I like the concept of the two heads. Maybe pouring the coloured side first then painting a neutral or mirror colour on the flat and then pouring the clear?
Yes, the polar bear was definitely my favourite. A paler blue would look great. I think a clear bear with pale blue and grey shards could be interesting too.

A little pro tip for the split sculptures with a flat, symmetrical split: if you make the seam between the two halves white (layer of paint, vinyl, resin pigment, whatever floats your boat) the 'clear' side will pop WAY more as a clear, standalone half. If you make the seam black, and REALLY push the gloss on that clear half, it will look stunning with even a slight light around, under, or behind it. Either way, putting a solid white or black barrier between the two halves will make the clear half look 'correct'; whether you like the dark contrast from a black barrier or the almost self-illuminating look of a white barrier, that's all up to artist's choice and intent! I'd definitely recommend testing this method out. (I once tested it by pouring a small creature in clear, then cut it down the middle with a band saw, painted one flat face white and the other black, then re-joined them with some ca glue and honestly that look was more wild than I was expecting!)
@@BMSculptures I may or may not have accidentally discovered that technique when I dropped a clear sculpture and it cracked in half almost along the middle. My attempt to glue it back together left a white layer between the two halves. Crazy how the wildest accidents can lead to cool discoveries :)
What about a mirrored divide? Cut a piece of the mirrored acrylic on your laser that is the same profile, bevel the edges, glue it to the clear half before pouring the dark half. The bevel would make it form a sharper corner with the coloured resin so you don't see the thickness of the sheet.
@@averyshred A fine idea, though you'd have to match the refraction of your mirror material and your resin pretty well, which I think can be pretty challenging!
Very often resin has a yellow tint to it, to even it out and make it even more clear people usually put some purple in it, since these colors cancel each other out. That could be why you got a greenish brown

First, Respect! HUGE life/career change. I just discovered you and haven't had a chance to watch any of your other vids, but I'm looking forward to it. I have worked with resin/epoxy for years, long before it became the "in" thing to use. My favorite was the mirror sliced rhino. My father’s favorite animal was the rhino. Now that he’s gone, I can’t see a rhino without thinking of him. Love Love this one. But truthfully , they all were awesome. Love your work. Looking forward to the next one!
Hi Blake! I really enjoyed this video! I love experiments! I like the slicing idea too. Anything to save time. Maybe you could make small blanks of the different ice colors for future reference. A lot of people also make reference pieces of resin with all the inks and colorants so they know what colors they have and what the colors look like with different amounts of drops or scoops of color. You could mix colors too, so that you know what you have. I loved your daughters Halloween decor the best. Yall spending time is so cool! I love squirrels because I raised one. So if I had a choice of what to carve. Of course it would be a squirrel!
Hey Tracy! I think making small blanks would be a good idea. Glad you liked the zombie alien, this and after my skulls from a couple videos ago- we are about to have a eventful halloween haha. Squirrel would be tough with the fluffiness on the tail!
I love your sculpts, the process and reveals. I've particularly enjoyed your work with resin and wood. I'd love to see that combo with a wooden Cross, partial wooden man at the base with perhaps the start of his backbone, ribs and heart in wood. With the rest of the body in clear resin. The man would be in a kneeling position of prayer before the cross. Thanks and keep up the great work.
I love that while you are experimenting with different materials and method, you are not afraid to show failures. One feature I might suggest for mold casting is the use of sprues and vents. For example, a vent on the chin could allow excess air to eacape predictably. A little more finishing needed at the end. But if the objective is a clear pour, the predictability is worth the trade off.
These sculptures are super cool! When you were talking about using different coloured epoxy shards, the first thing that jumped to mind was using it to carve actual dual-coloured animals. Like black shards in clear/white resin to carve a zebra, or black and yellow for a huge wasp or bee
Don’t know if someone already said this (to many comments) , but using the plastic to create lines gives them a softer, rounder look. Side not, the background noise/music around 15 minutes in is irritating to my ears, I’m autistic and sensitive to certain sounds. No criticism of you but just wanted to let you know. I enjoy your videos and enjoy listening to your narration
“Satisfaction is the death of desire.” Keep pushing yourself my brother! Love the videos!! Small tip, as someone who’s worked with this material before. When adding pigments, a little goes a long way! Try one or two drops at most and stir to see what it does! Can’t wait for more content!!
The rhino is so cool!! I would love to see if you can apply it to the life-size sculptures like you want, or if it's impossible. The scientist in me is excited about your experiment journey!
Great sculptures as always. The polar bear was my favourite, and I agree that maybe darker shards in clear resin would look great too. Maybe snowflake shaped white shards in a darker resin could be interesting? The rhino was great too. It would be great to see you do a green sea turtle in wood and resin. Maybe swimming through kelp?
