Incredible talent, perfect technique, his run up does not slow at all into the throw. Unbeatable. So many muscled up throwers these days. Lots of big talk and predictions. So many with one or two or a few big throws and then they fade away. Zelezny is legend.

kimmern999 Because athletes wouldn't eat that. There is no benefit at all. It will only set them back, and athletes don't have their whole life to train for the Olympics(or whatever competition).
Tom Visser Not true at all. There are many top athletes that are more concerned about getting the needed calories than eating what people label "healthy". Mostly long distance runners and athletes competing in weight categories (like weightlifting, boxing or olympic wrestling) need to watch their weight and thus watch their diet carefully. In sports where it is more important than to build muscles/mass or make sure to keep up with the energy consumption, calorie intake is more important than anything. Besides, there are a lot of calory rich McDonalds/Burger King dishes that are not particularly unhealthy.
Zelezny: 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Judges: Oh dude, you just missed the world record! So close! Zelezny: Hold my beer. What a legend. I did not realize this until recently but he very nearly won 4 Olympic titles in a row. He won in ‘92, ‘96 and ‘00 and was just 16 centimeters from gold in ‘88. Wow.
Maybe javelin is not as populair amongst great audiences, but does that make them better sporters? Because in that case the greatest sporters would be all football players since they get the most attention in the world... Bolt has shown dominance over a couple of years and speeds people could never imagine, but Zelezny shown distances far greater than any big javelin thrower has ever achieved (with the modern javelin at least). I think it's really hard to compare!
Yes, hence the "(in comparison)".......-.- 2nd best javelin thrower ever (with the latest model) is roughly 5.5% worse than the best javelin thrower of all time. Let's say the same difference in performance would occur on the 100m. Usain Bolt is the fastest man ever and runs it in 9.58s. If he was as dominant as Zelezny then the 2nd fastest man ever over 100m would only do 10.11s... Puts stuff in to perspective doesn't it? (rough estimates sorry internet)
***** same rules same javelins go wikipedia for it. these 2 throws are 2. and 3. best throws in the world. He ofc has the WR 98.48 also thrown with modern days javelin.
Yeah, but you can't say that it's easier to beat Usain Bolt then to beat Jan Zelezny. I also think it's more likely the world record of Bolt will be broken than the WR of Zelezny, since people like Gay has run pretty close to the WR, while in javelin throw noone came within 5m of the WR ever
No way man, I'm Greek and I'm telling you, Zelezny is probably in the top 10 of athletes ever, across all sports. Bolt is not and I agree with the other guy here, Johan Blake's ridiculous progress makes Bolt look guilty by association, sorry.
I wonder how far Zelezny's throws would've gone with the older spec javelin. Safe to say that change was needed considering even the new one threatened Jim Rosenthal's position and he'd throw 3m further than this...
How can you say that, because more people run the 100m in general? So football has the highest level of competition in the world? I'm not sure about that
Does anyone know if this was a competition with 4 or 6 rounds? I know Zelezny threw 87.06, 95.34, 95.66, and 89.02 in this competition. But I don't know about the 2 other throws (if there were any) Were they foul? Anyone who's got any info on this?

Probably not since it's a tragic accident and a failure on the organizers part. Tero Pitkämäki didn't get charged with anything when he actually did hit another athlete with a stray javelin. It was on friday 13 july 2007. He hit Salim Sdiri, a French long jumper.
