    I believe the majority of H-D owners--myself included, are very reasonable and understand warranty limitations when it comes to non H-D parts and tuning, and are willing to assume personal responsibility if there is mechanical failure related to said non H-D parts. The problem in my opinion is the dealerships. For example, my local H-D dealership operates in a very rigid manner. Their stance is that if you install part X and go to Billy Bob's H-D repair then your warranty is automatically null and void; no discussion and no effort in trying and see what the Motor Company has to say. I have no doubt there are a lot of good dealers willing to work with their customers, but I think they are the minority.Thank you, gentlemen. Absolutely great conversation and information!

      I will tell you that if there is an aftermarket tuner on the bike the motor company will do nothing for you. Thank the EPA for that one. They opened the door to limiting warranty when they sued Harley for selling super tuners. Believe me the dealers are not trying to be difficult, they won't get paid.

    I have been running Amsoil in both mine and my wife’s bikes, Amsoil Engine oil, Amsoil Primary oil and Amsoil Transmission oil, I change all 3-holes every 3-4k have never had a problem, 32k on mine 38k on my wife’s, I believe change often and you should have no problems, at least you might catch it early as you can inspect the drain plug for debris. Just my opinion. But the guys talking here are the experts

    I agree 100% my bike is modified, and I know any power train failures are on me. But what bothers me about some dealerships is the attitude they exhibit to customers asking or wanting Non-OEM replacements for things like tires. I have a buddy that wanted his dealership to install Dunlop American Elite tires on his bike and you would not believe the crap he got from his local dealership in Sugar Land TX over using non-OEM Dunlops. I consider them to be an upgrade over the OEM tires and it's all I use I would have walked out and never gone back to that dealership. I see some Dealerhips get it, they offer the aftermarket upgrades for things like tires, and some of them even carry Amsoil or Red Line fluids in their parts departments these days for the customers that want to run that, its those kinds of dealerships that I will do business with.

    I believe Sunco makes H-D oil....why pay more for just the name? As long as Any oil meets the specs use the one you get the best deal on. They charge more for multiple products/parts that are just branded "HD" and therefore quite a bit more expensive. I like Doc Harley and he does not want to bite the hand that feeds him but at the same time truth is truth...that a Lot of aftermarket companies make far superior products than what the factory "produces"

    this is good information to get out there, but still wont help if the dealers are not educated. I know of a dealer that denied warranty for someone b/c they did their own oil changes but could not provide proof of the oil changes but the issue was a bad stator. How can oil changes affect the stator is my question?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct, education is very important. The story you shared, part of the warrenty is the owner will keep the motorcycle in question in good condition and maintained according to Factory Service schedule. The Factory has the right to ask questions and ask for proof when addressing warranty claims. They have requested pictures with us and digital tech information. The owner has the right to call HD Customer Service to review the denied warranty claim…Doc

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a two edge sword. They have moved maintenance to longer times or more mileage. I’m not a fan, like fork oil at 50 instead of 20K services and neck bearing no longer having zert fitting so replacement is mandatory at 100K. I agree it cost to maintain but you did invest a lot of money….Doc

    Doc, in your reading of warranties. Harley Davidson said some key words. " unauthorized parts and unauthorized service " performed on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. H. D. Would determine then if they would warranty the bike. Good and bad aftermarket parts and outside service techs that could cause a problem. This is how I read it. I could be wrong.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary you forgot to read “cause”. You have the choice to install aftermarket parts, have a non Harley-Davidson tech work on your bike….if these choices “caused” an issue, Harley-Davidson company has the rights to evaluate and possibly deny a claim. Please rewatch all 3 parts in our video series. We tried our best….Doc

    Vance and hines used to make a device just like the FP3 that didn't work as a flash device just a real time sensor reader that you could display all types of info.
    If you used a tuner just as a monitoring device would that flag the bike?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson

    I absolutely adore H-D for its roots and for what the talented designers and engineers have always done (all the M8s are awesome IMO). Guys like the both of you are a credit to the MoCo and are what riding is all about. But Doc, if you don't mind one more rant, I think this FTC ruling would be much less of a headache and you'd have far fewer disgruntled customers to deal with if the brainiacs in the office would get the brand's IMAGE back in line with the actual product. Too many customers just don't feel that they're getting a "premium brand" bike when they have to replace their halogen lights, upgrade bog-standard suspension or pay heaps on top for "extras" like cruise control after handing over a well-earned $20K. So I say they need to either step it up on that front and settle for a smaller consumer base, or put their money where their mouth is and lower these inflated prices. I just think this misalignment is what's behind most of the commotion on this topic. Ok rant over ;) I really enjoyed the series and hope to see more - a live stream sounds great, but whatever you cook up is music to me.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would take a whole video to answer. In short a lot has to do with fofilling a customer expectation. Parts are harder to get. Techs coming out of school have no or very little experience with Shovel or Evo. A shop can’t give a owner a reasonable time because of above reasons. Low Country Harley-Davidson has invested in Doc so they can offer Service with the understanding this is not a quick turnaround but a desire to keep the Heritage a live.

    • @TheRoadGlideRider
      @TheRoadGlideRider ปีที่แล้ว

      I have owned and worked on Shovel and EVO motors. Shovelhead has such a loose tolerance they can almost be fixed with chewing gum and bailing wire. EVO is so close to the Shovel, but with tighter tolerances. So if you know Shovel, it makes repairs on EVO so easy. And I still have Factory Service Manuals for both. 🏍💨🏍💨

    • @KevinBaxter

      Hi Tom. Doc sent this over. I have been asked the same question on my channel and it's a good one. Please understand my answer is made with respect and not in attempt to brush you off. When it comes down to it, there are far fewer companies that actually make things than there are brands of things to buy. We all know HD isn't in the oil making business...so they contract it to someone, which is to be expected and perfectly acceptable for any business. Who, is largely irrelevant to me provided it does what it says it will do and it's of quality. It is in HD's best interest to provide an oil that at least meets the minimum standards of which they state and require in their owner's manuals. This leads me to believe that their branded oil meets and possibly exceeds those standards. Since there are no ratings printed, we can at least safely assume it meets their minimum standards. This applies for other branded fluids...they dont state the weight of their fork oils either other than to be standard, heavy, or extra heavy, or their trans specific oils or primary oils. So I look at it like this....if i am doing suspension work that requires a certain weight of oil, or am doing primary or transmission work, and I know what I want the weight to be, I purchase oils that tell me the actual weight so that I know. As for engine oils, if there are ratings that i'm looking for as performance enhancements are made, i would purchase an oil that has and states those ratings or exceeds the minimum factory recommended standards for the application so that I can be certain. In short, we must assume, and i would be confident in saying, the MC is supplying an oil that meets their required standards. We as consumers have a choice...if we want to know the certifications and it makes us feel better actually seeing it on the box, we can purchase an oil that states those standards. I guess they dont print the standards or weights because they dont really have to. They provide it and state that it will work and that its approved. Hope this helps.
