I'll never understand why people rank 64 rainbow road above the 8 remake. I agree the 8 remake is too short, but the original was waaaaay too long. It's also very difficult to fall off, and there isn't much interesting happening with the layout or obstacles. It's just a really long path and isn't interesting to play on.
Music and aesthetics are amazing though

Another thing I don't like about MK8's space station Rainbow Road that you didn't touch on, is that the rainbow itself isn't very colorful or vibrant. In fact, it's downright dull. With great new hardware, it was a chance to really have appealing visuals, and yet the N64, SNES, really all the other versions have a more colorful and pleasing color palette.
Yeah the colours were just pale oppose to the other games
for DS wider one is the loop and narrower one is a corkscrew
And for n64 remake it should have been 3 laps or at least 2

3ds rainbow road is such a beautiful track, very disappointed that it hasnt been remade in HD

I actually like MK8’s original Rainbow Road, more specifically, the conveyor belts. The conveyor belts reminded me a lot of Coconut Mall and Toad’s Factory, which were my childhood.

I seriously hope that for the next Booster Course pass, they need to add the MKDS rainbow road, because the loop de loop and corkscrew would work amazing with anti gravity. But knowing Nintendo they’re probably just gonna add just Tour tracks

To give GBA Rainbow Road some credit, it's one of the rare non-mainline Mario references in Kart, having a Paper Mario Bowser cameo. Like Diamond City in Kart GP 1 and 2, it's neat.

the reason why 3DS Rainbow Road is so good is cause its not just Rainbow Road, cause part of the track is on the moon

Making my Rainbow Road ranking
16-13) Any RR that is in Tour, since you're just playing Tour.
12) MKSC SNES RR: It's just the Super Nintendo version with no thwomps and worse music.
11) Original RR: The original final test of skills, love the music and the atmosphere, only downside is it's on the worst game in the series (other than Tour).
10) MK64 RR: Fantastic music, but nostalgia aside it's fundamentally a bad track because there is very little you can do to catch up (outside of the broken shortcut).
9) MK7 SNES RR: Just the original RR on a much better game, but some of the challenge is gone and the track does not hold up well against the other ones.
8) MK8 SNES RR: It's Mario Kart 7 SNES RR but it's one of the most beautiful looking tracks in the game, not much else to say here.
7) MK8 N64 RR: I blinked and the track was over.
6) MKSC RR: Underrated track, the shortcuts are insanely fun, the music is great for an early GBA game, and it's probably the most challenging RR in the series.
5) MK8 RR: While it's weird that a rainbow road would be going through a space station, it's overall a fairly fun track and difficult for MK8 standards.
4) MKDS RR: Best part of this track is definitely the loopdeloops, even if they're jank.
3) MKW RR: SS Tier music, SS Tier gameplay, but the road itself isn't the prettiest.
2) MKDD RR: SS Tier music, and is also the best looking rainbow road, love how there's shooting stars that sometimes turn into stars you can pickup.
1) MK7 RR: This track is simply a masterpiece, feels like an adventure where you're thinking about all you have accomplished to get here, and to top it off it has the best RR theme in the entire series.

The MKDS Rainbow Road’s loop de loops are actually more memorable than any MK8/MK8DX’s antigravity section. It just feels more unique when there’s just one in the game.

Even if you don't count Tour as Mainline (even tho Nintendo does), I think ur list is pretty good, besides MK7's placing, I feel some pain but DS's is pretty good, that said my list:
16. SNES Rainbow Road (GBA) - Remake takes away a few of the things the original did as well as just looking terrible even with the bump in graphics.
15. SNES Rainbow Road - The first Rainbow Road so it has my respect for that, but like most SNES tracks, it hasn't aged well.
14. SNES Rainbow Road (3DS) - Not the best remake of SNES but with all the added ramps and Rainbow Thwomps it is certainly commendable!
13. RMX Rainbow Road 1 - Its glider sections are too long, tho that issue is fixed in its T and R/T variants!
12. SNES Rainbow Road (WiiU) - Graphic based
11. SNES Rainbow Road (Tour) - Same as Mario Kart 7's version but an added bonus was its Variants so its gets points for that!
10. WiiU Rainbow Road - Mainly it's the setting and how the road is more artificial than magical, but the music SLAPS
9. GBA Rainbow Road - Tho at the bottom it s still fairly a good Rainbow Road, I like the jump boost all along the edge of the track, and the Music is pretty good
8. N64 - I would put this higher but the overall track isn't too impressive, but the Music, is just beautiful and so soothing!
7. DS Rainbow Road - Was not a DS kid, was a Wii kid so the nostalgia wasn't there but it's still a very very good track, with its loop and corkscrew and the neat call back to GCN, it a very good Rainbow Road, from here and up all the Rainbow Road at least Great!
6. N64 Rainbow Road (WiiU) - It's shortened so it loses a few points, but the overhaul to the track was amazing!
5. RMX Rainbow Road 2 - Using the SNES basis, its essentially an action-packed SNES Rainbow Road, with tons of fun elements, and its trick variants are the icing on top
4. GCN Rainbow Road - Had tricking been in Double Dash it would have been higher, but the track is still amazing, the soundtrack is superb and I loved how you could see the city below.
3. 3DS Rainbow Road (Tour) - It is pretty much 1 to 1 with its original with some updates, still a phenomenal track
2. Wii Rainbow Road - This would be my nostalgia track since it is just such a fun and crazy Rainbow Road to drive on, I think everyone has fallen at least once XD. Still it's one awsome course and the soundtrack compliments that!
1. 3DS Rainbow Road - It's just an experience with its 3 section structure, the variety, the settings, and MUSIC! It's hard to put into words but this is the journey of Rainbow Road.

