So true, I've been visiting Gatlinburg since I was little kid with my parents, even after I grew up and had a family, I'm actually going back in July. But I said that to say that of all the years I've been going to Gatlinburg I've never been towed or received a parking ticket, neither have my parents or anyone else traveling with us because we park where we are suppose to. We don't park on other people's property because they will probably need it for their guests. We would never park in a employee parking space because that would be very inconsiderate and mean. People say they don't see the signs buy I'm sure they do. There is no way they don't see all of those signs. They just don't care and they roll the dice.
My sister got my car towed by an illegal park. I wasn’t mad at anyone, but I was super annoyed by the snotty 12yo at the tow-company desk. Everyone is unhappy to be towed, but good manners by the tow staff makes all the difference. 🤷♀️
You wait until that late, all for their convenience, yet they still complain instead of THANKING YOU for staying late. You could have told them you open at 9:00am.

thank you so much for being kind to that last lady. I (76 y.o female) identified with her because I got in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. (light pickup truck, black ice, steep blacktop grade with drop-off and no guard rails) lost control when I hit the frost line, did a couple or three 180s and couldn't get traction. I was scared me silly, and there was nobody to help me.I was able to get myself to a safe place then fell apart. It took me a week to be able to face driving again and the first stop was to get sand tubes in the back for weight. Again, thank you for taking such good care of her. You're a prince of a man.
It does make sense that that a fee would be posted along with cash only. That would deter some folks. If a phone number and name of the company is posted. Why not the price?
There is no need to post the cost. It would depend on which tow company picked up the car. It is not the responsibility of the parking lot to put a fee on the signs.
Need a new gag: " If'n I tow and you DONT pay, I don't have the space to store all the cars, so I usually burn 'em - we have some great bonfires in Gatlinburg" Bet you would have 'em at the lot in seconds... FRY to Park..!
Jeff, I love that, when the illegal tow customer told you that they would be at the lot by 11:30 PM, you just sat back and ate some chips. That was the best way to handle that.
Its funny..My family and I travel to that area many times per year. Always paid to park when going to Gatlinburg.. Never been towed..funny how that works.

Jeff, my wife and I have been to annakeesta every night this last week, and there is plenty of parking for people, 20 dollars to me is very reasonable for a safe place to park, and even the other parking lots had room too. I wonder if I could run a shuttle car (or bus) between 5 Guys, The Church, The Village, Employee parking lots, etc. and 221 Newman Rd. and make a living? I would even rent a parking spot in town as an advertised departure point.

In the metropolitan cities there is usually an amount listed on a sign. But that's when the city tows you. Not a private entity. People that don't want to take responsibility for their actions don't need to be behind the wheel. I'm surprised the lady stuck back on Zurich even got back in the car. Covin backs that truck up like his dad. Be safe.
I live in Louisville and all of our signs just say some variation of "parking for x business, all others towed at owners expense" and then some list the name of the tow company that tows for the lot. Usually the one that has the tow company on it also staffs someone in a regular car to watch the lot on the weekends and as soon as they see you park and walk off the property they call in the tow truck and they come and get ya.
That might not be right, but then again, the person parking illegally is just asking to get towed. Like Jeff's way better. Phone call by the property owner.
What the first guy was talking about was that in certain jurisdictions, illegal park towing requires a sign like you have and it also requires that the maximum tow fee be shown on the sign. Your signs do not show the maximum fee which I’m assuming that your jurisdiction does not require fee disclosure. Also, some jurisdictions specify the maximum tow fee. So the first guy was not totally in left field, he just assumed that all jurisdictions have the same rules regarding non-consensual towing.
Those who complain about the price apparently have no idea how expensive those tow trucks are, the cost of insurance and normal operating expenses. Many would complain regardless of the price. You and Kristan always try to be professional, respectful and compassionate.
They also do not understand that there are numerous times where they go out to do a tow and the car is gone. Also traffic, also the knowledge and experience of how to do all of this complex towing.
Free towing? We saw the price of the "Limousine", and the payments on that would be fierce, not to mention insurance and operating costs. Most tow calls involve two skilled people and specialized equipment. You didn't get your lot for free, and there's insurance and other overhead. You have to deal with lots of verbal abuse and maintain your cool. Some days are very busy and you do take in significant money, but other days are slow with little or no income. I don't think your rates are outrageous. I just had my heating system serviced, and it cost me $100 when he drove in my driveway, and another $100 for his checkup, and there was nothing wrong with it! Skilled service is expensive!

