The first leg of Euro Cup semi against Real Madrid had been played but once in California, football as I knew it, ceased to exist. From family correspondence I eventually learned, via a snippet of a sentence, that Man U had won the 68 Euro Cup final but it would be the early 1990's before the Los Angeles Times started providing the scores of the English first division from Saturday followed (with the launch of the Premier League) by a sports oriented cableTV channel that primarily existed to air the home games of the LA Lakers basketball that somewhat randomly (you couldn't assume a particular day or time) inserted the hour long Sky Sports Premier league highlights show as filler. Finally a glimpse of real football. The last time I'd watched United they were on top and after 25 years here they were still on top. Kanchelskis impressed me to no end, as did Schmeichal. Then we moved from Los Angeles to San Diego and another (albeit brief) period of being in the dark. Finally a San Diego channel picked up the Premier League show. Where's Kanchelskis?
