Rachel, Thank you for taking the time to make this podcast. I started with Shetland, then watched Ireland and am now watching all your other podcasts. You are a delight to listen to, I love your humour. I can't imagine why anyone would be mean or rude to you. Life is too short to do things like that and I'm glad that you obviously don't let such things upset you. I am looking forward to your next trip to Ireland and wish I was joining you in person.
G’day Rachel, another fun & informative episode. 🍀 Anyone who is ‘mean’ to you you and your followers wouldn’t want their ugly vibes anywhere near your podcast. Never let anyone dull your fun personality ❣️🍀🇦🇺
Love both of your newly completed sweaters. Your video’s are great and you don’t deserve anyone to be nasty or mean to you. Block them, if you can. I thoroughly enjoy watching and I hope you stay above your 5K subscribers. If not, you will see it again in the future. Looking forward to your next cast on.
I appreciate your honesty about your sweater. I think you were brave and adventurous to give it a try to do the fading. If you never try it, you don’t know what you will get. So much of knitting is about experimenting and frogging until you decide what you like. Bring it to Ireland even if you don’t wear it. You may find the perfect yarn to make a brand new Ireland sweater.
I really do like your faded/not really faded Dopio pullover. It’s beautiful even if it’s not what you envisioned. I’ve been there. I have learned I am happier with a fade if the yarns all have similar color value as they blend much more easily.
I found your channel because of the Shetland video and have since watched several/many of your past videos. Do love the content and am fascinated by your honest and thought out comments about yarn, patterns, and finished products. I’ll certainly stick around. I admire you for giving yourself time to think about your feelings around your most recent sweater. 👏 Thank you for putting in so much time, energy, and thought into these videos. Until I see you again. Salam wa sa’aadah
Your California Sweater is so amazing! I am in love with the color every time I see it! Thank you for being an amazing tester and I'm so glad your snapping transition finally worked out 😮💨
Love the fit--and color--of your california sweater! I really appreciate your explaining the influence the three yarns (color and halo) had on the "fade"; no comment on the finished object (as per request). Whenever it comes to fruition, I will love seeing the wool (bats?) to spinning to complete knitted object vid! I will watch your videos--no matter how often or seldom they come out--because of your cool knitting content and your witty and wry perspectives on knitting and other aspects of life!
Love your humor girl! I feel your pain with fades...I too have had many fades that just did not do what I thought they would and mostly because I just made choices in colors that were too far off in shade, which ends up having distinct lines or blocks of colors. The transitions were not gradual so I would just feel like giving up! Having said that, most of mine get a ton of compliments. I think we are just too harsh with ourselves when things do not conform to our dreams. Your sweater is lovely and I mean that...please enjoy wearing it! 💕
My first ever knit garment was Coloring Book Tee (I did mine all in one color) in cotton yarn. Pattern is by Aimee Sher. I absolutely love the fit still, so I would say it could be a place to start. You may also find patterns specifically designed for fingering weight cotton, which might be a good place to start too.
My next cast on is a little bit inspired by your channel. I bought this gorgeous eggplant purple cotton yarn in a sweater's quantity, because I have no purple in my wardrobe and I love purple. So seeing you every week with a new purple something has been inspiring!
Congratulations to reaching 5K 🎉 I found you via your Scotland trip vlogs but I’ve stayed for the podcasts - love them and love your humour/outlook on life & knitting. Thanks for all the work you put into these videos Rachel 💜
Rachel your Doppio sweater is beautiful, I think it suits you well, the yarn looks so beautiful, it would look lovely with purple trousers or blue jeans for Ireland! Loving your podcasts, they are just like wee chats with a friend!
