Love going out on yankee fleet and I’ve been luckily to get 2 pollock at same time before it’s a hell of a fight if they both good size but always disappointing since I imagine as I’m really it’s a huge cod

Average size of what the pollock? Pretty much what you see here, 6-15lbs but schools of small pollock exist to avoid

Also looks like blue cod flies were the teaser of the day?

We find dark blue, purple to be the best almost always. Prefer the tube type over bucktail purely for practical reasons like easier to take out of tangles and doesn't get frayed. However pollock when they're hungry will even bite a bare hook in place of teaser... just to illustrate the point that it really doesn't matter.
Also find that in some spots loaded with redfish, any orange gear becomes more targeted by those.
Chrome lav jig is the go to. Hammered diamond chrome is also very good but less common. Really no reason I would ever use anything besides those to be honest. Cod/norwegian jigs often seem to be hit by big cod when they are present, but pollock hit them too for sure

Were people jigging right off the bottom or were they squiding assuming the fish were suspended off the bottom?

Idea is jigging on the bottom, popping off the ground. Occasionally you reel up 20 feet, jig a couple times there, then drop back down. This is to unspook the fish, and also they love hitting it on the drop anyway

Thanks for posting this! I was thinking of going in early April, is there usually good fishing then?

I hope they run like this again soon. 2021 was better than the last few, but not as good as this.