@@JaspersMug 3DS Rainbow Road is the same in Tour. It's mostly different aesthetics which look worst than 3DS. Driving 3DS Rainbow Road backwards is really interesting though. There's a space cannon that propels you into the air and elevated gravity platforms to take you higher up on the rainbow roads.
Nintendo never said they counted it as mainline, they just wanted to include some of the courses into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Eh DS rainbow road is good (and MKDS is probably my overall favorite game) but I'd probably give my favorite Rainbow Road to either GCN or 7, maybe Wii. Those are the ones I think of first when I think of the ideal Rainbow Road experience. I just hope that the remake of 7's Rainbow Road in 8 Deluxe keeps the celestial magical feel and doesn't change the road to look manmade like 8's N64 RR did.

Mario kart Wii’s rainbow road is probably my favorite Mario kart course. I can understand why someone likes the 7 version more, but holy shit mk Wii feels so chaotic and fun. I always like MK8 N64 rainbow road a lot as well

11: SNES Rainbow Road (MKSC): Not very fun, bad controls, obnoxious music. (2/10)
10: SNES Rainbow Road (SMK): Not very fun, bad controls, less obnoxious music. (2/10)
9: GBA Rainbow Road (MKSC): Better then SNES Rainbow Road but still ruined by the controls. (3/10)
8: SNES Rainbow Road (MK7): Finally good controls but the track is boring. (5/10)

---------------------- separated because it's too similar but, I like the MK7 ver. for the difficulty and MK8 ver. for the graphics and space
8: DS Rainbow Road (MKDS):
-Pretty hard to realize how low I had to rate this track, I've played a lot this game along GCN and Wii but maybe it upsets me the downgrade had to go through compared to GCN. Apart from it's fun loops, it's similar to GCN but bland. The song it's nice :) (I could switch between MK8 RR and this)
7: Wii U/Switch Rainbow Road (MK8):
-Similar reason as DS, but only with the Rainbow Road choice (comparing to MK7), I mean it's fun; hard turns, antigravity etc. but I'm not a fan of the music and the colors are a bit muted. MK8 had everthing great except this forgettable track.
6: GCN Rainbow Road (MKDD):
-Also surprised how low is rated, but then I remember, GCN had the most slippery experience of the MK games, the reason why it's here is because of the song and the fun chaos I had with my friends :).
5: N64 Rainbow Road (MK64):
-Never got the game and either the console, but it's one of my favorite, it's beautiful visually and in music too. Little blind nostalgia alert: in children's hospitals, some of them had this console to play in waiting rooms and my first choice was Rainbow Road when I was five. Only complaint, bit boring on the 3 lap format with the old mechanics.
4: Wii Rainbow Road (MKWii):
-This track was very tense, I even managed to jump parts of it. I used to hate this track, but I thought, it wasn't that bad, only old rage quits! The difficulty was pretty spot on. The song is good, not too shabby. The Wii graphics had weird bloom effects, so the appearance was a bit jagged. Overall, great!.
3: GBA Rainbow Road (MKSC):
-Most of the blind nostalgia goes here: It was my first game before I had a Gamecube ... I had to tolerate this game for so long, has everything that I complained on GCN but much more! Not only you had to be careful turning, but also remain in 1st place and have coins to win Grand Prixies, but I learned a lot with the bumps, so GBA RR while limited by hardware, it was pretty fun. The song is underrated, I would like to see in a remake form. Nice overall.
2: N64 Rainbow Road (MK8):
-The best form of the track. Not a lot to say here apart from being visually stunning and the song sounds pretty amazing uplifting! I had more exposure to this remake than the original, but I both appreciate for what it is. I would liked to see the character's faces on the air like in the original and also, it had to be an option to run this track for 3 laps, now that it has more mechanics to keep you occupied!
1: 3DS Rainbow Road (MK7):
-The grandest, the majestic and adventurous Rainbow Road I have ever had. (Only if the hardware limitation didn't get in the way!) The song was a nice throwback to N64 RR, considering that MK7 never liked it that much compared to DS. I'm pretty excited to see this track on the Wave 3 Booster Course Pack. It's a bit easy compared to other hard RR's but traversing the planet's rings and on the moon? That's pretty much the definition of a magical Rainbow Road experience.

13. N64 (original) - pure garbage. Boring beyond belief, waaaaayyy too long and featureless and horribly dated track design. Amazing music is the only redeeming feature.
12. SNES (GBA version) - worst version of smk one so far.
11. SNES (original) - overrated, repetitive and obnoxious. Music is better than GBA remake.
10. SNES (Tour version) - ok but again bad controls.
9. SNES (3ds version) - more fun with better controls but still repetitive and obnoxious.
8. SNES (8 deluxe) - same as 7's but prettier and music is nicer.
7. GBA - eh... cool concept and great paper Mario references and the bouncy railings are definitely an interesting gimmick. Epic short cuts too but controls bring this one down.
6. Wii U - an alright track overall but disappointing as a rainbow road. The track is barely rainbow, the visuals are bland, the design is nothing special and the concept is underexplored. Not an awful track, just a disappointing one.
5. DS - solid track but kinda feels like a poor man's double dash rr. Upside down loops are very cool though and ironically do anti-gravity better than 8's.
4. N64 (8 deluxe) - sooooo much better than the original but still falls a bit short. Track is actually too short now and the design is way too linear and repetitive still.
3. GCN - 2nd favourite rainbow road music and fun challenging layout though a bit too narrow in parts and the spiral part is a pain with Double Dash's sensitive steering.
2. Wii - a great and challenging track. Visually a beautiful galaxy inspired track. Music is great too. Bit janky at times and fuck that dog leg bend though.
1. 3DS - one of the best tracks of all time and a true masterpiece up there with fan-favorite giants like Waluigi Pinball and Coconut Mall. Love everything about it from the amazing segmented design to the beautiful music. Incorporating the space and solar system assets makes it even better, especially the moon section. Pure magic.

I just want the Rainbow Road Booster Pack. Rainbow Road is always my favorite course in the game (expect for MK8...) and all I want to see are all the rainbow roads coming back. In particular I want the 3DS and Wii versions.

3ds rainbow roads beginning music was leaked along which cup it will be placed in and thats the last track of the moon cup. It is also said that a wii track is at the end of the spiny shell cup, and seeing how the moon cup is the end of the first row and the spiny cup is the end of the second, wii rainbow road should be coming hopefully. It would be very strange if it wasnt a rainbow road in that slot

6: Mario Kart Arcade GP 1/2 Rainbow Road: While it’s not officially called Rainbow Road, I honestly love it and the music slaps hard.
5: GBA Rainbow Road: The most underrated Rainbow Road, I love the backdrop as well.
4: SNES Rainbow Road: It’s iconic, and is easily the best SNES Rainbow Road.
3: Wii Rainbow Road: This one is so much fun, honestly. Music is awesome.
2: GCN Rainbow Road: This one looks amazing, especially for 2003. I love how you can see Mushroom City under it (My favorite Mario Kart track as a whole). The stars falling down onto the track is a great touch, and the music here is the best in any Mario Kart IMO.
1: 3DS Rainbow Road: They put the most love and passion into this Rainbow Road, and it clearly shows. Driving on the rings of Saturn, going on the moon, and going through that huge tunnel thing is just breathtaking. The music is of course, amazing.
Just rate all the SNES Rainbow Road in the same category.

MK8's is too faded
For the n64 remake they should have had the lay out been like the original but with the modern tiles, like how the 8's snes is gone with 2 rows for each color down parallel not at a angle to make it the original
I think it would have been more interesting if they kept the same layout from the original but made it sections instead of laps

I get it, hyperbole and all that, but it's literally a turn, a single turn, where you're driving on a space station for MK8's Raimbow Road. That sure as shit isn't "60%". Shit, the moon segment in MK7's Rainbow Road lasts far longer than the space station segment than MK8's.
Also, you didn't even say anything on the actual track design and layout of MK8's Riainbow Road. All you did for this segment was cry about a single turn for nearly a whole minute, with factually incorrect statements and math, then moved on

@@JaspersMug for the gba does make sense for the reason you listed, its music if forgettable and ironically the non RR tracks have far more memorable songs
The fact that people consider n64 rr a good track at all to this day baffles me. This is one of the most borring and uninteresting tracks in the series.