Hi Rachel, I'm new to your channel. As an older lady, I came to the time of life where I had to stop knitting for myself. I've knitted for charities for about 10 years. Quite a lot of my yarn is donated. So I have to be flexible with what I have. So I'll get to the point, you can make the neck of your California sweater deeper, just add extra rows in a complimentary yarn. Any colour will do. It's not seen inside and sewn down. Love your podcasts, keep knitting regards Sandra x
Good for you for focusing on how you feel about your Doppio sweater. I knitted the doppio but no fade or color change. I really love the Doppio. The fit is amazing. It was a quick knit for me too. (11 days)
Rachel, I love your videos. You have a wonderful, unique, quirky humor that makes me smile every time. People are mean to you? That's unacceptable. Ignore them. :)
I love both the sweaters. "Slow fashion is slow, for a reason" Most of the things I knit spend some time in hibernation. During Finish it February I may frog the whole thing.
I personally love your version of the Doppio! But I’ve been there. I have a couple really comfy sweaters that I only wear around the house for similar reasons.
The cotton merino base is great to work with. I knit the Sammensat 24 in it this summer. I also ordered a tee quantity from Long Dog and can’t wait to use it.
I especially loved this video, Rachel! Congrats on 5k! Anyone who doesn’t stick around is missing out 🖤 Thanks for always filling my vision with periwinkle goodness.
I think the doppio sweater looks really great. I totally understand the disappointment when something doesn't turn out how you pictured it but it doesn't take away from how lovely it is and its great meanings. 100% agree about you making the decision based on how it makes you feel though
Love your Doppio, for reals! Thx for the yarn management tips for the arms. I’m stressing about the Seaglass cardigan arms matching the body. I think I’ll need to do the same thing. So helpful.
I so look forward to your videos. For what my opinion is worth I really like your Doppio but I completely get if you're not happy it's a hill to climb. With regards to working with cotton then maybe check out AKA Nora Knits as she has been working with cotton and citton blends alot over the summer and has some really useful insights xx
Rachel, I love how you're totally real and honest about your makes and how you feel about your FO's and your thought processes before, during and after knitting your garments. My suggestion for a fingering weight tee to check out would be PetiteKnit's Anker Tee. She has one in a dk and a fingering weight version. I'm currently actually making the dk weight version in a 50/50 merino cotton and am loving the fabric. I would say to make a big swatch with your fingering weight cotton/wool yarn and block it and maybe hang it on a hanger, perhaps even attach something that has some weight to it (i.e. clips or clothespins, what have you) to see it'll grow with gravity over time. Hope this helps and I would love to hear your final thoughts on your sweater when your process of discernment comes to a conclusion. Cheers!
The yarn you chose for your knit California sweater is gorgeous on you 💜🧶💫 love your content Rachel !! Bobbi at Knitters Kniche has a video on summer tees, you should check out 😉 for pretty ideas
Just wanted to comment (usually i lurk on YT only 👀) and say I literally was so excited to watch this video just so see if I could replicate the yarns you used on your Doppio LOL (sadly for me, thats not gonna happen). I think it is so gorgeous and it is one of those pieces that if you let it grow on you (like mold?) it will probably end up being** one you wear all the time. Excited to see if you go back and change it, though! It will end up gorgeous any way you make it
Thanks for watching and for commenting! I totally understand the appeal of exclusively lurking lol! I hope that you can make a Doppio that you are happy with even if you can’t dupe this one perfectly!
Who could possibly be mean to you??? That's ridiculous! You're a delight! You're great! People suck! Keep knitting....we're watching! And congrats on 5,000 subscribers! Woohoo!
Thanks for the explanation of how Suri affects a sweater color because of halo. I want to add Suri or mohair to a future sweater but keep getting stuck on how the color will effect the wool yarn I plan to use with it. I have a better idea now of what to pick color wise. (I think your doppio sweater is really pretty especially the yoke.). Your dew drop pattern is so pretty.
It was very hard for me to conceptualize that before actually knitting it, so I hope that I translated what I learned okay! It is a very interesting set of possibilities of what fabric you can create!
Love your videos! Your California sweater is beautiful. I would be interested in a kit to make mine in the same colorway. Great idea. Have a lovely week 😊
