On your dad's sweater, just remember to put the buttonholes on the left and the buttons on the right. It's a beautiful color! And you did such a good job on the zip sweater for him! A man of the same height of a woman typically has broader shoulders and longer arms.
I love receiving handmade gifts, they’re so special and as a maker I understand the love and effort that goes into them. My mom is a crocheter, as was my grandma, and I cherish every handmade piece they’ve given me ❤
I love knitting gifts. It stresses me out. But I love it. This year I am making as many baby knits as I can for my niece and nephew and then all the girls in the family (aunties, cousins, mums etc,) are getting a unique hot water bottle each. I normally knit only for the girls in the fam as fee they would appreciate the most and always do things in their unique colours 😊
Fantastic episode…so inspiring!
Right now I have a vintage mens cardigan on the needles. I've got the 2nd sleeve that I'm working on, and once that's finish, it's all about the button-band and the shawl-like collar. It's for my dad, and the pattern was released the same year he was born. So I think that's super special. It's also my first ever garment, and I am LIVING.
I also made a few rugs, some pillow cases, and even a self-drafted chicken plush for this year's presents. I just bought the yarn for some lap/pet blankets for the harder to gift people in my family. Because who's going to say no to a little blanket for their furry friend and them to snuggle with?
I started in July because I wanted enough time to get everything done and wrapped by American Thanksgiving. Meaning I can just enjoy all of December without running around for gift ideas.
This is my first year knitting gifts for my family and friends. I decided to knit coffee (or tea) cup sleeves with the same yarn I plan to make their future wearables. I’m new to knitting and a bit slow but had great ideas for so many of them but won’t get through them by the holidays.
I am a knitter and I would cherish a gift knit!
I'm obsessed with knitting hot water bottle covers and was knitting one watching this video
Thank you for this beautiful video ❤ I love your podcasts and all the patterns you showed are so pretty! Many greetings from a fellow italian knitter ☺️
Hand knit socks from someone would not go unloved! Because like you I don’t knit socks myself, so they would be the best kind of gift 💝
I'm going to knit at least two Sophie shawls, a Collette tee for my sister and a beanie if I can! Thank you for those gorgeous ideas. A hood wasn't on my list, but I think it is such a good idea!
This is a great episode with not only beautiful knits and ideas but also happiness radiating from your face =D I would love a gift knit like a hot water bottle cover because I use 2 at the same time as well, 1 for my feet and 1 for my tummy 🤣
Love hand knit gifts. If someone makes me anything- knit, crochet, tapestry, x stitch etc - I know the amount of work, time and care in each stitch. Currently using leftovers of yarns, mohair, suri, merino etc to knit Salish hats for family and friends. Also a shawl for my 90yr old mum. Have fun xx
That color is gorgeous on you!
That color looks so good on you!
I'm making matching herringbone mittens (free pattern from purl soho) for my grandparents and they're so fun and quick to knit! My grandma has knitted her whole life but her hands can't do it anymore, so I'm looking forward to being the one gifting her rather than the other way around!
Loved this episode. Thank you! I made an Oslow hat and the Love Lines Shawl from Clinton Hill Cashmere for a couple ofknit worthy parents. All the best, Kimberly
I just ordered my yarn to make the sweater on the cover of Memory Lane! I can’t wait! While watching this I’ve been working on the gingerbread CAL by sirdar
Love this podcast of so many ideas and what you have already gifted to your family is absolutely incredible. So glad they have been so receptive of everything. Regarding the Sophie Scarf/Shawl. I haven’t made even one and really don’t plan to. I just think they are too small to do much good. Maybe for a smaller child as they would cover more for them.
Omg, my next cast-on is going to be the Songbird mittens for a dear friend. I love how cheerful yours are. Actually, this entire video was pure joy. You have such delightful positive, loving energy - I just subscribed. 😊 I am also a huge fan of Petite Knit’s patterns in a unisex way. The slipovers are a breeze to make for a man - just adjust the chest circumference and you are good to go. I’m also going to be making a hood for myself this winter: Bonbec by Emilie Luis. As you said, it’s so cute to have a hoodie look and it’s versatile. I’m finishing up the Hiedra mitts by Fiber Tales for a friend just now. They are super fun to make with an interesting little braid bordering the cables. She has helpful videos for that, as the technique was new for me. Thank you SO much for all the yarn and book recommendations, I will definitely be checking these out. I’m so glad the universe sent me this link! Happy Knitting to you!
I’m working on my first ever Musselburgh hat that I will gift to my dad! I think as a newer knitter I would like to get yarn as a gift so that I can try different types of projects. I have yet to make my first sweater, so I love the options that you shared.
Great episode. Thanks for all the inspiration. I’m making a number of Shift cowls for friends and family this year (by Andrea Mowry). I love seeing how the colour-changing yarn means you get a different outcome every time. Also I’ve some hats and socks on the needles- and an emotional support chicken for my son who desperately wants one 😂
To be honest, as a knitter and sewist, I'd love handmade gifts, but I have really sensitive skin, and I don't like synthetic fibers. So making something for me would be so annoying for people. But it has good side as well, apparently everyone says that I'm good person for choosing stuff for kids - if I don't get irritated, there's almost 100% chance that they won't get irritated too 😂
My favourite gift knit patterns so far are Frida by Emilie Luis and Birthday Wish Scarf by Julie Peng. Both easy to modify size, if you don't get distracted then they're quite quick and they're so pretty. Frida actually used around 3/4 of a ball of DK and for the scarf I used almost whole ball of Sandnes Garn Sunday. It's heavier than what pattern recommended, but it still got very nice and light look.
Alas living in Australia means that Christmas gift knitting is not really a thing. However, I am going to crochet a Very Hungry Caterpillar toy plus food as a gift for my Grandson who is obsessed by the book. I usually get a lot of yarn based gifts for Christmas, the family know that the hot weather only slows me down a little bit!
I appreciate handmade gifts so much - but almost everything I knot is a gift - if they gave me yarn I would probably just knit something for someone else 😂
Even though I'm a knitter, it was soooo precious to get a hand knit baby hat from a friend when my baby was born. I wouldn't say no to yarn, though - especially if it was a sweater quantity!
Oh absolutely would love to receive knitting gifts 🎁 accessories like hats , mittens or scarfs🩵🧣
I am planning to make my sister in law a hot(ter)waterbottlecover for Christmas, quite excited. And I must tell you, I rewatched you talking about your HWB setup multiple times, was very amusing how you said it/your expressions. 😂
I plan to make a load of Oslo hats by petite knit in some very special yarn this year and now after this video I may try some colour work mittens too! 😃
I’ve been making a blanket for my in laws. I started it on January the 12th and it’s going to be finished by the end of this month. I’m so excited but apprehensive to gift it. I feel like I’m going to be a mess if they hate it! 😂😂
lots of great ideas✨for a similar scarf to the sophie, I'm knitting the milotte scarf from milottebyvicy, a cute lace pattern skinny scarf, and im modifying the ends with some simple decreases to mimic the tails of the sophie 🧣 planning on knitting my mum a pair of socks for xmas, and currently knitting away on the body of my Braidy Loop sweater, pattern by OtherLoops 😊
I'd prefer a handknitted gift to yarn I think. I can't imagine a world in which I didn't really like a gift that someone had made specially for me.
Great ideas I think I’ll knit that kutovakika hood! Btw I believe Laine is pronounced
“lie-nah” 2 syllables.
one day we shall learn Finnish through knitting ☺
I'm knitting socks and mittens and Oslo hats. I'm not making a Sophie scarf as I don't like the look or understand the hype. Each to their own though. I'm sure I like some pattern that others don't. :)
If I’m honest, I’d prefer money or gift card so I could buy more of my favourite needles or yarn😊
I just found a mohair small scarf that’s two layer knit in the round! Check out Simply Irresistible - Mohair Ascot by Christie Archer. Great for leftover mohair!
I made some ruffle socks in just 2 days bc I keep seeing the very berry socks unfinished in my WIP basket and well... I keep making new socks bc I find the colour work so annoying :D I started them in april!!!! they were meant to be ready by june for strawberry season. I really hope I can finally finish at least the first sock this year :D as for gift knitting: I was planning on some hot water bottle covers but I need to get some hot water bottles so I know the measurements. I want to make them with cables, I think that will look very apres ski like and classy.
I think I'd rather have the wool. My mom is a big knitter and could knit me something, but I'd rather do it myself.
What method do you use to read your charts?
I am at my 4th attempt at the witre design flashback hoodie. Defenetly read it in Norse instead of English, It has been lost in translation. But it such a beautiful hoodie so I am trying again...
Hello Celine, I am curious what you do for work? Are you a full time content creator?
I would love a knitted gift. But if someone gave me yarn or a yarn gift certificate I would be happy too! I have two pressed flowers hats on my needles to gift to my nieces.
I would prefer the yarn to a gift knit. I've been knitting fingerless lacy gloves for my sisters and mum for Christmas and jumpers for my niece and nephews. I don't actually like the Sophie scarf, sorry xxxx