I know that last lady felt! Yrs ago I drove for a car rental Co. City girl grabbed a new camera headed for Reno, never ever heard of back ice! Cruising across a river bridge, I felt the car shift then drift to the right with a huge Mt. In front me! Instinct kicked in drive or crash! I tapped brakes gingerly - none. I was sliding side ways! 1. Turn off radio 2. Turn of heater 3 pray the steering wheel is straight 4. Pray these once new tires stick to the ground (There was a passenger bus coming down the slight down behind me) 5. Just breath I learned arm on the door frame and listened...... 1001, 1002, 1003 heard and felt bumpy bump 5ft before Mt. Slammed my foot on the gas peddle was barely peeking out my squinted eyes! Drove a mile up the road Turn car off and I needed the chilly cold air on my wet cheeks! Years later hearing Carrie underwood song "Jesus take the wheel", I know he was there that day with me! As for that lady it took me 2hrs, to get back behind that wheel!

Where we live not only do you pay a hefty fine but you have to pay the police department 200.00 to get a release of vehicle slip. Then you have to pay the tow company the fees associated to the tow. I was at a gas station the other day and I parked next to a handicap spot the handicap sign was on the stores wall and as I waited for my husband I noticed there wasn't a parking spot in front of that sign so I was like nope better move over a spot apparently I parked in the handicap. I wasn't getting towed, thanks to your channel I knew not to park in that spot even though the sign wasn't in front of where I was
Hello all, New subscriber, and new to watching the channel. However, not new to Gatlinburg. I live in NC and have been going to Gatlinburg every year, twice a year since 1986! I feel in a lot of ways I know Gatlinburg and the area better than I know my own town. Someone made a comment about tow trucks in the area and TH-cam and came looking. I am so glad I did. I've been going back and watching videos for three days now. Jeff, I think you are hysterical. I wish you could bottle and sell your self-control and patience. You would have a lifetime buyer here.
Another good one. We just spent four days in Asheville and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. Absolutely loved the mountains and we will be back in Gatlinburg in November. 😊

Jeff and Kristen, you two are absolute saints to put up with the garbage these people dish out. You're better than I am, that's for sure. I'm 78 years old, and I have NO patience anymore to put up with the crap these people spout. I know they're not criminals, but in a way they are stealing the parking places for those who work in Gatlinburg, and the employees of places like Anakeesta's, Five Guys, and some others! If I'm somewhere and a sign exists (which they do in the places where you go to tow illegal parkers) I guarantee you I would 99 times out of 100 see the sign and would NOT violate someone else's parking space, NO WAY! Up by me near Chicago, some of the private lots have tow company signs that list the price of the tow and storage fees if any. That's enough to make people think twice about illegal parking.
@@rogtif88 My city requires the sign to show the cost of the tow and daily storage fees at the impound lot. It would read "Charge $175 + $25 per day storage". Look up Google image of 'Lew Blum Towing'. And the city has a law that illegally parked vehicles cannot be towed off of a private lot without the police issuing a ticket and that means hours of wasted time for tow truck drivers.

I live in Wears Valley.....love to watch you guys....people will park ANYWHERE..I've seen them park in ditches ....on side of a hill....I have even seen them park long ways in-between 2 cars with back end sticking out about 4 feet into the road......in Gatlinburg or PF or Sevierville .....ANYWHERE!

I rent a cabin in the area twice a year and have for several years now, and if there's one piece of advice I can pass to first time visitors it's this: Do not arrive at night if you can at all avoid it. Mountain roads don't have street lights, there are often confusing intersections which are poorly marked if at all, and many times you can't count on your GPS. I stay in the same place all the time so I know the way but it is quite secluded. I won't forget my first time when I passed up a turn and found myself on what looked like a vertical ascent up a loose gravel "road" to nowhere, with nowhere to turn around. I sure can understand that lady's fear of driving for another minute. Good thing a great dad/son team and that officer were there for her.
So many people that have been into the Smoky mountains don't realize that elevation and switchbacks and narrow roads. They book a cabin and the b&b says sure come on. Then they try to get there and it's absolutely more than they expected

