    Scrap, I just want you to know that in the last three years, I've raised both of my baby boys watching you. You were my OG in those late night bottle feedings, and now for building with scrap breakfast. My boys love you and know your intro better than any kids song. I greatly appreciate that you keep your channel kid friendly without cursing, please don't stop, you do great work and you have gotten several channels started and that alone is respectful. Love you brother.

    A solid, stationary ring is going to be naturally unstable; any point that falls a little closer to the planetoid is going to experience more down-force, while the opposite side is going to start experiencing less, meaning that as it falls out of position it's only pulled further out of position.
    You're going to have to spin it at roughly orbital speed to make it do what you're after.

    I'm actually kind of surprised that the ring stayed so stable. With the creation being so large, I thought maybe the gravity would've pulled some video game logic on you and resorted to latching onto the original starting block or something to avoid letting the physics calculations get too complex, but it seems the devs accounted for that
    If you do anything more with this concept in the future, it might be worth using the glow block skin to help the ring stand out more against the backdrop of space (and it would make it look pretty neat, you could even turn it into a massive, orbiting rainbow). And, a couple other people have mentioned it, but it'd be interested to see how the ring behaves with thrusters attached. Perhaps it could even be turned into some sort of planetary defense system, using the last 70 or so blocks to make something like a giant, controllable, orbital space cannon

    The thing is that if the ring is not exactly in the middle, it's gonna pull harder on the closest part. And when it pulls harder the opposite part is going to escape easier and all of that causes a chain reaction that pulls one part closer and pulls the other away. This is what I think happened during the first attempt with the bobbing.

    Some tips from a KSP player. The reason your ring started to wobble, and thus crashed into the planet. Was its wonky up and down scanner motion. Any difference in radius from the planet resulted in a different pull from the planet on different parts of the ring. This resulted in a torquing force that imparted angular velocity onto your ring. Once your ring started twisting, it's polar transit started to precess around the planet. Once that happened, any deviation in altitude resulted in a difference of the force of gravity and thus pulled the ring into the planet.
    Your ring should probably have been spinning around the planet at orbital velocity, that would have created a precession around its orbit instead, and resulted in a ring that sort of hula hooped around the planet instead, assuming construction at a proper orbital angle.

    • @rambysophistry1220
      @rambysophistry1220 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThatGamerPilot Okay. So. Let's think of it this way. When the ring was to the "north" "up" side of the planet, it was not following a proper orbit. It was too far from a track that kept the ring centered on the planet. So it got pulled "down". Well, that downward motion pulled the ring through several orbital paths at different stages of its motion "up" and "down". That resulted in a force, a source of energy of motion, that started to twist the ring "up" and "down" on different parts of the ring. Like taking an onion ring in your hands, and twisting one hand up and the other down. The ring flexes, then breaks. That difference in forces was caused by the ring moving through multiple orbital paths at the same time, and thus having different gravitational forces at different points breaking symmetry,

    • @rambysophistry1220
      @rambysophistry1220 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThatGamerPilot It is also important to remember what an orbit is. An orbit is when you are going so fast that you fall at the same rate the planet is curving away from you. An orbital path is any of those directions that lead to that behavior.

The problem is that he measures in blocks and the length of each is 4, so each pixel in the circle generator corresponds to his measurement of 4, meaning that each step sideways has to happen by leaving a 2 block gap, effectively moving by 4 blocks. I would personally choose to do this and then smooth it out as i see fit instead of multiplying the circle size by 4 to make it represent one block because it'd be much harder to read the image that way.

    The issue lies in how you connect and consider the blocks.
    I noticed but i could be wrong, that when immitating the mc circle generator, you place 2×4s as if they are 2x2s, so when the mc circle generator says 7, 4, 3, 4.
    You place 7 2x4s, 4 2x4s, etc.
    But the mc circle generator uses effectivly only 2×2s, so for 7 it would be 3 2×4s and a 2x2. To get the same lenght.
    Also cant you connect them litteraly the exact same way as the circle generator from underneath? Cuz thats the other math issue, if your connecting them differently you need wayy different math.
    But non of that really matters at grand scale like this.
    Your eyes trick you to see the circle, so just follow the generator to the T and it works...
    I use mc circle generators for many thing non minecraft related. They are super handy but you do have to follow them very litteraly. Otherwise the math is allways of.

