Cant wait for this! It's probably gonna be tough though 🤟😆 The spikes are for making a rope ladder to cross a chasm (page 27) Also the system for finding the quest rooms that they introduced in the "terror in the dark" expansion is more forgiving in terms of hightening your chances for finding the quest room as you explore. Both systems have their charm but the original could go on for ages before finding the right path. 😀
Iron spikes are only used in conjunction with rope in order to build a bridge to cross a chasm.

You can look into enhance advanced heroquest. For more options and the magic systems is improved.

Usually folk generate the character and THEN decide upon the route of wizard or warrior. This approach would have assisted you greatly here I feel :D
Amethyst wizards absolutely kick ass in AHQ. Just a shame they (mistakenly?) have access to less spells than the other colleges.
I remember seeing this at the Hobby Land when I went to get expansion boxes for Hero Quest and wondering exactly what the difference was. Unfortunately, I never ended up with a copy myself.
Well I hope you can enjoy the experiment of me playing it then and maybe pick up a second hand copy one day

Oh, really looking forward to the AHQ videos following. I have played AHQ in its German version called "Herr des Schwertes". It's a 1:1 adaption of Advanced Heroquest, though it is missing the pages of the Games Workshop version that allow to tie in the Milton Bradley's Heroquest characters and furniture. I think because in Germany AHQ was released by publisher Schmidt Spiele they didn't want customers to be pointed in the direction of another gaming company that had similar games on offer. Nonetheless the Advanced Heroquest in both, the English original and the German translation, are games I still own and we pull off the shelves every now and then to this day.
Wow that’s really interesting that the German version was very different in that you had essentially a similar game but it was a region only game. Very cool. Glad you enjoyed the video and I can’t wait to start filming
@@thecrownofcommand5830 yes, Schmidt Spiele also had Talisman on offer in German (translation of English version, 2. edition) and Dungeon Quest which was labelled as "Drachenhort" over here. Over time I have collected all of them in both versions. And we still also play them occasionally. Late 80s and early 90s is what I love the most in terms of game release. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your content, it resonates with my own interests. 👏🏻

As I recall the game is really tough on the adventurers, in terms of monsters and insufficient gold. Will be interested to see how you find it. Also i think you imagined spiking doors shut😂

also i think you need to update the range combat to hit rolls for Johan after reducing his bow skill to 8. he should now be hitting on the same numbers as the other BS 8 adventurers

You can't amend the stats of henchmen anyway and can't recruit any until you have been on at least one expedition.