We are locals and we are always telling tourists, especially at our local watering hole, that if they are not paying for parking in Gatlinburg, they will get towed. If you have a thought that maybe it will be safe, forget it. If someone says it is safe, forget them. Just be safe and pay. It is easier and cheaper all the way around. God bless.
You should make a video of the entire process. Going to the tow, complete hook up, calling police to report, drive home, dealing with them on phone, and dealing with them at lot. I know it would be couple hours plus’s long but that’s the point.
Jeff, I'd consider installing a man size gate in the fence so you can get into the yard without being followed. Some of the 'customers' can get quite an attitude. Times are changing and some people are not worth turning your back on.
It's not the 5 miles. It's the $100,000 truck, gas money, maintenance, tires, brakes, equipment, insurance, storage, and on and on. Not to mention sitting around at 11 at night instead of sleeping or hugging your lady.
Love watching you guys!!! I was a paramedic for 15 years here in Kentucky. Spent several years before that working in retail. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that this world is full of some clueless stupid people and unfortunately you can’t fix stupid!!! You guys are always kind and nice to these people, sometimes too nice like waiting for hours after hours for pick ups. And the Apartment Complex mess would drive me insane. I don’t understand why the apartment manager doesn’t paint the apartment numbers on the spots and only allow 2 spots (2 passes) per apartment. They have 4 and 6 people sharing those apartments and the management doesn’t know it because they aren’t on the lease and they take all the spots from other tenants following the rules. It’s a mess!!! Stay safe!!! And hopefully the good understanding people you encounter outweigh the nasty bad ones.

A lot of towing jurisdictions have statutory towing and impound fees, and in those jurisdictions the signs will often have the amount on the sign. For example, something like "towing fees not to exceed $220 and $20 per day".
I have seen that. It usually deters folks from parking there. If they can put a sign with the name and number. Why not the price. It makes it less arbitrary.
@@martqbd Also since it's a private lot and not one with a tow contract with a specific company the lot owner may call difefrent companies with different prices. The signs you see with amounts are ones that have tow contracts with the lot.
I cannot believe people. You stayed until 11:30 - LONG past any normal service would be available. Yet you go out of your way to get them their car back, and she calls you names. At some point id just start sending them to voicemail and let them pick it up during normal business hours. Good On your for being so available to help these guys.

It's a good thing we know Jeff to be a pretty standup guy. I say that because an unscrupulous person could very easily tow a buddy's car and then just have them call and make a big fuss, name calling, etc just to get views. So it's nice that we know what we see on Everything Auto's channel is actually a real event that took place. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if other towing channels haven't done that. I don't know as I've never watched other towing channels). Jeff's ability to handle irrational people is impressive to say the least. I honestly believe that elementary or Jr high school teachers in maybe sociology class or whatever, should use a few select videos from this channel on how to deal with unreasonable people. Seriously. What do you guys think? Obviously some are way better examples than others but anyone who watches this channel knows exactly what I'm talking about. And yet he's still human, a few times when people act in a manner that is completely uncalled for he might bark back a slight amount, or tell them the price just went up a hundred bucks. Although I'vr never seen him actually follow through on the higher pricing. But in the few cases I have seen him say that it definitely seems to get them to stop their crap. So I would say it's justified and a pretty intelligent technique actually. I especially love that he hands out toys to kids. That's something the world could use a lot more of. Had to get a tow yesterday as someone ran a red light and T-boned my Jeep. Was thinking of you guys as the friendly tow truck driver got my vehicle taken care of. Good news is that it wasn’t a high speed crash and she hit me squarely on the passenger side rear wheel. No body damage to mine at all (hopefully just the rear suspension and wheel)! Not even a scuff on the paint! Her borrowed boyfriend’s Charger is a different story. Jeep 1, Charger $$$$

The Gatlinburg Chamber of commerce needs to link your TH-cam Channel on their webpage to warn people about illegal parking in the area.

In the metropolitan cities there is usually an amount listed on a sign. But that's when the city tows you. Not a private entity. People that don't want to take responsibility for their actions don't need to be behind the wheel. I'm surprised the lady stuck back on Zurich even got back in the car. Covin backs that truck up like his dad. Be safe.
I live in Louisville and all of our signs just say some variation of "parking for x business, all others towed at owners expense" and then some list the name of the tow company that tows for the lot. Usually the one that has the tow company on it also staffs someone in a regular car to watch the lot on the weekends and as soon as they see you park and walk off the property they call in the tow truck and they come and get ya.
That might not be right, but then again, the person parking illegally is just asking to get towed. Like Jeff's way better. Phone call by the property owner.