      Because he is using 2x4's, he's effectually building an oval with twice the radius in one direction, and the correct length in the other. 2x4's are twice as long as 2x2's, so any circle built with 2x4's instead of 2x2's will end up as an oval that is always twice as long in one dimension as the other. Its the ratio of the block dimensions that do this, 2:1 instead of 1:1. The math here is complex to wrap your head around, but easy once you can envision it. This principle works almost everywhere, with 3x1's, 4x1's, heck, even 10x1's will do exactly the same thing, an oval 10 times longer than it is wide.

    With the circle generator, it is assuming every block step is 1 and every indent is 1. Assume that each rectangle is 4×8 studs. When you're building with a rectangle, every step of 1 is only indenting 0.5. And further, since you indented only half of the rectangle, you're only going 0.25 in. This is going to give you a circle that's literally 4x bigger than you intended. You can remedy this by following the same circle generator shape, but have your indents start with half the rectangle length tucked on the inside edge of the last block. So not at the end of the block, but rather 4 studs backwards against the inside edge. This should give the outer edge of the circle all 4 studs on an indent. Once you get to the halfway point of the curve, you just rotate the block 90° and mirror what you built. I hope this helps.

    For making the circle I would have made a radius like you did as a reference but made it rotate from the center so you can build a little then rotate a few degrees and build out to the new position of the end point. The end of the reference radius is always on the perfect circle and you just have to build a little bit at a time to stay as close as you can. Repeat that enough times and you have enough to copy/paste like you did

  • @anteshell
    @anteshell 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    14:47 Unless the ring is EXACTLY PERFECTLY balanced around the center of the gravitational pull, it is affected by gravity unbalanced and will eventually crash into the planet. The more unbalanced, the faster this will happen. And there is nothing you can do to measure the exact center nor even precisely place the ring in the center.
    You could add distance sensors on four sides to fire up thrusters away from the planet and those would keep it from crashing. Then another set of thrusters to make it spin around to create gyroscopic effect to make the job even easier. But I have no idea how the game would even handle such large creations with thrusters. I'd love to see you make another take on this to have it spinning and auto-correcting for against crashing.

    Can you do a community series on titan,Saturn’s largest moon?
    I suggest you do it as a sequel to the mars series in search of where the Martians who built bases on mars.
    You can do more research on its somewhat earth like conditions.The reason for it being on Titan is because titan has a subsurface water ocean,a active methane cycle and a large collection of lakes,seas and rivers of hydrocarbons such as methane. Day two of saying this.

  • @thesteamengineer442

    The ring would crash into the planet with even the slightest of misalignment due to gravity being stronger closer to the planet, so the more misaligned it is, the stronger gravity tries to misalign it even more. It wouldn't be in a stable position naturally.

    Scrapman, the reason why the circle generator didn't work, is that it was measuring in squares. If you want it to work, you have to count the attatchmentpoints on the blocks, not the blocks themselves (in this case 88 blocks * 3 attatchmentpoints in length = 264)

  • @Nozerone
    @Nozerone 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The circle generator is based on using squares. If using rectangles, I probably would have generated a circle half the size I needed, considering that each step down with the rectangles is half a step of what a square would do. Meaning that a circle built out of rectangles would end up being twice as big if using measurements based on a square.
    So the rectangle has 4 points, and a square would have 8. If calculating a circle for a square that has 8 points, you would end up making a circle that is twice as big if you followed the layout with rectangles that only have 4 points.

  • @Yesenn
    @Yesenn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You could use the circle generator too. The first one could've worked. You just needrd to count one of the 2x4 pieces as "2 blocks"
    A 2x2x2 piece would be a single "block"
    So 9 blocks would be 4 parts, (essentially being 8 blocks) and one small part (being the 9th block)

    To do like a shell cover what you could do is build 1/4th of it and then you and 3 friends fly them in with space crafts and meet up at the asteroid center and either magnet or attach block the pieces together then using break away blocks to disconnect the hauling scapecrafts away or use magnets to get the build there in position and use other magnets tied to a different keybind to get them all to stick. Idk ideas

    I have observed that when making circles with box, you can use site that half each time so you’d go for example 16 blocks and then you go in one block and then eight blocks and etc. The only problem is according to the size of yourself circle you’d have to start with a different number and I don’t know how to get that number. I’m guessing you could just get a quarter of the radius

    Gotta make it rotate and if you get it to be stable, make it go as fast as you can! Or even encapsulate it? I would try but I don’t have mods or know how to set that up so I would have to build multiple different builds and connect them outside the build mode an that just seems impractical on the space map. I believe you could pull it off and make it look crazy
