      There is a huuuuge difference between for example my Peg 37s (soft 10mm drop) and my NB 1400v6 (hard 10mm drop).

    • @rhoynarr
      @rhoynarr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@QronoZ713 But if the midsole has the same foam density from heel to toes, isn't it supposed to stay in the same proportion when applying pressure on it? or maybe the pressure in the heel section is greater?
      But I don't heel strike so I doubt that there's more pressure in my heel than in my forefoot...

      @@rhoynarr Really good point, keen observation. I'm not a biomechanist, or pediatritian, but I've heard it from one. And from what I can recall, it's that the pressure is greater in the heel area. If you're standing upright, with a high drop, you'll inevitably put more pressure on the heel to sort of level off your stance.

    • @QronoZ713
      @QronoZ713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But also, just try it for yourself and you'll notice a big difference.

    I will start with the fact that I don’t have different shoes for: racing, tempo days, easy days, daily trainers etc. With that being said, if I can get even remotely close to 700 miles out of a shoe, I will gladly pay $160! I second the call for a video on shoe drops! Thanks for another great vlog Seth!

    QD: Novablast is definitely my favourite Asics as it was shoe choice for my first sub4 marathon. Didn't lose my toenails as enough room just one blister for each first toe which didn't take time to heal up ☺️

    I understand about the price point but if I can spend $160 for 700 miles that’s better than buying two shoes at $110 that only would last 350 - 400 miles

    • @justinmayes5455
      @justinmayes5455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris Thomason kinda debatable depending on the type of runner you are. There are just so many daily trainer options for so much less. Asics just usually overcharges for their high end stability shoes

      I mostly agree with you, but long lasting shoes are also a curse for those of us who get bored of running in the same darn thing. There are shoes I want to retire but they keep on ticking :/

    • @baltsu
      @baltsu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      better not to trust anything anyone says about durability. It doesn't matter how the outsole or upper looks if the midsole is dead. For example there were pieces flying from the Hoka Clifton 6 outsole after 600k but the shoe was comfortable until 1000k and I could have continued to wear it, whereas the Nike Vomero 14 looked brand new after 500 mls, there was no wear or tear anywhere but the shoe felt dead already after 700k and I hated running in it from 700-800k and retired the shoe once it reached the 500 mls mark. I could see the difference very well because I had another, new Vomero pair to compare it to. I think that the biggest misconception about running shoes is the question how long a shoe pair lasts. Many people are measuring wrong factors. Many shoes that Seth for example is saying having a low quality, are perfectly fine after 500 or 600 mls and if you want to you can get 600 or 700 mls out of basically any pair but at the end the comfort level might be a problem. It doesn't matter if the shoe becomes slower and loses the springiness or responsiveness because one can wear a slow shoe for recovery runs but if the midsole becomes completely lifeless or hard like a brick then that pair of running shoe is not enjoyable anymore unless you run on a very soft and bouncy surface.

    Hi @sethdemoor
    Just a thought to share on your latest Asics review:
    I think it incorrect or contradictory when you say that a shoe can go 700 miles but then criticise the cost. If a shoe can maybe last 700 miles, that's a lot of miles for a regular runner and a that's a shoe that will last a few years, a higher prices shows great value. It may even encourage people to reduce their throw away culture.

    • @greggg4781
      @greggg4781 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lee - This is a great comment, and I concur. 700 miles is a lot! I've worn $120-$130 shoes that made it to half that. Also, your point about the throwaway culture is right on. Here, they're selling a shoe that will last longer AND is made from recyclable materials.

    • @QronoZ713
      @QronoZ713 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very much agree. A pair of Atreyu, for 70 bucks that'll last 200 miles is a horrbile price per km!! Meanwhile a Nike Infinity Run might last 700+ miles, and cost 150 bucks is a much better deal!