Love all 3 of these. The polar was my favorite. I would definitely find a way to get the pieces that look like ice to show more. Would be cool I think. Hope all is well and love the channel.

I'm an environmental scientist, and your polar bear sculputure really speaks to me on a deep metaphorical level. A plastic polar bear embedded with plastic water and plastic crumbling ice shows our human damage to its native enviroment; melting ice everywhere due to the petroleum industry, and real polar bears being clogged with petrochemical plastic as a result of being at the top of the food chain: plankton eating fish eat plastic, then get eaten by bigger fish and seals, and then getting eaten by polar bears, whose bodies cannot get rid of the plastic they consume. I don't know if that was your intended message, but I love it all the same

Your dedication, problem-solving skills, and artistic abilities are incredible! I love then all, but my two favorites would have to be the icecube polar bear, and the book ends!
WOW I think each piece is as good as the next. Your daughter did a brilliant job of the zombie/alien takes after her dad, I love been surprised what you come up with so I look forward to each video xxx
This was a fantastic video Blake! You're a very talented versatile artist, the ease in which you sculpted the clay was amazing 👏 my favourite was the sliced rhino, the possibilities are endless with that style, i do hope you repeat this using various wood species, i think that would have a lot of potential! Keep up the wonderful work!
There is a product that I believe is called "mirror effect" or something close. It's basically a spray paint that can be painted on the backside of glass to create a mirror and it works pretty well. I think on your split sculpture if you put a barrier coat between the two halves so that you could block the reflection it could help. Possibly with the mirror effect although I'm not very familiar with epoxy molds and if a barrier coat would affect the adherence but since you you were asking for ideas thats what came to mind when i saw how it turned out. Cool stuff you are doing, I like how you just roll with ideas and experiments and how you show the pitfalls and mistakes. A lot of people would just scrap the idea and it would never make it out for anyone to see And creating art is full of pitfalls and mistakes. Very encouraging.
4:52 I’m a digital artist and faces are my strong suit, I’m *really* good at faces and always have been. As such, it never occurred to me that not many artists would find faces to be easy Also, I adore how you used that failed mold as a bonding experience with your daughter, I know she would have been so thrilled
I saw this in suggestion s, re: termite bear and fell down the rabbit hole. Your talent, words... There are none. Its your patience, determination, foresight and willing to be napalmed i just couldnt leave.
Wow I really like these kinds of videos with all the experimenting. I think I liked the Polar Bear the best, if the blue color was a bit lighter, like you wanted it to be it would probably really look like ice! Also thanks for the life lesson with the baseball analogy 😅
I love this use of the two piece head as bookends! I think my favorite experiment was the polar bear though. I wonder if the blue had been a touch more transparent if the clear shards would have shown up better. Great video!
T and I love the Polar bear best!!! All of these concepts are cool and loved the video. Made her day when she heard there was a new BM waiting for her/us tonight! She wants to see a full sized horse next. I would love to see something with wings using the shattered epoxy technique. Like a dragonfly, bee, fairy or something with clear/iridescent wings and use a tiny bit of chameleon mica pigment to add a component of iridescence to it!
Blake my god! Those experiments were so educational, that’s what I love about watching your videos. Personally I loved the human/ alien sculpture and I was gonna suggest bookends for the plastic one but you beat me to it. The whole idea of using the slicing method to help you use the time better was genius!!
I love all of those sculptures, my favourite being the polar bear, and the rhino is second. The half and half man to alien sculpture rather gives me an uncomfortable feeling when I look at the whole sculpture as one piece. However, the grey two pieces with the books between was more easy on my mind. I would absolutely LOVE to see.the dark blue shards of plastic inside a clear or clear pale turquoise polar bear, that would look incredible! I watch your videos all the time, because you are living my dream job. I have always wanted to become a sculptor like you. Many things prevent me, mainly my health, so I watch your videos, and dream! Thanks for posting them, they make my day. Have a great week!

I so appreciate your hunger to always improve, to learn, to be a student of your craft. The sculpting part is quite interesting. I'm sure you've heard of Jim McKenzie...if not, you will not be disappointed.
I find it interesting that you feel the need to justify why you are calm and collected. I don't think there is any productivity value to rage fits, only entertainment value, which could make sense in sports but definitely not in a workshop where you are surrounded by stuff you paid for... Anyway I really enjoy your work. Continue being creative and explorative.
all of these are great, I liked how the alien man book holder came out the best. I think one of the most interesting animals is an anteater, it'd be lovely to see you carve an anteater! also, the idea of putting flowers in clear/lightly colored epoxy and incorporating that into a wooden sculpture would look beautiful.
I liked them all. You should try using more white with the blue for the bear, and maybe some white underneath to resemble snowy ground. I wish I had a place to play !! You are lucky!!!