What the first guy was talking about was that in certain jurisdictions, illegal park towing requires a sign like you have and it also requires that the maximum tow fee be shown on the sign. Your signs do not show the maximum fee which I’m assuming that your jurisdiction does not require fee disclosure. Also, some jurisdictions specify the maximum tow fee. So the first guy was not totally in left field, he just assumed that all jurisdictions have the same rules regarding non-consensual towing.
Those who complain about the price apparently have no idea how expensive those tow trucks are, the cost of insurance and normal operating expenses. Many would complain regardless of the price. You and Kristan always try to be professional, respectful and compassionate.
They also do not understand that there are numerous times where they go out to do a tow and the car is gone. Also traffic, also the knowledge and experience of how to do all of this complex towing.
Free towing? We saw the price of the "Limousine", and the payments on that would be fierce, not to mention insurance and operating costs. Most tow calls involve two skilled people and specialized equipment. You didn't get your lot for free, and there's insurance and other overhead. You have to deal with lots of verbal abuse and maintain your cool. Some days are very busy and you do take in significant money, but other days are slow with little or no income. I don't think your rates are outrageous. I just had my heating system serviced, and it cost me $100 when he drove in my driveway, and another $100 for his checkup, and there was nothing wrong with it! Skilled service is expensive!

I know that last lady felt! Yrs ago I drove for a car rental Co. City girl grabbed a new camera headed for Reno, never ever heard of back ice! Cruising across a river bridge, I felt the car shift then drift to the right with a huge Mt. In front me! Instinct kicked in drive or crash! I tapped brakes gingerly - none. I was sliding side ways!
1. Turn off radio

3 pray the steering wheel is straight
4. Pray these once new tires stick to the ground
(There was a passenger bus coming down the slight down behind me)

I learned arm on the door frame and listened...... 1001, 1002, 1003 heard and felt bumpy bump 5ft before Mt. Slammed my foot on the gas peddle was barely peeking out my squinted eyes!
Drove a mile up the road Turn car off and I needed the chilly cold air on my wet cheeks!
Years later hearing Carrie underwood song "Jesus take the wheel", I know he was there that day with me!
As for that lady it took me 2hrs, to get back behind that wheel!

When people gripe about the price of the illegal tow not only is it what you stated but the fine is a reminder not to do it again.
Where we live not only do you pay a hefty fine but you have to pay the police department 200.00 to get a release of vehicle slip. Then you have to pay the tow company the fees associated to the tow.

I was at a gas station the other day and I parked next to a handicap spot the handicap sign was on the stores wall and as I waited for my husband I noticed there wasn't a parking spot in front of that sign so I was like nope better move over a spot apparently I parked in the handicap. I wasn't getting towed, thanks to your channel I knew not to park in that spot even though the sign wasn't in front of where I was

Hello all, New subscriber, and new to watching the channel. However, not new to Gatlinburg. I live in NC and have been going to Gatlinburg every year, twice a year since 1986! I feel in a lot of ways I know Gatlinburg and the area better than I know my own town. Someone made a comment about tow trucks in the area and TH-cam and came looking. I am so glad I did. I've been going back and watching videos for three days now. Jeff, I think you are hysterical. I wish you could bottle and sell your self-control and patience. You would have a lifetime buyer here.

Jeff and Kristen, you two are absolute saints to put up with the garbage these people dish out. You're better than I am, that's for sure. I'm 78 years old, and I have NO patience anymore to put up with the crap these people spout. I know they're not criminals, but in a way they are stealing the parking places for those who work in Gatlinburg, and the employees of places like Anakeesta's, Five Guys, and some others! If I'm somewhere and a sign exists (which they do in the places where you go to tow illegal parkers) I guarantee you I would 99 times out of 100 see the sign and would NOT violate someone else's parking space, NO WAY! May God continue to bless you and yours always!
Up by me near Chicago, some of the private lots have tow company signs that list the price of the tow and storage fees if any. That's enough to make people think twice about illegal parking.
The reason that some folks are shocked at the price is some cities require the towing company to publish the price of the tow on the sign, IMHO.
But the price varies depending on what all is involved
@@rogtif88 My city requires the sign to show the cost of the tow and daily storage fees at the impound lot. It would read "Charge $175 + $25 per day storage". Look up Google image of 'Lew Blum Towing'. And the city has a law that illegally parked vehicles cannot be towed off of a private lot without the police issuing a ticket and that means hours of wasted time for tow truck drivers.

I live in Wears Valley.....love to watch you guys....people will park ANYWHERE..I've seen them park in ditches ....on side of a hill....I have even seen them park long ways in-between 2 cars with back end sticking out about 4 feet into the road......in Gatlinburg or PF or Sevierville .....ANYWHERE!