    Hi Seth, I do believe you should rethink your scoring criteria’s according to the « category/objective » of the shoe, if a shoe is not meant for racing (a daily trainer for instance), it is quite normal that it is heavier than a racing shoe, and therefor it should score better than other daily trainers (not put it against light racing shoes), I’m not talking about this review in particular but i think you should not compare apples & oranges but compare a shoe to a standard of that category, if this makes any sense !

I'm just at a point where I want more out of my running shoe, so I'm moving on. Personally, I think the Kayanos especially are for runners that only want one shoe to run comfortably and safely for a couple of years. It kind of gets a bad rep and the price is pretty steep but they really go the distance.

    QD: I tried the Novablast on a couple days ago as a potential replacement when my Ride 13s die. The roads here in Tucson, AZ chewed up the outsole rubber FAST, so I'm looking for something durable. My impression was HIGH build quality but the outsole rubber is on the thin side(though I think it's AHAR as well). These Kayano look to be the better choice for rugged roads. Even though the price is high, they could potentially double the life of the Novablast, based on outsole rubber alone. Plus there's no weird shelf on the heel. Some considerations to be made. Thanks, Seth.

    I have been using a lot my Asics Gel-Nimbus 22. I tried to run more with my Asics Nova Blast but since I'm still not fully recovered from an injury in my left foot ,I feel better running with a shoe with more stability and less vibration from impact . Once my left foot is 100% healed and strong I will do back to "tame" the instability of my Nova Blast that is an amazing comfortable and helps me run faster then a Nimbus. That's for sure !

  • @iberiksoderblom
    @iberiksoderblom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Think they have a sound like swimming flippers...
    Yes do something about drops !!!
    For many years I have used shoes with high drops. Mostly Asics...
    As I grew older, my achilles tendons began to hurt and hurt and hurt more.
    After many years I stumpled acros a man that actually knew what to do.
    Part of that was accepting that my achilles tendons will require constant special attention and training for the rest of my life.
    Another thing was to loose high drop shoes !
    So I gradually startet to use shoes with 0 to max 5 mm drop (I have one pair with 6mm drop...), and alternating frequently between them and stay away from concrete and asphalt as much as possible.
    Its been a two year proces so far and I still feel improvements.
    From hardly being able to walk to doing 50K+ ultraruns almost without negative sideeffects !
    The high drop weakens you and ruins natural posture and gait.
    As you grow older it leaves a negative effect.
    There is a reason we where not created with high drop feet !!!

They are for joggers who go to a sporting goods store every spring and want a shoe for everything (jogging, walking with the wife, taking kids to a park, going to a supermarket). I mostly valuate my shoes based on the $/mile basis. So if 700 mile prediction is correct, that comes to 0.23 cents per mile - anything in the 20s is pretty good. If one can get a club discount or be one of those runners that can get 1000 miles out of a shoe, then it would certainly be well worth the $160.

    QD:
    Interesting that we're talking about another Asics "Lite" shoe today. My favorite Asics (and it barely beat out the Novablast) is the Nimbus Lite. I was surprised that the Kayano Lite didn't debut along with that shoe. The Nimbus Lite is my easy day shoe and it works well for that purpose. Same drop as the KL, but the stack height is 5mm higher. Comparing my efforts at the durometer test to this video, the midsole seems a lot softer.
    My beef with both shoes is the same. These shouldn't be the "Lite" versions--they should be the regular versions of their respective lines. Even though the Nimbus Lite is a bit lighter, it's still not a light shoe by any means. From the video, it appears they screwed up in the same place on both shoes--the heel counter. I don't understand why it's so stout on the lighter version of the shoe. Certainly, those could've been reduced to make the sure lighter, and although I like the plushness, it doesn't have to be THAT plush. Hey, Asics -next year, make these the regular versions and truly come out with an 8-8.5 ounce lite version of both shoes.
    Yes, I just knocked my favorite Asics shoe of the year, but I still love them. I just wish they were what they should have been.