All the sculptures are awesome. Great philosophy about life and mistakes. The polar bear, I really liked the pale bottom. I thought it looked like a neat base to have the rest of the sculpture upon. The human/alien looked rad! I could see many possibilities. You have done a lot of progress for only working with clay once before. The rhino is very cool with the mirrored acrylic. For the insides of the legs, if they do not overlap at the edges of the outer pieces you may be able to invert your cut and have a reflected portion exposed on the inside of the leg. Experiments are great for progressing, as you have shown. Thanks for all the wonderful art!
Love the experimentation. I think the ice concept in rally cool and it could be so many different combinations based on the sculpture itself. Like the ice fir the polar bear, or orange/red/yellow for a volcano/fire, or blue/green for a humming bird etc...
Also a bag round the mold with rice or marbles or beans or pellets poured in around that can take up extra space, so if there are leaks there isn't as much space for the leak to try to fill, and the bag, or two for security, means that substrate can be endlessly re-used. Cat litter would work well too, like that crystal stuff or otherwise.
Hi Blake: When I fuse glass, there are certain colors, that when mixed will turn brown. It has to do with the formulation of the colors. Some are created with sulfur and some with copper. You can't mix copper and sulfur containing colors, or you get brown. Most blues & yellow are such colors. So, check the color formulations you are using. And, I really liked the polar bear the most.
Hey Blake. I taught advanced art for 29 years and used the layering technique with crescent art board to have the students make sculptures of cars that they would sand down into their design and then do the same for the wheels and then drill holes for axles, attach the wheels have them paint the cars and then race in a “derby car” style downhill race in a tournament. Lots of fun.
Ayo, love how you are always experimenting and pushing yourself to learn new things! It makes watching this channel a joy because you can never predict what will happen in the next video! Personally I liked the mirror rino best because I'm a big fan of that technique 👀
I learned something from each one of them so it’s really hard to choose one. I think the concept of the polar bear in reverse is pretty awesome. But the rhinoceros was beautiful. I agree using a clear acrylic might be phenomenal. As for the statue, I loved your excitement of using clay, the ease of use, revisions and clean up. But honestly the one you painted with your daughter was my favorite of that piece. Daddy and baby girl time is just precious and should always be cherished. You asked on a video I just watched, when you carved the sea turtle, what should you carve next. I’m not sure you still want suggestions, but I was thinking that you do so much earthly art, perhaps it’s time to try some outer space art. Perhaps a black hole in space or a star or the sun or the most beautiful space event that we all love, the northern lights caused by a solar flair. I know it’s not so easy, but a good imagination and artistic talent you already have. I have faith you can do it, if you want to. ✌🏻🤍🤞🏽😊
For the polar bear perhaps don’t pressure pot away all the bubbles - ice has bubbles… then you could do bubbly clear resin chunks in bubble free clear resin. Like fridge ice in water. Great channel too. I love your dedication, artistry and patience.
My school mascot was a polar bear and always got a soft spot for them. Looks so cool with the shards. Maybe have the base the bear sits on be a brighter blue almost white, while the bear is more the darker blue you were looking for. Beautiful work as always!
We sometimes have clients that like the 'broken leather effect' on they're ceiling, to get that effect into the plaster etc we use carrier bags to crinkle and crease to get the best effect without looking artificial. Amazing work though. I love how you create these pieces of art. Keep them coming.
When you use UV resin for a clear coat, try putting the finished product in water after you cure it and use the light on it *while* it's in the water. The water helps to bounce the UV rays around to make for a better and clearer finish. Just something to keep in mind.

Thank you very much and I am glad the Rhino is special to you and your family. Hoping I can do another big carving of one in the future!
Black and gold or black and silver would look amazing!
Thanks for the inspiration! I love your creativity!
The one blue had a green hue to it. This is such a cool idea
yeah I agree! Next time I will test beforehand
It was very fun to see you experimenting! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Like black shards in clear/white resin to carve a zebra, or black and yellow for a huge wasp or bee
agree! that would be awesome.
Awesome! Your work is amazing & I love how you challenge yourself.
You’ve made half alien half Handsome Jack.
And have to say all your experiments appeared to be a success.
haha thanks!
Maybe swimming through kelp?
that could be really cool. Thanks!
That Rhino was incredible looking
& My favorite because of the dimensional effect. 👍🏼
Love all 3 of these. The polar was my favorite. I would definitely find a way to get the pieces that look like ice to show more. Would be cool I think. Hope all is well and love the channel.
9:49 it makes the lines softer
All the sculptures are so different in application. All fantastic! My fav is the rhino!
I like the bear and like you said in the reverse colours it would look amazing. Great work.
Just a thought....maybe, putting the epoxy-sheet into the freezer before trying to shatter it, might help........