Jeff, you need some street lights at your lot - too dark for you and the people picking up vehicles.
I rent a cabin in the area twice a year and have for several years now, and if there's one piece of advice I can pass to first time visitors it's this: Do not arrive at night if you can at all avoid it. Mountain roads don't have street lights, there are often confusing intersections which are poorly marked if at all, and many times you can't count on your GPS. I stay in the same place all the time so I know the way but it is quite secluded. I won't forget my first time when I passed up a turn and found myself on what looked like a vertical ascent up a loose gravel "road" to nowhere, with nowhere to turn around.
I sure can understand that lady's fear of driving for another minute. Good thing a great dad/son team and that officer were there for her.
So many people that have been into the Smoky mountains don't realize that elevation and switchbacks and narrow roads. They book a cabin and the b&b says sure come on. Then they try to get there and it's absolutely more than they expected

We are locals and we are always telling tourists, especially at our local watering hole, that if they are not paying for parking in Gatlinburg, they will get towed. If you have a thought that maybe it will be safe, forget it. If someone says it is safe, forget them. Just be safe and pay. It is easier and cheaper all the way around. God bless.
You should make a video of the entire process. Going to the tow, complete hook up, calling police to report, drive home, dealing with them on phone, and dealing with them at lot. I know it would be couple hours plus’s long but that’s the point.

Jeff, I'd consider installing a man size gate in the fence so you can get into the yard without being followed. Some of the 'customers' can get quite an attitude. Times are changing and some people are not worth turning your back on.
It's not the 5 miles. It's the $100,000 truck, gas money, maintenance, tires, brakes, equipment, insurance, storage, and on and on. Not to mention sitting around at 11 at night instead of sleeping or hugging your lady.

Love watching you guys!!! I was a paramedic for 15 years here in Kentucky. Spent several years before that working in retail. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that this world is full of some clueless stupid people and unfortunately you can’t fix stupid!!! You guys are always kind and nice to these people, sometimes too nice like waiting for hours after hours for pick ups. And the Apartment Complex mess would drive me insane. I don’t understand why the apartment manager doesn’t paint the apartment numbers on the spots and only allow 2 spots (2 passes) per apartment. They have 4 and 6 people sharing those apartments and the management doesn’t know it because they aren’t on the lease and they take all the spots from other tenants following the rules. It’s a mess!!! Stay safe!!! And hopefully the good understanding people you encounter outweigh the nasty bad ones.

Cost of truck, insurance, training over the years, equipment, time, etc all adds up.
A lot of towing jurisdictions have statutory towing and impound fees, and in those jurisdictions the signs will often have the amount on the sign. For example, something like "towing fees not to exceed $220 and $20 per day".
Never seen that in my life.! Fees differ by what is entailed.

@@martqbd Also since it's a private lot and not one with a tow contract with a specific company the lot owner may call difefrent companies with different prices. The signs you see with amounts are ones that have tow contracts with the lot.
I cannot believe people. You stayed until 11:30 - LONG past any normal service would be available. Yet you go out of your way to get them their car back, and she calls you names. At some point id just start sending them to voicemail and let them pick it up during normal business hours. Good On your for being so available to help these guys.

It's a good thing we know Jeff to be a pretty standup guy. I say that because an unscrupulous person could very easily tow a buddy's car and then just have them call and make a big fuss, name calling, etc just to get views. So it's nice that we know what we see on Everything Auto's channel is actually a real event that took place. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if other towing channels haven't done that. I don't know as I've never watched other towing channels). Jeff's ability to handle irrational people is impressive to say the least. I honestly believe that elementary or Jr high school teachers in maybe sociology class or whatever, should use a few select videos from this channel on how to deal with unreasonable people. Seriously. What do you guys think? Obviously some are way better examples than others but anyone who watches this channel knows exactly what I'm talking about. And yet he's still human, a few times when people act in a manner that is completely uncalled for he might bark back a slight amount, or tell them the price just went up a hundred bucks. Although I'vr never seen him actually follow through on the higher pricing. But in the few cases I have seen him say that it definitely seems to get them to stop their crap. So I would say it's justified and a pretty intelligent technique actually. I especially love that he hands out toys to kids. That's something the world could use a lot more of. Had to get a tow yesterday as someone ran a red light and T-boned my Jeep. Was thinking of you guys as the friendly tow truck driver got my vehicle taken care of. Good news is that it wasn’t a high speed crash and she hit me squarely on the passenger side rear wheel. No body damage to mine at all (hopefully just the rear suspension and wheel)! Not even a scuff on the paint! Her borrowed boyfriend’s Charger is a different story. Jeep 1, Charger $$$$