    Went out on a run for the first time in the Kayano Lite today -- so painful that i had to turn back and walk. The right side of the right shoe was bruising my lower ankle so badly and no matter how many times i stopped to adjust the laces, socks, positioning of my foot, nothing could ease the pain. Got back to the house, swapped shoes (asics glideride), and went back out -- zero pain. I wanted to like the Kayano Lite but it's not happening. these are getting returned.

    QD: The Novablast is my nr. 1 favoride. I love that shoe because it makes daily runs faster with little effort. Just amazing cushioning. However, I also enjoy running in the Evoride. It's great for uptempos for example or any run where I want to pick-up the pace a little bit. Metaracer is of course nice too. I would have used it but the injury screwed up things with racing shoes. Others I don't like. For example the Dynablast is kind of a terrible shoe. Looks bad because the upper is uglier than a grandma's coach, has a too high drop, doesn't provide the trampoline effect that the Novablast has and isn't fast feeling like the Evoride is. I think that one is for joggers or walkers. Nimbus, Kayano, Cumulus, GT, DS-Trainer etc., aka the traditional Asics models I haven't bothered to test because they are just not modern enough and the newer Nimbus Lite didn't arrive here at all.

    Terrific shoe. As a trainer or a mathaton shoe. We DO NOT need "high stack ehight and max cush". Going that route you sacrifice stability and nimbleness. And having more comfort inside the shoe prevents rubbing of the foot...something no one wants during any run....training or marathon. WIch is what happens the thinner the material used for the uppger e.g. mesh/see-through.
    I think companies are just getting lazy and greedy when choosing what kind of material to use for the upper. You can still get ""enough breathabilty" using "knit based" material. Just takes more time/money developing/testing/manuf.... Hmmm....a single layer of THIN mesh vs a 2 or 3 layer knit WITH "enough" breathability...hmmm...
    THis shoe is on my short-list... "flats baby!1" :)

    Looking forward to getting hold of and reviewing this shoe once it's released here in the UK (why do Asics release their shoes so much later in the UK?). Interesting what you said about the AHAR on the mid foot area. I think they have done the same thing on the Kayano 27, making the mid foot rubber softer than at the rear/heel area. If so I very much doubt I'll get 700 miles out of the shoe. The AHAR on the mid foot area of the Kayano 27 is wearing excessively after on 200 miles! Do like the idea that Asics have completely re-engineered this stability shoe and agree, the price is too high. Can't help thinking that the Asics marketing department is using the Kayano name (on what is a competely different shoe) to hike the price.

    I wear regular Kayano 27s, switched from Peg, overpronation, low arches and inner side knee tendonitis. At first, everything bothered me, clunkers, stiff, but my knees and joints were relieved. Having ran a couple of months now I tried Pegasus again, it felt like a sock in front and my leg was literally vibrating from hitting the ground. Went back to Kayanos, and they felt much faster. I am looking for a race day stability shoe, but also something to keep me injury free. These K lite looked the part, shaving off regular Kayanos 300+grams is easy, but now I'm wondering if there is something even better out there?

      I had the kayano 26 and ran with it loads.. almost 1800km with no real problem. I just bought the GT-2000 because I can't spend so much atm. I am happy with both but the Kayano are a little wider, so a little comfier I'd say. If I could I'd have a pair of each to rotate. But I would definitely say that the Kayano are worth the money.

    I was sadly disappointed in this shoe. I ran in them a few weeks ago but returned them. I found the midsole waaay too stiff for my legs. Love the stability and the weight for a stability shoe, but that’s about all I ended up liking. :(

    Even though it may technically be a 2019 shoe, still loving the gliderides. Believe mine are at 375 miles and still feeling great. Not quite the same forefoot cushion roll feel but still plenty for the longer runs. Excited to see how asics updates this model. Hopefully we will hear something in the next few months

      I’ve ran a lot in the Fujitrabuco Pro this year, and also the Fujitrabuco 8 and Gel Venture 7 (entry level stable trail shoe). The Fujitrabuco Pro is excellent, great grip in all trail conditions I’ve encountered and nimble on technical trails. I’m an ASICS fan but not slavishly devoted.
