Shim Mold Making Part 2: Brush-on Resin Mother Mold

    This is part 2 of my 2 part series on multi-piece molds using shims. In this tutorial I create the resin mother mold and then open the mold and prepare it for casting. If you missed part one, you will definitely need to watch it for this video to make any sense!

    The key to this mother-mold technique is a good, brushable resin. In previous tutorials I have shown how to thicken resins like TC-804 with Fiberthick. This approach works, or you can do what I did in this video: use BR-75D, a self-thickening resin formula. BR-75D mixes 1:1 and becomes a paste consistency. For really thick applications I thicken BR-75D even more using FiberThick.

    I didn't do this in the video, but pigment may be added to the BR-75D resin to differentiate layers, much like what I did as I made the brush-on silicone mold. Here's a link to the Polyurethane pigments:
