there is a spiritual message inside: Hold on to sin, otherwise its poison you will. Do not let Satan dazzle you, because those who profane God's honor They undergo a curse that is fatal
Lavoro pregevole.
The initial part, composed by Bach and brilliantly executed by Glen Gould, also features the countertenor Russell Oberlin (th-cam.com/video/uoz8u7R-aQs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jVldZsgwgKSwavsE). The lyrics of the Cantata, which can be roughly translated to "Resist sin, or its poison will take hold of you," seem to convey a message that contrasts sharply with Nicolas Godin's interpretation. In Godin's version, zombies are depicted enjoying themselves surfing in the ocean, symbolizing individuals who have succumbed to sin yet continue to find enjoyment. This creates a sense of unease as the music video ends up delivering a highly contradictory narrative, meshing pleasure and surrender to vice, which might be the source of the discomfort one experiences when viewing the piece.
As a vocalist (contralto) who prepared this Cantata (didn't get to perform it, though I did perform the other alto solo cantatas), I would agree with this opinion. It's surely safe to say that in Bach the text IS the music. But this is about something else -- a disconnect. Still it's a tribute to JSB in that his compositions endure, inspiring new audiences.

Zombie surfers are cool, but the music is basically what you get when you take a masterpiece by Bach, and replace most good things about it with antiseptic studio garbage produced by committee. BWV 54 is so good though, that the parts they (probably inadvertently) left in managed to survive the onslaught of bad. Trust me, try the real stuff, not this lobotomized baby version.
Not really. I do play the real deal myself, but I’ve heard great pop versions of cantata movements, jazz versions, all electronic, marimba ensemble. This one jus left me cold and seemed as I described, and the grotesquerie 2/3 of the way ruins what silly mood was there. Glad you like it, though...
Taste is a funny thing. I think this version is utterly beautiful. Far from being 'antiseptic' - I love the production and the way the instruments are played with feeling and restraint. I have tried the 'real stuff' and do play some Bach (on mandolin, with another mandolin player). This really connects with me emotionally, I find it so uplifting.
Tant qu'ils épargnent Brian Wilson, moi ça me va
Nicolas Godin est un génie musical. Sa relecture de cette cantate est....géniale.
I love this so much. Have played it millions of times now.
Been waiting for a track like this for years. Perfect mood. welcome back Gordon Tracks
Gordon Tracks is Thomas Croquet. Not Nico.
I LOVE THE DARKNESS AND HAPPINESS THAT THE MUSIC SHOWS IN THE VIDEO. FOREVER AN AIR FAN.

Well done The Sacred Egg, Riff Raff and MPC - a truly stunning visualisation of Nicolas's very original take on Bach's Cantata 54.

I totally agree! Je suis un fou de Bach aussi.

Very creative in many ways. Reminds me of Mozart's musicality.

good to see zombies doing something creative, they generally get a bad wrap!

Gefällt mir gut, mal etwas anderes.
But...but..what does it MEAN?!(he asked, innocently!)
Stand against sin. It’s a Bach cantata
@@mortenkeiser-nielsen7311 I meant the video. Zombie surfers because it's a novel idea?

Adequate but not a patch on the original Bach composition!
Absolutely disagree! I think it's amazing... and I love Bach
Was war das denn??

Affreux.

This guy is a Bach Cantata purist

But I can envision a great heavy metal version of this piece! If I ever get that band together I’ll put it on the rep list
Also, zombie surfers would improve most videos so there’s that
