Watching some of these games when Man U was in its pomp, there are three things that are really striking. The first is the names of such very gifted players - Giggs, Kanchelskis, Cantona, Beckham, Butt, Scholes, Neville, Irwin, Cole, Ince etc.The second is the pairings at the heart of defence - Bruce/Pallister, Ferdinand/Vidic, Brown/O’Shea. Finally, there is the amazing work ethic. The players hunt down every ball when the opposition is in possession. When Man U is in possession every player makes space for a pass. If they lose possession they get back so fast the opposition is closed down.
Oh for such glory days again. And oh for such names.