I think this is a fantastic idea!
i love the fact that you include the mishaps and failures most artists would not. all your works fascinate me but above all , your investment in the tools and equipment you own WOW i'm green with envy sir! AMAZING well done..
I don't know if that was your intended message, but I love it all the same
Very interesting experiments!! Thank you for sharing your work!!!!!!!
i believe what the plastic does is it doesnt cause excess cut out of clay "microtiny balls" Makes it more smooth.
Now that makes sense!
@@BMSculptures dig your videos mate! Much love from sunny South Africa - Cape Town 😃
Seeing the post things!!! Oh my gosh...🎉 and yeah my husband and I have watched the shark one and are elated to see this too! 😮 He's more a Carver and I the epoxy... We are cross sharing it gifts and seeing what is to come ...
Thank you for sharing your amazing work and spot on for the daddy moments... Priceless
Thank you. Your insight and creativity is wonderful to witness. I can only imagine the time it takes to record this added to the time it takes to create these, it’s much appreciated. My favorite is the bear. Thanks again
Glad you like it and I appreciate you watching and supporting my channel!
A lot of people would just scrap the idea and it would never make it out for anyone to see
And creating art is full of pitfalls and mistakes. Very encouraging.
Love the experimentation, I'm inspired to try some new stuff
You are an amazing artist! I love your work
Liked all of them, your mind works over time, brilliant
4:52 I’m a digital artist and faces are my strong suit, I’m *really* good at faces and always have been. As such, it never occurred to me that not many artists would find faces to be easy
Also, I adore how you used that failed mold as a bonding experience with your daughter, I know she would have been so thrilled
wow i absolutely love your videos. very inspiring, id love to do more projects like yours. no idea you were a ball player! even cooler in my book!
Great update! The Bear was by far my favorite and I would love to see the inverted version of that as well.
1:22 Liquid nitrogen, freeze it then it would shatter like you want in less than 2 minutes. Just my 2 cents.
Wow Blake, you hit this outta the park ⚾️……
Loved all the sculptures you created this video, as always.
I love this use of the two piece head as bookends! I think my favorite experiment was the polar bear though. I wonder if the blue had been a touch more transparent if the clear shards would have shown up better. Great video!
Freezing the pieces works GREAT. Some this before.
The whole idea of using the slicing method to help you use the time better was genius!!
haha beat you to the book ends! Glad you liked it!
I liked all of them. And I can definitely see the possibilities of all three techniques.
I really loved this type of video! I love seeing your process with experimentation! The pieces look great as well!
Young Man. You are a gifted artist. TY for your Blue Jays story. I remember the jersy on some of your videos and thought you played. Never googled you and I thank you for the stories you tell us. Great Malien you made.
Those all are really awesome. Not an Alien i have ever seen before but still super cool. Keep up the amazing work.👽
I like how these small experiments can be developed into these large immaculate pieces, opening many doors for your work.
I so appreciate your hunger to always improve, to learn, to be a student of your craft. The sculpting part is quite interesting. I'm sure you've heard of Jim McKenzie...if not, you will not be disappointed.
Absolutely brilliant
So many great experiments in one video! The polar bear is our favorite!
I love how you show your trial and errors.
Your work is amazing...I liked the polar bear and may try it myself
Also a bag round the mold with rice or marbles or beans or pellets poured in around that can take up extra space, so if there are leaks there isn't as much space for the leak to try to fill, and the bag, or two for security, means that substrate can be endlessly re-used. Cat litter would work well too, like that crystal stuff or otherwise.
I love the sculpture of the hummingbird. ❤❤
Hi Blake:
When I fuse glass, there are certain colors, that when mixed will turn brown. It has to do with the formulation of the colors. Some are created with sulfur and some with copper. You can't mix copper and sulfur containing colors, or you get brown. Most blues & yellow are such colors.
So, check the color formulations you are using.
And, I really liked the polar bear the most.
I have had the same experience with fabric dyes. I just put it down to a chemical reaction. Thanks for letting us know which one.
So strange!
very good to know. Thanks Mary
They are all intriguing but the sliced Rhino is the one I like the most. The fun you had with your daughter on the man/alien piece was fun to watch.
Glad you liked it! We both had some fun painting that one!
The blue "ice bear" is my favorite. 🎉
Love the bear the best. Maybe you could try the fractured technique using the colours of the northern lights !
Love the polar bear. Think doing a light sea green/blue shards in clear, or white shards in clear epoxy would look awesome. Great work on all of them!
When you use UV resin for a clear coat, try putting the finished product in water after you cure it and use the light on it *while* it's in the water. The water helps to bounce the UV rays around to make for a better and clearer finish. Just something to keep in mind.
What a guy! Love the thought on baseball players. Well said man!
Thanks brotha!
