  • This is a Getting started tutorial for Spriter, an application for creating 2D character rigs and animations.
    I show how to setup a 2d character with sprites and how to add bones to the character for skeletal animations.
    I also demonstrate in the end how to apply inverse kinematics when the rig is completed.
    You can get Spriter from here:

    I have trouble getting my mouse pixel perfect to select the pointed end of the bone. Is there a way to just select the bone based on clicking on the sprite it is attached to or the ability to click ANYWHERE on the bone? When i get near the end of the bone, the rotate arrows show up, but if i click and i'm not over the 1 pixel end, then it just uses the selection tool and ignores the bones/sprites.

    When i click the bones it doesn't move the character, only the bone. and yes i held the B button and clicked the sprite. And also it keeps merging them into one.

    could you tell me ? is it necessary to have programming knowledge to animate in spriter ?

    • @JohnWTolbert
      @JohnWTolbert 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Coding is only required when you want Spriter functionality in a game engine or the like.

    i have a question, its better to animate this way or making sprite sheets with multiples sprites doing the move

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on your experience and what's better for you personally, I like to animate like this cause it is non destructive and I am able to create very natural movements, but that's just my way to do it.

    • @luisguerradm
      @luisguerradm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what do you mean with "non destructive"?

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I mean if I want to change a part of the character like new legs or something I can do this without having to redo the whole animation.

      Making sprites sheets is better, if you are trying to accomplish true animation I would go with sprite sheets. Spine and Spriter makes the running animation look robotic and cheap.

    • @Anriuko
      @Anriuko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@techbit7607 It's not the software that makes animation look robotic and cheap, it's the user being cheap and delegating too much of the work to the technology. You can apply the same principles of fluid animation and use your creativity when working with these tools, but it's less of a necessity if you just want to get some motion done.

    Im just wondering, is it possible to rig characters that don't have their body parts seperately? Say importing something from another tool, would I have to split it's body parts or could I rig it somehow?

    • @LeuNoeleeste
      @LeuNoeleeste 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah no you would have to split your sprite to work with it using Spriter. The whole thing works with "parts" as far as I know. I draw my characters parts after parts due to this

    • @deadstabb4941
      @deadstabb4941 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      honestly speaking Spine
      They're both good animating apps but spine is best to go with(unless you got a load of cash lying around) and some indie game developers that i know of use spine to animate their characters and enemies
